9 - Off To The Races

The track shattered, making a cloud of dust violently seep through the cracks and into the air, along with a shockwave pushing Kael off his feet. He landed on his butt, coughing. Luckily, the cloud dispersed quickly because of the shockwave. Kael got up to his feet and looked around.

The race track was completely destroyed, and in the place where his dad had been, the track had been grounded down into sand. A very, very fine sand. Kael thought, running his fingers through the sand. It was like his dad had completely disappeared. Well, if you ignored the roaring of what sounded like a tornado in the distance.

Over on the other side of the track was his dad, running faster than most Formula One racecars could go. Behind him, a giant billow of dust followed in his wake, painting some unlucky trees beige. In the time he had thought that, his dad had already crossed the three-quarters mark and was heading for hi- "AAA!" Kael screamed as his instincts caught up to him, and he rolled out of the way of his speeding bullet train of a dad.

He didn't really need to though, as his dad braked with his heels, making anyone nearby wonder why they could hear thunder rolling. "You... you almost crashed into me!" Said Kael, gesturing him being obliterated into tiny pieces flying across the country because of his dad and the little pieces of his body being discovered in a bajillion zillion trillion years by space explorers with laser guns that look like banan...

Anyway, snapping back to reality, Kael saw something that was not there before. It was a blue and gold thread, thin but firmly tied. It connected him to something in the distance that he could not see. It was fading fast though. Kael tried grasping it but he quickly remembered that it was not physical. Instead, he focused on the thread of gold and blue extending into the distance. With focus, he saw the thread growing bigger and brighter.

Once the thread became about the size of his forearm in thickness, it stopped and released a pulse of gold-blue light. This pulse went through all of his surroundings, revealing threads of varying sizes and colors. A notification appeared while he was just staring at the beauty of it.
