The Guardian
Chapter 4: Life
The worms had burrowed into the cave from underground. Thousands of worms called larvaes swarmed over the pack of wolves. The wolves instantly dissolved until there was not even bone left.
Devour, eat, devour, eat, devour, eat. Find more prey. Multiply.
In the cave one of the larvae morphed into the shape of an octopus, the hatchery. The morphing process took couple of hours to take, but when it finally finished, more larvaes was being birthed into existence. I viewed into the hole the larvae created and followed its path, countless larvaes crawled down into the cave, and I continued down this path until I reached the original pit. There was over hundreds of hatcheries that birthed larvaes every hour. Millions of larves continued to dig in every direction within the mountains.
I noticed my conscientious wane over controlling millions of larvaes, I needed help micromanaging all these beings. This led me to create a special unit that I called the Arcmind. This was the first time I have ever taken DNA from a different species and add it to the swarm. The DNA taken resembled a slime but most of its body was floating in the air.
The Arcmind was large. It was way large than my larvaes, and even rest of the creatures I encountered in the mountains. The closest was the wolf but it still dwarfed in comparison. The same carapace covered its body that covered most of my larvaes, the carapace was more brittle to reduce the weight in order to float in the air. The Arcmind was oval in shape, and there was multi legged for crawling on the ground, and I thought it resembled a centipede.
In the original pit I ordered a few of the larvaes to morph into the Arcminds and immediately I could feel my concentration sharpen. The load reduced thanks to help.
I returned to the cave, and watched the sunlight hit my larvaes carapace. We had access to the outside world.

Letto, Lydia and Rain entered Coldwind and turned in the quest for the goblins extermination. After which they rested at an inn close by the entrance.
“Man that was a tough day today,” Letto smiled.
“Hn,” Rain nodded.
Letto laughed and slapped Rain's back.
“Ah caamon, lighten up and enjoy a mead,”
“I hope tomorrow there isn't anymore goblin extermination quest. We been doing nothing but them all this time. I'm even starting to have dreams about them,” Lydia shivered.
“Ah It's not bad. At least its honest money for an honest day,” Letto grinned.
Rain stood up. “I'm going to bed, I'll see you tomorrow,” he lifted the scarf around his neck higher to hide his face.
Letto and Lydia nodded and continued to chat with each other in the tavern portion of the inn. Rain went upstair to his room. Once there he unequiped his daggers and cloak he wore around himself. Underneath was leather armour that was constantly patched up and torn. He took that off and smiled fondly at the armour. It was his father's when he was an adventurer before he settled down. It was starting to be beyond repair, and he thought once he had enough money he'll buy new armour. He hopefully thought enough for the popular chainmail adventurers was buying.

Rain closed his eyes and gave a silent prayer. A prayer for the hunter's instinct he had dubbed it. In the beginning he thought it was all rubbish, but the more time in the field he learned to tell when it was calling him. It felt like an itch at the back of his mind when he doesn't go the right way, or a swell of water when he does. Sometimes there was other feeling that accompanied it but it depended on the situation.
He didn't pray to it at first, but it felt right when he first started and then he kept at it. Of course Letto laughed at him, and Lydia just smiled when they found out. After he was finished he went to bed to get a goodnights rest.
In the morning Rain met up with Letto and Lydia at the inn's entrance after breakfast and they went to the adventure's guild. Once there they met lots of adventurers trying to get the best quests there was, Letto groaned.
“I bet there's only goblin quests now,”
“And that's why I told you we should've came earlier, but no, you had to have breakfast first, we could've had breakfast after,” Lydia replied.
“Hey! A day doesn't start until you have breakfast!”
Rain ignored them and walked up to the mission board. They were right about one thing. All that was left was goblin extermination quests. He sighed and grabbed one off the wall and walked up to the reception desk.
“We'll be taking this,” he stated.
Rain, Letto, and Lydia left Coldwind and walked by the beach. In the mission statement it said that a fisherman's hut was being harassed by goblin that needed to be exterminated. It was close to the harbour out of the village but was still a ways walk out.
When they arrived, they was immediately attacked by a group of goblins, but they quickly cut them down easily.
Letto roared and charged at the dancing goblin, he easily took it down with a swing of his sword. Rain was busy scouting ahead, he could see the forest from the beach, and whatever was there was giving him a bad feeling. They quickly took out the remaining goblins, and gathered up any loot they had.
“Three copper pieces, and one rusted axe,” Letto sighed. Lydia noticed Rain's continuous look over his shoulder at the forest, and asked about it.
“What is it?”
Rain frowned.
“I'm not sure, but something giving me bad vibes from there. I never felt it this intense before.”
Most of the time his instinct was right, and this time it was no exception. A large monster crawled out of the bushes. Lydia gasped when she saw what that monster was. Letto gripped his sword tighter in his hands, sweat rolling down his forehead. Rain remained calm, and prepared himself for a tough battle.
The monster's sharp canine glinted in the sun, its beady eyes sharply on its prey, its fur was brown in colour, and its paw contained razor sharp claws. Rain gulped when the monster growled. He closed his eyes and silently prayed to the hunter's instinct, a wave of strength surge through his body from the back of his mind.
This was a monster that was tough to kill. It's fur was tough as iron. He could see this creature had been through numerous battles, many scars align his face and body, arrows struck from his back, and even a small hatchet.
This was a hind bear.
Rain looked at Letto and Lydia, his eyes begging them to flee while he distracted it, but Letto gripped his sword even tighter that his fists turned white. Lydia knocked an arrow and was aiming at the monster. Rain carefully slid his hands into his cloak and tightly held his throwing knives.
The hind bear roared and charge at them. This started their battle for survival. Silver lining, they were not fighting against goblins.
