Loran walked into the station, her eyes were underlined with dark shadows and her hair was up in a messy knot. When she reached her team’s assigned area, Bryan jumped in front of her. He looked a bit on edge; he was probably up all night doing the scans Loran asked for. Without Loran asking him, Bryan informed her about the scans, “Okay, so, good news and bad news. Which do you want first?”
“Good news,” Loran said as they walked to her work desk.
“I did the scans and found twenty people in the state of Virginia. I then narrowed it down to the vicinity of where the murders take place, and found only three people. Some may think that is not much but because-”
“Because of the huge mortality rate of world war three it was less than expected- good for us,” Loran thought that was it. Then remembered the bad part, “What is the bad news?”
“The bad news is-”
“Hey Bryan,” a man interrupted Bryan. Loran looked to see who it was; it was another member of the team- Jacob, “Oh, Loran. Good, you will want to hear this. We just went to talk to one of the three suspects and he had just gotten back this morning from an around the world trip. We made sure- he had the travel tags that showed he had been out of the country for almost two years”
“Good to know. Thanks Jacob.” Loran said, giving Jacob a pat on the back. Jacob nodded and left, “Okay now for the bad news. You keep leaving me to hang.”
“Right, the bad news is that one of the suspects is your brother.”
“My brother?” That’s right Loran’s brother served for all five years of world war three.

“Yeah, I’m sorry.”
“It’s fine. I’ll just call him and meet him for lunch, break the news then bring him in for an interview.”
“Sounds good. While you do that we will work on bringing in the other guy.” And with that Loran took a step outside to called her brother:
“Logan?”
“Hey sis!” he sounded happy to hear from her.
“Hey. I was wondering if you wanted to have lunch today?”
“Ooh. I don’t know.” he sounded hesitant, “I already made plans with a friend.”
“It is really important. Please.”
Logan sighed then asked, “Do you think he could come along?”
“Um, I guess.”
“Great. One minute,” Loran heard some muffled yelling, “Hey, Oliver, do you want to go to lunch with me?… Yeah I know but it would have to be with my sister now. Okay. Sorry sis I have to go but expect me and Oliver to be there.”
“Okay, b-” Logan had already hung up. Loran sighed; she didn’t want to go to this lunch already and then Logan had to go and invite this friend- Oliver.
An hour before Loran’s lunch date, Bryan informed her that they had brought the other suspect into custody. The man’s name was Tobais Kooper; he volunteered two years into the war and joined almost right away with barely any training. Loran knew all about Tobais from his file Bryan provided her with. Loran headed to the spectator room to watch the interview of Tobias Kooper. Tobias was young, he was actually twenty seven, and was quite smug. Some people in the room were talking so Loran shushed them as it started.
Bryan joined Tobias in the interview room, “Hello, Tobias.”
“Hello, Officer Bryan.”
“Tobias, do you know why you’re here?”
Tobias took a moment, “Because I am suspected to be a mass murderer?”
“Correct,” Bryan said.
“Actually I have a question before we get into the interview.”
“What is it? Do you need something?”
“Yes actually,” Tobias looked to the one way window, “When I got here I had some medication taken from me, and if you don’t want to deal with a panic attack then I suggest I get them back.”
“I will get that for you, but I’m just wondering… why do you need it?”
“I told you it is for panic attacks. I have PTSD from the war.”
“Oh I am sorry to hear that-”
Loran stopped listening because her phone went off and she realized she had to leave for her lunch date.
