Book 4 Chapter 43: After The Clangang

Dun called out to his clan, interrupting their early celebrations and forcing them to prepare to make their way back to the old valley. They grumbled a bit but obeyed, breaking off their conversations and as they went to pack any food or supplies, they had brought with them to the basin.

Those from Havo that had come to greet the new members of the tribe waved their goodbyes, hearing their own leaders calling for them to leave as well. They first promised to talk more later, the clan of knowledge unable to hide their curiosity of the former outsiders now that they had joined the tribe officially.

Fui also followed their example… Kos shaking Dun’s hand before giving Tirr a rough pat on the back that would have sent any normal child flying. Finally, they left, though only after Kos forced Dun’s agreement of drink and meat after the moot.

Having said their goodbyes and packed what they had brought, Waythe finally left, leaving the Lakebed behind. Beyond the towering peaks, the sun soon set in the distance, casting a golden light over the mountain paths.

They reached the Waythe campsite in the old valley not long after night fell and almost immediately the whole clan set about preparing food and drink. The air was soon filled with the smell of sizzling meat and simmering stews while music mixed with a variety of songs, each bellowed loudly enough to carry across the entire valley. It seemed no one in Clan Waythe cared if the rest of the valley’s residents heard them tonight.

As for Tirr, he sat with a bemused expression, looking at those of Clan Waythe while thinking he’d spent more time with them during a celebration than not. Maria sat to his right, her mouth almost as stuffed as the plate in front of her as she dug greedily into the roasted meat and tubers. On his other side sat Sera, serving Tirr more food and drink in between attending to her own plate.

Doron had gone off somewhere, maybe to spend some more time with that lady from their first night here, but the rest of the Clangang’s participants sat around Tirr with their own cups and plates. Sai was eating just as eagerly as Maria digging in happily while stopping only to gasp for breath and take another swig of the berry wine before diving back in.

Even Lin sat with a cup in hand and a teasing smile on her lips as she ate happily, occasionally glancing at Natty, the other water disciple who participated and now sat next to her, before bursting out into giggles. The reason for their laughter sat just across from them, where a sullen Iesa sat in with a perpetual frown.

Looking at the fire disciple, Lin raised her cup, “Iesa could you fill my cup, please? I seem to have gone through it too quickly…”

Iesa stiffened, her frown deepening, yet she stood and obediently brought over a jug, filling the cup before going to sit back down…

“Oh, you missed Natty’s cup, she needs some too…’

Iesa stopped, sending Lin a glare before rising again to fill the other water disciple’s cup. As she went to sit down the two women burst into giggles again unable to hide their cheer.

Tirr shook his head at the scene, he had wanted to stop the whole thing initially, but Iesa herself said she had lost fair and square, having apparently bet on the match’s outcome with Lin behind everyone else backs. Now she had to deal with the consequence of said bet, spending the rest of the evening as Lin’s servant.

As Tirr went back to watching the festivities he noticed Dun coming out of the crowd towards them. He sat next to the young god nodding at   Maria’s muffled greeting and extending his own before growing serious. “So, for the moot tomorrow…” Dun started, he went over things Tirr should know for his first meeting with the tribe as one of its members, most of which they had gone over before. Tirr listened carefully though, and once Dun was satisfied the former mercenary bid his farewells for the night taking off for bed and a good night’s sleep.

Around them, most of the Clan had settled down too, no one wanting to sleep through the moot the next day…And Tirr’s party went to sleep not long after, Tirr wrapped in Maria’s arms as the older girl drooled peacefully, making Tirr roll his eyes… He settled in though, before letting his mind wander to the large abomination up in the mountains…

He shook his head… As long as it doesn’t wake up it shouldn’t be hard to deal with… We’ll take our time and call Claire and Nerida… It won’t be a problem…

Yet as morning came and passed and the clan prepared to head to the Moot, a disgusted Fari arrived with a few members of Clan Havo… “Rev’s disappeared…” She said sternly. her voice echoing off the mountain walls.
