In a dark space, Maximus found himself floating around aimlessly, he looked at the words in front of him in a daze,

Seeing the game-like screen in front of him, Maximus frowned. It did not look like he was dreaming. His meeting with the Grey Fog still left a deep impression on him.

He then looked at the screen carefully and the first thing he noticed was his Race,

'Base Human?'

Maximus focused on it and surprisingly there was an explanation.

Base Human: The most primitive form of the Human race. The Human race is known as one of the most adaptable and numerous amongst the myriad races of the multiverse, having one of the most diverse evolutionary paths. Stat bonus per level: +1 to all stats, +1 free stat point.

'Sigh... although being called primitive does not sit well with me, I did see a lot of powerful races in the mission list' Maximus thought. 'But still, it's good to know that I can evolve.'

He then tried to get more details but everything except for Race did not have a description. All his stats were 10 which he thought was decent, or this had something to do with his new body.

He could feel that his body was different than before. He did not look malnourished anymore and even gained some muscles, he felt like he was reborn and liked the feeling of strength

'Is this the gift the grey fog talked about?' Maximus thought

He was a bit worried before, but with his newfound strength, he gained a bit of confidence. If he had to fight those thugs again he would surely win.

His HP was 400 which he had no idea of how it was calculated, it could be 40 times Vitality or something else, his MP being 100 was probably his Intelligence times 10.

'

He would have to slowly explore all his stats.

He then focused on his only skill,

[Inspect: Able to inspect and gather basic information on any object or creature you focus on.]

'Hmm.. a decent skill, I think I will be using this one a lot' Maximus thought

Suddenly, there was a blinding light forcing Maximus to close his eyes, when he opened his eyes he was greeted by a bustling scene.

There were people everywhere, shouting out names, some had stalls up and were selling what looked like medieval weapons, swords, Axes, Bow, Armor you name it. Maximus had never seen anything like this before.

Suddenly,

Ding!

[You have arrived in Stone Village]

"Stone Village..."

Although he had no idea where he was his expression did not change and he started observing his surroundings,

He looked behind and saw that there was a huge white pillar made of light and people walking out of it, some were injured while some wore happy expressions. Maximus did not stand there for long and started walking towards the stalls

On his way, he noticed that the people wore medieval-style clothes, some wore armor looking ready to go on an adventure and some looked like locals wearing tattered clothes, he observed his clothes and noticed he was wearing similar clothes. A white tattered T-shirt and leather pants, the material was rough and something Maximus wasn't used to.

Nobody seemed to recognize him which was good, he had no time to deal with others things, he wanted to first gather as much information as possible.

He used Inspect on one of the guys who was wearing Armor,

Level: 3

Race: Base Human

Class: None

Words floated on top of the man and Maximus quickly understood.

'Level 3? even a random guy is level 3 I really need to level up somehow'

After some time he got a general understanding of the situation,

The people wearing Armor were called Adventurers by the locals and their Levels vary between Level 2-Level 5.

He had not seen anyone stronger yet, and the locals were all Level 1.

'Now, if the system works like that of a game's then from what I heard from the Adventurers, there are wild animals around the Village and I would have to hunt them down in order to level up.'

He checked his pant pocket and surprisingly found some coins inside, they looked to be made from bronze. He immediately used Inspect

[Bronze coin: The Lowest Form of currency used in the Eastern Continent]

'Eastern Continent?'

Another piece of information that Maximus noted, he then counted the coins and found 21 bronze coins in total,

'With these, I can barely buy a sword'

He knew the prices of a decent sword from his investigation, just as he was about to head to a stall, he noticed a large crowd forming, curious about whats going on, he walked towards the scene,

When he reached the scene he was surprised by seeing stones being laid on the floor, after some time a pot-bellied man wearing merchant clothes came forward and smile at the crowd,

"Everyone, the Stones you see are no ordinary stones, they are the Stone Village specialty, Fortune Stones!" the claimed with pride. He then went on in an excited manner

"The fortune stones are a gift of God only found in the treacherous Stone Mountain region, by breaking them you can find treasures beyond your imagination! You will never find Fortune Stones anywhere cheaper, come one come all..."

Maximus understood immediately,

'Stone gambling huh?' Maximus thought

He did not have any interest in gambling, just as he was thinking of leaving, an idea struck him, he then used Inspect on the Merchant

Level: 9

Race: Base Human

Class: None

Maximus's eyes widened into circles, this was the highest level he had seen.

'To think this pot-bellied guy was so strong!' Maximus thought

But then he quickly calmed down, the strength of the merchant did not matter in his plan.

He quickly used Inspect on the Stone,

[Ordinary Stone: A worthless stone]

"Huh?"

Maximus narrowed his eyes,

'is he a scammer?' Maximus thought

He then checked the rest of the stones and realized that most of them were junk and only a few were real.

[Fortune Stone: A stone that is of little value]

The few stones that had something in them were deemed to be worthless by his skill.

Just as he was starting to get disappointed,

[Thousand year Fortune Stone: A Fortune stone that survived more than 1000 years. It contains a valuable treasure]

Maximus had to force himself to not shout,

'Jackpot!'
