Chapter 1: A Night with the Moonlight Blossom

Chapter 1: A Night with the Moonlight Blossom

A lone tree stood at the top of the cliff. Its large base spanned tens of feet, but its height only went as far as twenty feet high. Instead, the peculiar tree’s top which was flat with its branches moving out rather up spanned a couple hundred feet. Purple flowers sparkled under the moonlight.

Small wisps of steam rose up from the bottom, on the side facing the dark blue lake. A trail of blood made its way to a single figure laying with his bare back against the large tree. He sat there staring at the great full moon. His shoulder length snow-white hair glowed under the gaze of the moon.

“The Moonlight Blossom, a single tree that appears for only a single person every thousand years or so under a Super Moon. Nothing’s known about the tree except for its exceptional beauty and unknown ability. Although the description in the books don’t do it enough justice,” he thought to himself before coughing up blood. Even with the pain, there was a hint of a smile on his face.

With the silent trance broken, he groaned and placed his hand over five long gashes through his abdomen. Steam rose up from the wounds all over his body, as they very slowly healed. Blood seeped out from the spaces of his fingers, but that wasn’t what was killing him and he knew it.

Once again, he coughed up blood as he continued to find difficulty breathing. His crushed organs made it too painful for him to move around at all. He held no sense of urgency, instead he tried to enjoy the view for as long as he could.

The view calmed his thoughts and soothed his broken soul. The hatred he held towards everything and everyone seemed to fade away as well. Countless memories that surged through his mind were pushed away so that he could appreciate the scenery that appeared before him.

Feeling tired, he decided he would close his eyes for a brief moment. He wanted to enjoy this moment for longer but he wanted to let his eyes take a brief rest first.

A strong gust blew through the tree, and seemed to pull all of the flowers’ petals creating a shining wave. They flew towards the glittering lake and scattered atop its surface like an incandescent rain of purple.

With a smile, he closed his eyes.
