Rebeca took us to the source of the tremors.
And the vision was horrible: it was a giant golem! Its clay-coloured body was robust and it was almost the height of the spacious and high hall it was in. Its eyes were two cavities in its head, from which a golden light came out, indicating that it was in activity.
However, it was not necessary to see its eyes to realize it wasn't inactive.
The golem was attacking a bloody swordsman.
Scattered on the floor, there were puddles of blood, coming from the boy. Because of his blond hair - and since there were only eight students here – I could tell swordsman was Gregório.
Contrary to his more proud posture, Gregório was very vulnerable at that moment. It didn’t matter he was standing, he probably couldn't dodge anymore and eventually he would lose his strength completely.
He had become an easy victim for the golem.
Advancing its fist towards the boy, the golem punched Gregório, making him fly back as if he were a bag of potatoes and fell to the ground, unconscious.
“Gregório!,” Erina shouted, but it was obvious that he wouldn't answer her.
With heavy steps, the golem approached the unconscious Gregório with the intention of ending its attack.
Without delay, Erina put her palms together and prayed:
“Ysabel, please give me strength to rescue him!”
Taken by a determination, Erina ran to Gregório and, the moment the golem was about to give his final blow to the boy, its fist collided against the blade of Erina's sword, surprisingly making the golem stagger backwards.
With Gregório behind her, under her protection, Erina looked like his knight in shining armour.
Erina took advantage of the destabilization of the golem and advanced, managing to hit it enough to left it a cut.
At the same time, Elias ran to one of the sides of the golem and passed directly through it, being able to see what was behind the golem.
“Hey!,” Elias shouted. “There's a gate here! And it’s huge!”
His announcement confirmed my suspicion: that golem was the final boss. We had no choice but to defeat him.
“I’ll take care of Gregório,” I announced looking at the others. “Can you take care of the golem until then?”
“It's six against one. We can handle it!,” Rebeca put her hand on my shoulder and shook me to reassure me. “Go do your thing.”
While Lynette and Ozul gave me cover, I went to Gregório and took him to a distant corner of the battle. I knew that one of the recommendations of first aid is not to take the patient out of place, for the risk of causing a fracture or worsening an existing one, until help arrives, but technically the help was me and, if there was any fracture, I could heal it.
Whenever a healer is busy with an injured person, they must have someone nearby to act as a bodyguard. In my case, Ozul stayed with me.
I could hear the fighting noises filling the environment, but I couldn't see the fight itself. At that moment, my focus was Gregório.
Thanks to magic, I could identify the injuries he had. In addition to the obvious cuts that made him bleed, he had bone fractures caused by impacts and injured organs!
Healing Gregory would be more laborious than I imagined, so I couldn't waste time.
I began the healing process, focusing a good part of my mana on bringing Gregório’s body to its functional state. Sometimes, I listened to the shots of Ozul's gun, a sign that the golem had considered attacking me, which made me grateful to have Ozul around.
It was tiring, but, little by little, Gregório's body returned to its good conditions. The next step would be to clean the blood, but this was easily solved with a simple cleaning spell. Without the serious injuries and blood, Gregório looked more like a sleeping beauty than a wounded swordsman.
“Gregório?,” I patted his cheek. “Hey, Gregório?”
I kept calling him until I saw his eyelids move, first they joined a little more and then they made an effort to separate, and slowly Gregory opened his eyes.
Looking somewhat bewildered, Gregório looked in all possible directions until he saw me, appearing to be more confused. He was probably wondering why he was lying on the floor and I was sitting next to him.
Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.
“That golem gave you the biggest beating and almost killed you!,” I promptly explained. “But don't worry, because I fixed you!”
He sat down and looked at his own body, checking that there was no wound present, and then pressed the points where he had been hit, but did not feel any pain. Seeing his fascination with my healing filled me with pride.
“You can admire my work later, but now...”
I cast two spells on Gregório. More specifically, one to increase speed and another to increase resistance.
“What are you doing?,” He questioned me.
“A temporary buff in you,” I got up from the ground. “To get out of here we need to defeat that golem, so lets it our everything!”
I reached out to Gregório who, to my surprise, accepted my help to get up without giving me a scorned look!
Ozul approached Gregório and extended his swords he had collected before staying with me. However, before returning the weapons, Ozul smiled in an ironic way.
“And this time, try to stay alive,” he commented sarcastically.
Gregório just rolled his eyes and took his swords back.
After Gregório returned to the battlefield, I went to Ozul, touched his shoulder and thanked him for protecting me. Ozul cleared his throat a little, but managed to say a "you're welcome!"
With my healing work completed, I was able to redirect my focus to the fight itself. Positioning myself behind Ozul, I looked at the conditions of our group. There were eight of us, so we had a good number.
Both Rebeca and Erina used heavy weapons, which made them slow, but they were able to cause a lot of damage in compensation.
Lynette and Ozul were not good at melee attack, but their distance attack was great, allowing them to hurt the enemy from a safe distance.
Elias and Gregório were the most agile. Elias was able to dodge and jump from the golem's attacks and on top of that he was able to attack during the jump. Gregório, on the other hand, was better running and, thanks to my spell, he was unstoppable.
Angelo was the most balanced of the team. There was no attribute in it that stood out, but there was also no deficient attribute.
Based on what I could see, I already had an idea of which support spells to use: for Rebeca and Erina, I increased their resistance to physical blows; For Ozul and Lynette, I increased their accuracy; For Elias, I increased his physical attack; and for Angelo, I increased the magical damage he could cause, since our physical damage capacity was already high enough.
Erina and Rebeca were responsible for damaging the golem's fists. If they could dodge the punches, they took the opportunity and attacked its hands. Otherwise, they used their heavy weapons to block their punches.
With their shots, Lynette and Ozul aimed at the joints of the upper limbs of the golem - wrists, elbows and shoulders. With the joints injured, hitting with the fists became increasingly difficult for the golem, who was its best attack.
Gregório was responsible for the creature's lower limbs. His cuts with his swords were not as strong as Erina's, but his speed allowed him to make several cuts, which when added, compensated a lot.
Due to his agility and jumps, Elias focused on attacking the golem's torso and head. He could circle the creature easily, dodging its fists as if it were nothing, and because of that he could harm it both from the front and from the back.
Finally, Angelo focused on using magic against the golem, aiming his staff-spear at a weak point of the golem and casting an offensive spell, similar to blue light beams. I was afraid that, in the midst of four people attacking at close range, he would have problems attacking the golem without hitting his teammates, but he did very well. In addition, he conjured vineyards to hold the golem in place, which facilitated the attack.
The fight was the way I had previously suggested: it would be difficult to defeat the final boss alone, but easier in a group.
With each one doing their part, the golem soon lost the amplitude of its movements and the strength of its blows. With its attack weakened, the creature was little by little dominated and its body was being damaged until, without no longer the ability to stand, the golem fell.
Even fallen, the golem squirmed, swinging its limbs in the hope of hitting us, but it didn't help. It was at our mercy and we just had to finish it.
Erina went to the golem’s torso and, without mercy, struck her sword into its chest. The creature let out a roar of pain so strong that it made the walls tremble. Finally, Rebeca went to the golem's head, lifted her hammer and hit it with all her strength against its face.
After the blow to the head, the golden light that came out of the golem's eyes went out, leaving only two dark and deep cavities, and the creature had stopped moving completely.
We face the still creature with panting breath and a bit incredulous. That was the decree of our victory!
“WE DID IT!!!”
It was the scream that came out of our throats.
We had been possessed by a wave of euphoria. There were jumps, screams of joy, hands up and even hugs between those who were intimate. Elias hugged Angelo while Rebeca raised one arm up in celebration and placed the other around Lynette's shoulders, who clapped happily for the victory. I hugged Erina and then Ozul, who seemed to have been taken by surprise by my action. Erina even tried to hug Gregório, but she couldn't, however, in compensation, she could pat his shoulder.
At that moment, we were comrades. It didn't matter what opinions we could have of each other, as long as the euphoria lasted, we were on an equal footing.
When we calmed down, I looked at the others and saw that they had some scratches and bruises. I still needed to perform my support role in the post-fight, so I went to each one and healed them.
We hadn't left untouched but, compared to how Gregório was when he fought the golem alone, we did better.
I looked at the end of the hall. A huge gate, as Elias had said. I prayed that that was really the way out and not a bad taste trap that Mr. Reignia would have done it.
The others also looked at the gate. We had the same thought: get out of there right away.
We went together to the gate to open it. Fortunately, it wasn't locked. A handle turn and a push were enough and it was already open.
Crossing the gate, we entered a bright room that I didn't recognize. Its walls and floor were different from those of the dungeons. However, its doors were familiar. They were the same doors of the shed we had entered! We managed to get out of the dungeon!
“Very well.”
A voice suddenly sounded. We turned our heads to the left and saw who was the one who had spoken. It was Hugo Reignia. Accompanying him was my brother John right next to him, still with that serious expression on his face.
Hugo and John stared at us for a few seconds that seemed more like minutes and I swallowed dryly, thinking that there would still be another challenge, but it was not the case.
The two began to clap their hands for us.
“The test has been completed,” Hugo announced. “My sincere congratulations.”
