Hey everyone, hope you're doing well.
I wanted to let you all know that I am still working on this story, but it has consistently become a lot bigger than I initially planned. To that end, I won't be releasing individual chapters here any longer as it's too impractical to focus on one chapter at a time and get it polished, while still making sure everything works well overall. I've found myself writing ahead, then revising behind, taking a more holistic approach, and unfortunately that doesn't work well with a site like this. I always planned for this to be a published book, and focusing on one chapter at a time really helped me to get started and build discipline and routine, but it has become unwieldy now, and the story has shifted into a narrative style that doesn't lend itself to a chapter-a-week serial format.
I will keep posting updates here now and then, but it will be solely about progress, and once everything is done I'll let you all know how to access the finished book if you're interested. I am planning to launch it on KU/Amazon as an eBook, and will also look into making a nice physical edition at some point.
Reading on Amazon or a pirate site? This novel is from Royal Road. Support the author by reading it there.
Anyway, I just wanted to be upfront and let you know what's happening. The story is not dead, it's just going to be released all at once now and will be a lot better for it. I'll still leave all the current chapters up, as a 'trailer' I suppose, even though things will change slightly (or a lot) between these and the finished book.
As for current progress, I've just gone over 100,000 words now, and expect another 40,000 or so will be needed. In terms of a timeline, these have gotten away from me in the past, but it'll likely be at least mid-next year when I finish the first draft (hopefully sooner, but let's expect the worst and hope for the best), and then I'll still need to edit it and so on.
Alright, that's it. Thanks for your time! I hope you'll stick around, as I think the finished book will be quite something, but no hard feelings if otherwise.
- Mark.
