My status flickered across my mind as I was waking up. Mom was asleep in a nearby chair, she looked tired with big dark circles around her eyes. I could tell the she had been crying. Aside from that she looked good, no cuts or bruises that I could see. I didn’t know where we were, this room was bare save two chairs and the bed I was in. The room’s whole ceiling was glowing with a gentle white light. I thought I could hear my dad’s voice on the other side of the only door I could see.

“Mom, what happened?” My throat felt like it was on fire. My whole body hurt, this was the most pain I had ever experienced in both of my lives. When I tried to look around my neck protested the effort by shooting a burning pain down my back.

“Oh Goddess, what happened to me?” I was crying by the time mom made it to my bedside.

“It will be ok, you will be fine in no time Ziaya.” Mom whispered to me pulling me into a hug, while I cried into her chest whimpering as she moved me.

“What do you remember?” Mom asked me.

“I don’t remember anything except the pain in the back of my head.” I told her.

I didn’t what to tell her what happened in the “Soul Space” or about an emergency system unlock. I didn’t know how she would react.

“Mom what happened?” I asked again. “I want to know.”

“Ziaya, You need to rest. You were attacked…” Mom started to answer, when the door to the room was thrown open. The figure that came striding through was covered from head to toe in a shining metal that I had never seen before. The armor was beautifully made of a silver metal. The chest plate, greaves and gauntlets were all trimmed with a blue runic script. When he looked at me I immediately recognized my dad’s kind and caring blue eyes- according to mom the same eyes I have- thou his eyes looked ready to kill.

“Alice.” Dad said to mom before he knelt beside me. “Little Star, how are you?” I watched the hardness in his eyes melt. Then with a sigh he removed his helmet. I gasped as I saw he had a new scar running across his left cheek.

“I am fine dad, just hurt a lot.” I whimpered. “I don’t understand what is happening? And where are we? And most importantly why are you armored?” once I started I just kept spewing out questions?

Dad chuckled then broke into a big grin. “Yes I suppose you are going to be fine. That is good. Several young people have been killed or kidnapped, all of them share something with you.” Dad looks to me to see if I understood. And I think I could almost grasp what he was saying. What did we share? Did I know these other kids, what did it even matter if I did know them. I now what was special for myself that day.

“We were all about to awaken.” I answered quickly falling into the game dad liked to play, he would ask questions and wait too see if I could find the answer.

“That is correct, now for the hard part. Ziaya your friend, Amelie, was taken. You were almost taken from us. I love your mom but she isn’t a fighter. That is how I know she didn’t kill the kidnapper that was after you. What happened Ziaya?” Dad asked and his eyes hardened as he looked over to mom, before softening as he looked back to me

“I don’t remember.” I answered a little to quickly. The look he gave me left no doubt he knew something.

“Ziaya this is serious, there have been attacks all across the city. We captured five assassins in the guard itself. I found the burnt and smoking body at the house, and I know that your mom couldn’t do it. The neighbors didn’t see anybody except you and Alice. I want to know how did you awaken early?” Dad pressed. I was starting to panic, I just knew I was in trouble now. Would they even believe me?

“One of the greater divine touched my soul and granted an emergency system unlock. At least that is what the notification said. Then I… woke up. That almost feels like the right word, in this dark place where my body doesn’t exist. There I was allowed to pick a (Starter Class).” I gave them a brief description of what I had been offered. I then told them about my class (Child of the Huntress) I kept waiting for them to say something, instead all I got was silence.

In the silence I had a chance to think about something dad said a little while ago. He had found a body, did that mean I had killed them? As I was thinking about it I heard the chime of notification. With that sound I started to cry again, I had killed someone.

“Ding" You have killed Laythor (Shadow Heart Lvl 52 / Requiem Kidnapper Lvl 22) For killing a being more then 50 levels above your own without a class you have been awarded bonus experience.

I stared in shock I had killed someone and they had been over level 50. Dad must have recognized the look in my eyes. He probably saw it in a lot of other people.

“What was his name? It is both a good and bad thing the System will always tell you the name of the person you kill. Just remember they were trying to kill or capture you. And did take many more girls just like you.”

“His name was Laythor and he had two classes one was level 52 and called (Shadow Heart) the other was level 22. His level 22 class was (Requiem Kidnapper). And Dad, I just went to level 10.” I told Dad in what I hoped was a whisper so that mom wouldn’t hear. “Dad why did this happen?” I finally asked.

“I don’t know Little Star. I do know that for the first time in decades I was given a System Quest. Your class name confirmed it.” Dad whispered to me then grinned. “I will train and protect the heir to the Huntress.” Dad turned to mom and the said. “Alice I want you to go and find us a safe place to live and train.” Dad said with a mad gleam in his eyes.

“Ramos, I don’t think that we should train her in a combat class. Maybe we can take her to the priest…” Mom started but was quickly interrupted as dad cut her off.

“Alice please do as I ask. I have heard your opinion on this. Now I am telling you I am going to train her myself. She will have power one-day, more then we could ever imagine.”

Mom sighed, seeming defeated, “Fine, Dear, if this is the path you have chosen, I will find us … something. If you’ll excuse me I’ll start looking right away.” With that parting, mom left the room.

I was a little confused, it wasn’t like mom to just give in like that. Usually, when she acted like this, she was planning something just to prove she was right. I hope everything will be ok. Mom has a tendency to think her way, was always the right way.

“Dad, what’s going on? Are you and Mom fighting? You never fight. I’m sorry. It’s my fault, isn’t it?”

“Oh no, sweetie, it’s not your fault at all. Everything’s going to be fine. You get some rest. I’ve got a few things to take care of before your Mom gets back.”

Dad crossed to the door quickly and opened it. On the other side stood three people. Two tall armor clad warriors and one small robed person. The warriors were clad in matching silver plate with the same blue runes as dad’s. The woman, the curves and the way she walked definitely made that obvious. All of them gave off a feeling of power. One thing I noticed right away was that my pain was fading quickly.

“Hi you must be Ziaya, my name is Felicity. Your Father has asked me to see if I could help you.” She said as she came to stand next to me. She had a warm smile, and bright green eyes. Felicity, seemed to be glowing with energy as she stood beside me. “I am going to heal you now, well more focused than the aura you are currently feeling.” As she was saying this I felt a rush of warmth through my body and mind.

“Wow, I feel great. What was that?” I couldn’t help but to start smiling, I felt really good. Even the fear and anxiety were gone.

“That was (Solar Call) a third tier healing spell. My signature spell really. I am a healer-mage.” She patiently explained to me with her warm smile.

“Ziaya, these are some friends of mine from my adventuring days. Felicity you have already met. Thomas and Themis are twins, both are masters of martial combat. It is almost impossible to tell them apart outside of there armor inside it is impossible.” The two giants gave slight bows in perfect unison as dad introduced them.

“Fel, keep Ziaya safe while we’re out.” Dad then turned to me once more. “Little Star, there are things I have to take care of.” He turned back to Felicity and told her to keep me safe and not to let anyone in here, with the exception of mom.

“Um…miss Felicity, how many tiers are there?” I asked curious about magic.

“There are four recognized tiers. Though there are some, myself included, that believe that there are in fact six tiers. Though the fifth and sixth are considered to beyond the ability of mortals. The power requirements of the fourth tier are really absurd. I have been stuck at third tier for almost a decade.” She explains to me.

We spend what feels like hours talking about magic and what she can do with it. I learned that Felicity is a positive caster.

“Um… Miss Felicity what other elements are there?” I meekly ask her.

“First please call me Fel, as you are the child of one of my best friends. There are a total of six elements that humans can use. All of them are dependent on the affinity of the caster. These elements are positive, negative, earth, fire, water, and air. Now there are some people who are born with multiple affinities that can blend and weave elements together. I am one such, I have the ability to weave both positive and fire. That is how I can be a healer-mage.” It seems that Felicity is a natural teacher. She reminds me of a professor that I once had back in my first life.

I must have fallen asleep, I don’t know how long I slept. I was awoken by loud shouting outside of the door. I could her Felicity telling someone that they could not enter. I could her mom on the other side, I couldn’t make out the words she was saying. There were other voices that I didn’t know. The door opened and I could see mom with three other people in dark robes.

“Alice can enter, you three may not.” Fel said in a tone of anger.

“I brought them to see to my daughter, and you can not stop all of them.” Mom said defiantly.

“I have orders from Ramos that only you may enter. And yes I have the power and means to stop them. How could you bring Inquisitors to your own daughter?” Fel replies with anger in her voice.

“Now listen here woman the church will do as it pleases.” One of the men said as he started forward, only to be stopped as a wall of flames sprung to life in front of him.

“You will not lay a hand on her. The three of you are not powerful enough to (Seal) me.” Fel tells them before turning to mom. “How dare you to bring them, would you really (Seal) your own ten year old daughter before she has a chance to learn.”

While I didn’t know what she meant I could tell it must be bad. Felicity was getting very mad, I could feel her aura from all the way across the room. It looked like she was preparing for this encounter to turn violent.

“It must be done.” Mom cried out. “She is an abomination, how could I give birth to such a thing. I will not let her stain my soul. So yes I went to the church and told them all about her early awakening, they agreed she must be sealed. It is the only way to protect her and to prove my innocence.” Mom was a mess of tears and anger. But why was she looking at me with such hatred. That look broke me and I started crying, it felt like some part of me broke. What had I done to deserve such a look from my own mom.

“That is enough!” A sharp command from one of the road to men. “You will let us pass or you will face the might of the church.” He said as he put out the flames with a gesture of his hand. He took one step forward when a then blade suddenly appeared at his throat.

“You quite right that is enough. Look around you Inquisitor.” I recognized my Dad’s voice. With surprising agility the two living mountains moved into the room to stand in front of my bed, each one of the had a hand on there swords and a shield at the ready.

“I knew you were up to something Alice, thou I would never have considered that you would go to them. This is the last straw, we are done you and I.” Dad was standing there somehow he had moved past mom and the robed men. I couldn’t understand how he or the twins had moved so fast.

“Ramos do you intend to interfere with church business? Will you brand yourself a heretic? If so you will be hunted down and killed.” The man who had spoken to Felicity asked. Though he and his companions including mom all had stepped back.

“Felicity is the stone ready?” Dad asked the healer, his eyes never left the group still beyond the door.

“I am almost finished, are you sure this is the wisest decision?”

“I will not kill them and I don’t know if I could even harm Alice. I do know that we need to leave the church will send reinforcements. If that happens this whole situation will turn bloody and no one wants that.” Dad told her.

I really couldn’t understand stand much of what was happening, I could tell that mom had somehow betrayed us and that we would have to leave. While I was trying to understand, trusting the twins to keep us safe Dad sheathed his sword and gently picked me up off the bed.

“Any time now Fel.” Dad told the healer. “I swear I will keep you safe little star. Silver Falcons {Formation-Gate}.”

I watched with fascination as everyone quickly move into formation, Dad stood in the center, Tomas and Themis moved to stand in front of us while Felicity stood behind us. Once everyone was in place I watched as a time blueish white light blink into existence starting from a ring on Fel’s left hand and moving to Dad and me by connection. The line then split when it passed through us, each of those line connected to one of the twins.

What happened next is hard to describe. It felt as if gravity had shifted, I felt like I was being pulled inward. Then there was a bright flash of blue and white light and a loud banging sound.
