THE GIRL WITH THE BUNNY FACE
CHAPTER 5 - BATHE HER?

CHAPTER 5 - BATHE HER?

The morning light filtered softly into the dining room, casting a gentle glow over the elegant space.

A serene calm settled over everything, as if the room itself was caught in a peaceful reverie.

At the table, the girl sat quietly, her long bunny ears twitching as she nibbled on slices of ripe fruit.

She took each bite slowly, savoring the taste with wide, curious eyes.

It was as if every flavor was a new discovery, something delightful that she was experiencing for the first time.

From across the room, Liang Xun watched her, his gaze lingering.

There was something oddly mesmerizing about the way she ate, her innocence somehow intriguing.

He wasn’t sure when he had last taken a moment just to observe someone like this, much less felt a strange softness stir within him as he did.

It was unfamiliar, yet he couldn’t quite tear his eyes away.

The quiet moment was broken as Yun Fei entered the room, carrying a stack of documents.

His expression, as always, was polished and professional, each step measured and respectful.

"Sir," Yun Fei began with a slight bow, "I brought the documents for the upcoming project. I thought you might want to go over them."

Liang Xun blinked, snapping out of his thoughts, and gave a brief nod. "Let’s discuss it in the study."

But before he left, he glanced once more at the girl, who was still engrossed in her fruit, seemingly oblivious to everything else.

There was a strange lightness in her expression, an innocence that tugged at him unexpectedly.

Shaking off the feeling, he turned and led Yun Fei toward the study.

---

The study was quiet and filled with the scent of polished wood and leather. Sunlight streamed in through the windows, casting long shadows over the rows of bookshelves that lined the walls.

As soon as they settled at the desk, the atmosphere shifted, growing serious and focused.

Yun Fei laid out the documents with practiced precision. "The proposal has been well-received," he reported. "But the investors are requesting a more detailed timeline and resource allocation for the upcoming phases. If we adjust a few key elements, I believe it’ll strengthen our position."

Liang Xun nodded as he scanned the papers, his expression hardening into one of intense concentration. "Got it. Focus on refining the budget outline and coordinate with the project heads to ensure they’re on track. We can’t afford delays."

You could be reading stolen content. Head to the original site for the genuine story.

Yun Fei jotted down notes. "Anything else you’d like me to address?"

Pausing, Liang Xun shook his head. "No, that will be all for now."

Yun Fei nodded and left, and Liang Xun remained in the study for a moment longer, lost in thought.

He could still see her in his mind’s eye, those gentle eyes full of wonder as she tasted the fruit.

For a reason he couldn’t name, the memory brought an unusual warmth to his chest.

---

When they returned to the dining room, she was still there, finishing a slice of peach, her face softened by a faint smile.

She seemed so absorbed, so content, as if this small act of eating was the happiest moment of her day.

Yun Fei cast a brief, intrigued glance at her but kept his thoughts to himself as he turned to Liang Xun.

"I’ll take my leave, sir. I’ll have the updated documents prepared by this afternoon."

"Make sure to forward everything by the end of the day," Liang Xun replied, his voice calm and collected.

With a respectful bow, Yun Fei exited, leaving Liang Xun alone with the girl.

Taking a seat on the nearby sofa, Liang Xun picked up a business magazine, flipping through the pages without much interest.

But his gaze kept drifting back to her, his thoughts slipping away from the words in front of him.

---

Moments later, his phone rang, and the caller ID displayed "Grandfather."

Instantly, his expression hardened as he rose and walked back into the study to answer.

"Hello, Grandfather," he said, his tone cool and reserved.

"Liang Xun." The old man’s voice was firm and commanding. "It’s been some time. When will you come home to pay your respects? The family needs to see you."

Liang Xun’s jaw tightened. "When I have the time."

His grandfather’s displeasure was almost palpable. "Your duties to this family are not a matter of convenience, Liang Xun. I expect you to take them seriously."

Barely containing his frustration, Liang Xun kept his voice steady. "I’m handling my responsibilities as I see fit."

A long silence stretched between them before his grandfather sighed, finally relenting. "Fine. I’ll wait, but don’t keep us waiting too long. There are matters to discuss."

Without another word, Liang Xun ended the call, standing in the quiet study with a dark expression.

The tension lingered, but he brushed it off, steeling himself as he left the room.

---

As he made his way down the staircase, he stopped mid-step, spotting her sitting on one of the lower steps.

She looked lost, her bunny ears drooping slightly as she gazed up at him with wide, innocent eyes.

Confusion was written across her face, and a helplessness tugged at her features, making her look even more vulnerable.

A strange pang of sympathy filled his chest as he descended the stairs, kneeling beside her.

"What’s wrong?" he asked softly, unsure if she could understand him.

She looked up at him, her eyes full of trust. She didn’t respond, simply holding his gaze, and he realized she must have wandered out and lost her way.

A quiet chuckle escaped him, surprising even himself as he felt an emotion he couldn’t quite place.

"You’re lost, aren’t you?" he murmured.

Her ears perked up slightly at the warmth in his voice, and he reached out, taking her small, cold hands in his own.

Her skin was soft, her presence oddly comforting, and for a moment, he felt something inside him relax.

"Come on," he said, smiling gently. "I’ll show you the way."

Together, they walked down the corridor, her hand held firmly in his, guiding her back to the room he had prepared for her.

When they arrived, Liang Xun opened the door to reveal the soft, inviting space.

She stepped inside, her gaze drifting around the room.

His eyes landed on the delicate gown she wore—the same one she’d had on when he’d found her in the forest. Its fabric, though beautiful, was clearly unsuitable for everyday wear.

Frowning, he pulled out his phone and dialed Yun Fei. "Bring some clothes over in her size," he instructed.

After ending the call, he glanced back at her, finding her sitting on the bed, her legs swinging slightly as she gazed up at him with curious eyes.

The thought of her bathing crossed his mind, but he hesitated.

He couldn’t ask the staff—her features were too unusual.

After a moment, he headed to the bathroom and prepared a warm bath, setting out soft towels and soap.

Returning to her side, he gestured for her to follow him.

She watched as he showed her the bath, the soap, and the shower, explaining gently, though he wasn’t sure she understood.

“Go ahead and bathe,” he murmured, his voice soft. “I’ll be outside.”

But a soft thud sounded just moments after he’d left.

Liang Xun’s heart skipped a beat as he rushed back into the room, finding her on the floor surrounded by bubbles, her wide eyes blinking up at him in surprise.

Suppressing a chuckle, he knelt down, helping her up. "Looks like I’ll have to bathe you myself," he said, his voice laced with amusement.

——

Once she was dressed in the fresh clothes Yun Fei had delivered, he led her back to the bed.

She yawned, her eyes heavy with sleep, and Liang Xun tucked the blankets around her, his heart unexpectedly light at the sight.

"Rest now," he murmured, his voice softer than he’d intended.

She looked up at him one last time, her eyes calm and full of trust.

As he quietly left the room, casting one last glance back at her peaceful form, he felt a warmth lingering in his chest—a warmth he wasn’t ready to understand.
