4 - Fediluv’s Vision (Part 2)

The wind picked up speed, whipping up dust from the ground. The trees swayed violently, branches cracking as their leaves whipped wildly about in the gale. Thunder cracked and rolled ominously.

Morgantus stood up as he grabbed hold of Fediluv to keep her steady. He stared wide-eyed at the devastation around them as he watched the storm grow stronger and more violent.

"What is this? Is the world ending?", he whispered to himself with a fearful look in his eyes. Lightning flashed brightly across the horizon, illuminating everything in its path.

He turned around to try and see the academy gates, which were usually located in a corner of the school grounds. They were nowhere near there anymore; they were simply gone.

The walls that surrounded the academy were also destroyed, leaving only piles of rubble and broken stones scattered about in a circle.

A massive hole in the centre of the campus was left behind, leading to a large crater.

The academy itself had been reduced to ashes, with barely any remains remaining of the buildings and other structures within it. Only two small towers remained standing, one to each side of the main building's entrance.

Morgantus looked around, confused at what was going on. "Where are we? Why did the academy just disappear?"

Fediluv trembled uncontrollably, clinging to Morgantus for comfort.

"I don't know, but it feels like someone or something has taken us here.", she said.

"Taken us? Took us to where? Where is everyone?", Morgantus asked as he looked around in bewilderment.

"Somewhere else.", Fediluv answered as she pulled away from Morgantus and turned towards him to face him.

"What do you mean 'somewhere else? Somewhere else than where we were? The past? The future?", Morgantus asked as he looked around at the devastated landscape surrounding them.

Fediluv shook her head, a grave expression etched onto her features, "No. Not the past, not the future. Just... somewhere else."

Morgantus stared at her in disbelief as he watched her intently and waited patiently to hear more from her. He noticed that she had grown pale and sickly looking, with dark circles under her eyes.

Fediluv appeared weak as if all of the strength had been drained out of her body.

"Fediluv, what's going on?" Morgantus asked her worriedly as he placed a hand gently upon her forehead to check on her.

"I have no idea. All I know is that it's not the present and it doesn't feel like it's the past.", she sighed.

"But what does that even mean?" Morgantus questioned, still puzzled at the situation.

"It's something terrible," Fediluv replied solemnly as she wiped away her tears with her sleeve. "Something will happen. Something bad."

"Something bad?" Morgantus asked, his brow furrowing as he thought carefully about what Fediluv meant.

"Yes." She nodded, "Don't you feel it too? Something really, really bad."

Morgantus looked at Fediluv and saw that she was staring upwards as if something were about to come crashing down from the skies.

He turned to look at the sky as well, curious as to what she was talking about but as he looked up, the thunder and rain abruptly stopped.

The sun shone brightly in the clear blue sky again, and the weather was calm. There were hardly any clouds in the sky, and the few wispy ones seemed to float lazily through the air without making much noise at all.

As he looked down again, the wall that had previously vanished had come back again. He looked around, seeing that they were once again in a familiar and undestroyed part of the academy grounds.

Morgantus let out a sigh of relief and smiled to Fediluv, glad that the nightmarish event was over.

"It's gone.", Morgantus told her in a reassuring tone as he took her by the shoulders to make sure that she would stay steady.

"We're back now, so you don't need to worry anymore. Let's go tell the headmaster about the vision we had."

"You think he'll believe us? That this is real?" Fediluv asked as she walked beside Morgantus with her head bowed.

"I don't want to get banished from Teckleville for being crazy.", she continued.

Morgantus chuckled and shrugged his shoulders, "I guess we'll find out."

They entered the academy gate and headed straight to the headmaster's office. As soon as they knocked on the door, they heard a loud voice coming from inside it.

"Who is knocking so rudely on my door in the middle of the day?!", an angry voice shouted.

Morgantus opened the door to see headmaster Rekin standing before his desk, glaring at them angrily with arms folded across his chest and eyes narrowed as if ready to strike whoever dared disturb him.

The room was filled with bookshelves full of dusty old texts on magic, along with a long table covered in papers and scrolls piled high.

A pair of windows were open at either end of the room, letting in a cool breeze that carried the scent of flowers into the room.

For a moment, Morgantus forgot about what they were supposed to be doing, but a solemn-looking Fediluv instantly brought him back from his daze.

"Headmaster Rekin, sir!", she called out to the headmaster as she ran over and quickly kneeled in front of him.

"Sir, I have seen something. We have both witnessed some kind of vision while standing outside the academy."

Rekin frowned, but then his gaze softened and he gave Fediluv a warm smile. His stern demeanour vanished when he saw the frightened girl before him.

"Ah! It's you, little elf! You must've been having a nightmare! Did you have a dream about a giant monster attacking the city? Or maybe one of those flying dragons of yours?", he joked as he patted her head.

"No, Headmaster!" Fediluv replied in a trembling voice as she stood up and faced the man. "I'm afraid that wasn't it all..."
