Ladon... Why would the gods send one of their most strongest creations here when they should've used it in the war. Strange... I don't think the Fafnir should tackle something of this magnitude, just yet, or should he? It'll be a gamble. Ladon is a something that should not be trifled with simply just because it is a serpent.
Even I might have difficulty trying to kill it. A sword drenched in Soliferruns blood. It might just work.
"Very well I'll do it."
Gathar stands. "Please follow me. I shall show you the incandescent."
Behind Gathars throne there lies another golden gate. He gestures for some of his tribesmen to open it. "Blood taken from Soliferrun is said to be blood from the sun itself. Your abilities will be enhanced making you stronger both in body and mind. You will see what I mean."
We head inside the passageway and this time it's well sealed, it descends instead of just going forward. Until we reach a giant chasm where a staircase going down can be seen in the middle of the room.
We descend accompanied by the Kaali tribesmen once again down the golden stairs until we reach yet another golden door but this one displays more grandeur the rest.
Gathar faces us. "Behind here lies the blade aforementioned, the incandescent. The blade has gained life from the son gods blood, thus its power became uncontrollable. Only the rightful wielder can calm its power. Soliferrun or our savior."
Gathar nods to his men and they position themselves by the gates, ready to open it when given the order.
"Fafnir please stand in front of the gate and be ready to take the sword by the hilt, for you might be the only one besides Soliferrun that can calm the power this sword possess."
With Gathars command I prepare myself for the worst. If they say that it truly has power even a fraction of what a God has, would I be able to handle such power or will it overpower me instead.
I shake my head removing all signs of doubt. I'm already here, no time to hesitate. I clench my hands tightly and nod to Gathar.
It opens. And as it does, tremors begin to become apparent, shaking the entire chamber that we are in now. From that small crevice that opened up from the golden gate a strong beam of light appears from inside. The strength is massive and the heat, scorching.
It burns me as if your body is being set aflame. "Damn it! such power just from the light it emits." I cover my eyes with my arms, turning my back against the light.
I hear a shout from behind me. "Agis! Boon of the gods defend me." It's Samael, and he's using his power once again.
I don't feel the heat as much anymore, but it still could be felt. Samael shouts at me. "Hurry! I don't want to keep using this for a long period of time."
With a split second reaction I run for the hilt of the sword, the strength of the scorching heat becoming stronger each step of the way.
I finally grab the hilt impaled on a stone tablet. It doesn't come off easily as I was hoping the I could take it and run. The heat is slightly burning me once more similar to when I first entered the chamber.
I use both my arms and position them to the two sides of the swords' guard, pulling the sword up using my legs to improve my pull strength. It budges.
I pull it slightly after it slides off the stone tablet, holding it upwards where the light shines so much brighter.
As I wield it, I think of weakening the blinding light of the sword and to my surprise it does. "Such power from a sword merely bathed in the blood of a god."
I exit the chamber where i am greeted by Samael and a surprised group of Kaali tribesmen. Gathar speaks without a moments notice. "It is truly you, just as the great seer le'ato prophesized."
They bow on one knee. "I shall ask once again. Please save our people from eradication. we the Kaali will be forever in your debt. But of course we shall help you in battle."
We made haste in order to discuss more about the beast and to formulate our plan of attack. I have little to no experience in fighting with groups, but this shall be a test for me.
The Kaali, Samael and I gather in a wooden hut suspended on a tree branch. There a skilled group of Kaali tribesmen along with Gathar, their leader discusses some details that have not been said.
"The serpent Ladon is a massive monster, it's width the size of the trees here in the forest of wonders. It slithers around trees at breakneck speed as if this is his natural environment."
"The scales are stronger than gold, we have only given the serpent minor wounds as one needs to cut with the sword at a great speed and strength."
"It is part salamander or a dragon. Truth be told, at first we were lucky that they sent a serpent instead of a dragon. Against a dragon, not even the gods can defeat one alone since they are creatures of their own right. Gods by birth one might say."
"Ladon is a being with a form of a snake. It's scales can camouflage itself depending on its environment. It exhales toxic fumes that are proven to be fatal for us. Inhale it and you are sure to die. That's just how much of a monstrous being Ladon is. Fortunately it is just a shadow of its former glory now for it too had its fair share of wounds and scars from the war."
Gathar stands. "That is all that we have about it. It might still have some secrets, and I believe that it is merely toying with us for now while it eats away at our people one by one. But we fight back fiercely once more with the score of our people alongside us."
I'm still not used to all this being called a savior, but I'll probably have to since Gathar and the Kaali will insist to call me the savior one way or the other. But that is if I get through this alive. Just think about it. It's my second battle with a creation as strong as the fabled gods, the first being Marchosias.
Just what could Marchosias be doing just staying quiet the entire journey. After all that we've been through. Although not a lot, but still...
*CRASH!* suddenly, a strong sound of something being broken echoed throughout the village and was followed by a shout of alarm. "Ladon is laying waste to our village! Call for the chieftain!"
All of us who were preparing to fight against Ladon are caught by surprise as the monster itself has come knocking on the Kaali gates.
Gathar stands and unsheathes his giant great sword while shouting commands. "Elya sound the alarms, dera, mobilize the Kaali fighters. It has come here, then we shall finish It off for good. Are you ready to save our people Fafnir?"
Being unsure if I can slay It can't help anymore. "Let's go meet our guest then."
We descend the tree top from where we were planning everything and we see the damage it has done in a split second attack. Houses destroyed, tribespeople killed.
Gathar warns us. "It is here... I can feel its presence. It has camouflaged itself." And as he said that, I could feel a soft hissing sound from behind us.
"Alz, mei'r, ruvant! Yield to me." I turn around and I see Samael and a large serpent lunging at us from the top of the tree trunk. Samael chants, and a purple circle with strange writing on them appears, releasing a dark corrosive chain, coiling around Ladon. The chain pulls the monster into the ground.
Gathar shouts. "Now!" With the signal, the Kaali all jump from the tree top pointing their weapons at Ladon.
7 of them excluding Gathar attacks, but are quickly repelled by a strong whip of Ladons tail from a distance. They are all knocked back Keith extreme force. Some are dead and some are critically injured.
Ladon breaks the chains by flailing on the ground, causing massive tremors, knocking is off our position.
Ladon who's now broken free of the chains slither around a tree, approaching Gathar, Samael and I while we are free falling.
it takes me by its mouth, bringing me to an unfamiliar place in the forest. Throwing me to the ground as it gets away from the kaali village.
The last thing I hear is Samael and Gathar calling out to me in an attempt to save me, but the sound fades as our distance grows.
To my amazement, it speaks. "Odd indeed. A Kaali with only two armsss? I sense a great potential coming from you." The serpent circles me, hissing, while I hold up the incandescent in front of me. The light it emits weakly pulsates
"I can feel a great power from that sword. But no matter, I shall devour you. He lunges forward at great speed. And I only have one chance to dodge its attack.
I got it! I hold the sword up, leaning my entire body to the right. And as I guessed it follows me, Ladon changes its position going to the left. But I'm not finished. I spin clockwise, moving my body and sword to the other side and with great timing the serpent descends, slamming onto the place that I was previously on. I fake the serpent slashing him on the side as I use the momentum of my spin to cut Ladons side.
This monster can eat me whenever it feels the need to, but it hasn't. It's toying with me. To be honest, I don't think I'm fast enough to dodge or outrun it. I'll have to depend on the power that this word possesses.
The septent speaks to itself, clearly surprised that a young child possesses such dexterity, enough to dodge his attack. It pauses for a while, rethinking how he will play with his food.
The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
Fafnir on the other hand feels rather composed. Slightly terrified, but composed nonetheless. He inhales and exhales, thinking out a plan against Ladon.
I need this sword to release it's full potential somehow. Otherwise it'd be fatal for me.
While Fafnir thinks to himself, the mischievous serpent hides within the shadows, camouflaging itself with the ability its scales possess. Coiling around a tree and slithering from one tree to the other.
"Well this is quite troublesome." As I think about how difficult it'll be to defeat something like a heavenly beast, the light of the incandescent weakens. "What's wrong? I feel less power coming from it now."
"Come child, now is not the time to be alarmed. For you will be a catalyst for my ssstrength." It hisses once again, but the sound just echoes everywhere, making it hard for me to identify its whereabouts. But I know for a fact that it's circling me, slowly planning out how to devour me.
"Come on Fafnir think. There has got to be a way. I can do this!" My confidence grows, but not just that. What surprises me the most is the incandescent suddenly glowing brightly.
This may just be an assumption, but I think the sun god draws power from will, perseverance, courage or fortitude. Which ever one of those. Based on what I feel, huh. Seems fitting for a sun god.
Now with renewed vigor, I channel all the strength I can though the incandescent with the feeling of confidence, confidence that I can manage to at least wound the serpent. Just enough time to stall for Samael and Gathars hopeful rescue.
"Interesting... I can sense the power of the sun god from you... How amussssing. Are you an offspring of the sun god? Or a blessed soul?"
Just what is this serpent ranting on and on about? I thought that it was obvious that the power is coming from the sword. But then again, I did draw some power from the sword to my body, enhancing my physical attributes just like what Marchosias can do. But compared to Marchosias's power of enhancement, the blood of the sun god won't cut it.
"Be honored for I shall show you my true potential."
Ladon starts to act erratically, writhing its upper body in the air as if vomiting something.
The massive serpent opens its mouth facing the ground. And from there, a human emerges. One with long black hair, one that stretches all the way to his back, his bangs cover a part of his face. His eyes are the same as the serpent that he emerged from, yellow with a vertical pupil. He grins mischievously at me. He is pale skinned possessing a skinny body.
I stare intently at the gruesome scene unfolding before me for it not finished. One more thing emerges from the serpent's mouth. A long black scythe taller than him falls into Ladons hand. And with that, the massive serpent goes limp falling to the ground with a strong tremor.
A pure yellow halo looms over Ladons head, indicating that he is a being born from the heavens. A dark tunic envelops his body emitting an unsettling aura.
"Well then, care to entertain me?" Ladon slowly approaches me with his scythe acting as a cane.
I ready myself, drawing as much power as I can from the sword, nearly draining the blood of the sun god for my own. Will I be able to? No... Wait. I can and I will.
I raise the incandescent with a fervor and it glows a bright white light. It glows and thus it coats the sword with divine flames.
Ladon rushes me retracting his scythe to the right, intending to swing from that direction as well. "You just grow stronger and stronger, but it won't be enough Ha Ha Ha!"
He swipes from the right, but I parry placing the sword flat on my back, reinforced by my left hand. He pulls me with his scythe instead, drawing me towards him, hitting me with his knee spot on at my stomach forcing me to recoil. He pulls me next by my neck with his left hand raising me into the air, choking me for a second, then throwing me aside with a force so strong that I hit a far away tree, destroying its bark with the impact from the throw.
Ladon does not stop there. He rushes once again. I quickly brush off the impact and get up, ready to defend once more. The power I received from the sword enhanced my sight and reactions slightly.
Ladon closes in on me unleashing a deadly combination of attacks that come from every direction, he moves his body along with the scythe further strengthening his attacks.
In response to Ladons combination, I merely struggle to defend as he gives me no time for an offensive. I use both hands to parry and try to slip away from his general direction but dismally fails.
The perfect timing! I accidentally make him recoil with my swords defense. I take this opportunity to empower the sword coming it with flames as bright as the morning sun and slashing it upwards from my lower left side.
A beautiful arc of flames appear as I slash forward in hopes of hitting Ladon, in which I succeed surprisingly.
He doesn't flinch. He stays standing there taking the full force of my attack. "You never run out of surprises don't you? Just a bundle of joy waiting to be opened. I'll enjoy this to the fullest."
He moves forward along with his Scythe once more and we fight each other relentlessly. I accumulate wounds and scars from Ladons fierce attacks, making me weaker every second that passes.
Ladon lands a clean slash behind me, making a long scar. He spun around knocking me back and in the infusion I was cut.
I try to support myself with my legs, but they give way. I'm tired, out of energy, I think there's only so much power the blade can offer me or I'm just not worthy of that.
I can hear a voice from behind me as I lay on the ground face down. "Don't tell me that's all you can manage. I had hoped for more, but alas you are merely a child. Die with pride that you have wounded me.
The glow of the incandescent weakens once more and consciousness begins to fade, but so,etching is stopping me from blacking out.
I close my eyes, but I start seeing things in my mind that I've never seen before. Pure destruction caused by power going rampant. Omnipotence and absolute power, so much more than what you can hope for and enough to save your loved ones.
Yes... I want that kind of power. But who will give it to me? Should I take it or earn it instead?
The young Fafnir laying face down on the ground grips his sword and his body begins to writhe. He gets up on all fours disregarding the pain from Ladons attack, and he slowly gets up.
"... Just what is this? More surprises for me?"
Fafnir gets up, his back facing Ladon. But there's something eerie about him. The incandescent burns brightly than never before, the flames engulfing it is enough to burn anything near it.
He turns to face Ladon slowly. His eyes are closed as he now faces Ladon.
Fafnir holds the incandescent with his right arm, and he opens his eyes, yellow with his pupils vertical, the same as Ladons but even more fury can be felt from just his gaze, enough to terrify a man.
Scales begin to replace some parts of his skin, some on his arm and some on his face. He exhales blue flames of omnipotence.
Ladons stands still, shocked by this sudden transformation. "Wait... Don't tell me. It can't be. No, it's impossible It can't be you."
Ladon readies his scythe once more and leaps forward, spinning his body along with his scythe. "Time to finish you!"
Fafnir only looks at his with an intent to murder and Ladon loses momentum, pathetically crashing to the ground.
Fafnir comes closer to Ladon, but the serpent itself is too petrified to move away from Fafnir.
"Just what are you!" Ladon shouts at Fafnir, still walking closer to Ladon, who suddenly changed personalities. From a cunning prideful serpent to a cowardly and weak worm.
The young child takes Ladon by the neck, constricting him from breathing. He slowly brings the incandescent towards Ladons stomach. The serpent can't fight back, he can't avert his gaze from fafnir's either, and most of all, he can't talk anymore.
Fafnir runs the blade into Ladons stomach slowly until the boundary of the sword and the hilt hits the stomach, indicating that the entire sword now runs through Ladon.
He doesn't resist. It's not that he doesn't want to but he can't. He simply drops his scythe on the ground while still being held by the neck. The serpent slowly loses consciousness, closing his eyes.
The incandescent burns while impaling Ladon, it's strength is a fraction of that of the sun's. Fafnir ignites his left hand, burning Ladons neck with blue flames.
Ladon tries to scream, but the voices won't come out. He merely opens his mouth, looking at Fafnir, who mercilessly looks at Ladon while slowly burning him to death.
He grips his neck harder and the flames burn faster, thus the flames of the incandescent and the mysterious blue flames burns its victim to cinders leaving only the dust of the serpent lying on the ground, whisked away by the air.
Fafnir loses consciousness and falls to the ground without much resistance.
"Fafnir!" A voice from the distance.
