Chapter Three: Deadman Wonderland

Chapter 3:

Deadman Wonderland by Jinsei Kataoka

///POV: First Person\\\

You ever do something so amazing, so perfect that when you look back at your life you’re like “Shit this just has to be the coolest thing that will ever happen to me.” Well that is currently one of my emotions. All the other emotions are screaming words like “Shit. Fuck that hurts. Why didn’t I just kill myself like I said I would!”

I lay face down on the ground inhaling dust with every breath which just has to be unhealthy, but I am way too tired to get up. All my limbs are numb and I feel like absolute ass. Even my fucking neck muscles feel weak, is my brain just that big!? I swear I can feel a spider crawling across my back but I can’t fucking scratch the right spot. Why God, why! I’m just gonna take a nap, fuck this shit.

///About four hours later\\\

I wake up to the smell of zombie flesh permeating the air, and I gag a little from it but then use what little strength I had(I mean this quite literally)and push myself up so I could look around. By now there were only a few scarce fires scattered across the zombies in the compound much unlike the man made biohazard I made before. Me and the compound were now separated by the chain link fence I climbed over after I lit the zombies on fire. I look behind me and see a road running the direct opposite direction from the entrance to the compound. It looked like it went on forever and farther, I couldn see it touch the horizon but not any farther. I release a long sigh ‘That is gonna be a lot of walking.’ The road and the compound on all sides was surrounded by desert deterring any of the prisoners to even try to escape. The desert didn’t even have the occasional cactus anymore because cactus had water held in the center of their body. The government didn’t want to let a single one of the so called ‘trash’ escape.

“I am seriously fucked.”

[I know right, what did those Deaduns ever do to you. I told you to kill them but damn. You know the difference from Zombies and Deaduns is that Deaduns feel pain and Zombies don’t. You probably didn’t realize because you passed out, but they were screaming for about two hours before they finally had the sweet release of death.]

“Oh, cool. Well at least I have a way to tell if they are dead or not now. I guess you could say I’ll be the one running when I hear those Zo-Deaduns hollering.”

[Hey I’m not gonna be able to talk to you anymore after this because I already helped you too much as is. I even got you extra time so you should be grateful to your superior. You totally would have died without me. Anyways here is the last part of the introduction to your workplace. Hello there fellow co-worker! I hear you completed a job, but didn’t do it on time, so you don’t get a promotion star. Sorry! But you do have a chance to use your shop to get food, weapons/ammo, accessories, and household appliances! Yay! All you have to do is acquire gems off the dead bodies of the mobs. To acquire the gems all you have to do is take them from where the mobs heart would be! Isn’t that just amazing! I’m sorry to say but not all mobs have gems D; so be sure to check all of them. Mobs despawn after two days just so you know! Think of someone you would like to kill to open the shop! Have fun]

“Do I have to check all of them *ugh*!”

[Check all of the mobs, gems are important! I have to go now kid boss is calling me. A few last words of advice kid...Listen to the heaven's lessons or else it will cloud your sunrise.]

“Um, okay. What does that mean though?”

[Bye, kid.]

“Bye, I guess” I wonder what’s going on with him, but quickly shake out of it. It wasn’t really the time to ponder something like that. Right now I just have to put my foot down, grit my teeth, and loot the fuck out of those zombies. *Guuuurgle* Yup I was still starving. My lips have chapped over already from dehydration, I’m sure I’ll die eventually if I don’t drink water soon. I have not eaten or drank anything in about a week and two days, so I must have broken some sort of record. My stomach was starting to crunch up in pain so I quickly ran to the fence. I needed to get over this fence to get gems for food.

I start climbing up the fence and feel the cold wires slowly digging into my fingers. I keep on climbing but my fingers start to bleed. I never knew climbing fences could be this hard. I try to go further, but my arms start to get sore, curse my 4.5 strength! I keep on going further but my entire body starts to creak and make weird popping sounds everytime I move. I slowly move up, but then I lose my hold and fall down. *Thud*

“Fuck! *Wheeze* *cough cough* *Arhh*” I had fallen flat on my back and had gotten the wind knocked out of me for the first time in my short life. I thought I was dying for a good minute until I started to breath again. “How the fuck did I ever even make it up there the first time.” I said weakly as I look around from my spot on the ground for a different way in the compound. My eyes scan the area until I find the small box room with the switches and stuff the guards use to open the gate...I am a complete shit head aren’t I? I got ahead of myself and forgot the automated switches that open the fence. ‘Fuck me. Seriously God, just kill me now.’ I get up slowly and walk over to the box room. I peer into the small area through the windows that make up most of the walls, and see all the switches. All of the sudden out of the corner of my eye I see something jump up. “Holy shit.”

The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.

I fall back and see a Deadun furiously scratching at the windows while making loud weird groans. ‘It must have gotten stuck in their after it transformed into a Deadun’. I quickly get up and find a rock of suitable size. The Deadun was now pounding at the window even harder until it actually started to crack. Wasn’t that stuff bulletproof? I think about running, but where would I go? I’d have to come back here anyways; those gems are my only access to food that is actually within walking distance. I guess this means I’m seriously fucked. I wish I had my makeshift flamethrower but I used all the gasoline already.

The Deadun finally makes it through the glass but falls as a result, and lands outside the box face down on the ground just like I was a few minutes ago. The Deadun’s face landed squarely where all the glass it broke landed, so its face must’ve been ripped to shreds. Suddenly a green bar above its head appeared and a miniscule amount of the green recedes revealing the red hidden behind it. I see the name Deadun hovering above the green bar. I don’t take my time to think about these things and quickly rush the Deadun as fast as my slow body can carry me. I reach the Deadun and lift the rock as high as I can over my head and smash it into the skull of the Deadun. A semi translucent blue screen appears in my peripheral vision as if not to get in my way, but also just enough for me to read it’s words.

Critical hit to the skull 10 Damage done

The box appears and disappears as quickly as it came and I start smashing it more. A grotesque hand quickly reaches up to my arm and tries to yank me down into biting range for it’s mouth. I fall forward a little bit being carried by its unsurprisingly strong grip. I shuffle around trying to regain my balance while trying to punch the Deadun’s arm but I couldn’t generate enough force to break it’s grasp. I see its mangled face look up to me trying to snap at my legs and send a fast kick to its nose. The Deadun lets go of my arm and quickly reaches for its nose while screaming out in pain. I had forgotten they could feel pain. I reach across the Deadun’s body and grab the stone I previously used to bash in its head with. I start hitting it in the same spot on the back of the head again and hear a crack. The zombie suddenly jumps at me, and I react as fast as I possibly could by jumping backwards. I see the Deadun scramble to get up and I feel my arm pulsing with pain that lingered from the Deadun’s grip.

I start running away as fast as I can but the Deadun is way faster than me I knew it was going to catch up to me fast. I let out the most ferocious scream I could and turn to face the Deadun. I see it prepare to bite me and I jump towards it as fast as I could. I land on it while extending my right arm holding the rock upwards. It chomps onto the the left nape of my neck and I yell out in pain. I bring down the rock against the spot I hit before and I feel it crash through the Deadun’s skull. I see a notification pop up this time in my vision. I feel the Deadun’s body relax and realize it died. I don’t feel any relief just unending pain extending from my neck.

Congratulations! You have killed a Level 1 Deadun!

You killed a mob in such a...a primal way? So you get the sub-ability Animal Instinct!

You Are Poisoned by the Deadun’s bite, buy a Deadun’s Antidote in the shop to cure the poison's effects!

“Wha-the fuck happened to me.” I start feeling lucid and sway where I stand. I look down at my hands and they look as if I was seeing them from a dream, they were shaking and swaying in odd waves. ‘I have to act fast!’ It was odd because I felt like I could think way clearer than I have ever been able to before. Like I was a person reading a book another time and already knew what was going to happen.

I think of a Deadun and how I want to kill it to open the shop and I search for a search bar but don’t find one. Instead I just think of the antidote and it appears in front of me.

Deadun’s Antidote: Cures all Deadun’s poison when ingested. Gems needed: 15

“Fuck!” Feeling my body slowly loose the little strength it had I run over to the box with all the controls. Flipping all the controls until I finally open the gate. Running inside I start going to all the bodies and dig through their chests to where their heart would be. In my lucid state I could not smell or feel anything and my fingers were going numb, but I knew I needed to get 15 of these gems quick.

///Thirty Minutes Later\\\

I can not feel either of my arms and all my veins have turned a deep blue color, but I somehow managed to acquire the gems needed. I don’t really know why I’m working so hard to survive. I must be an idiot or something.

I think of the president of the world Anthony Dem and the shop appears in front of me. Then I think of the antidote...

Do You Want To Buy This: Yes No

“Yes.”

A bottle materializes in my hand that has turned blue completely.

I slowly lift the bottle up to my mouth and bite off the cork

I take a large swig.

“I don’t drink to forget. No, I drink to remember."

“Ba ha ha, I make myself laugh in front of my worthless livelihood.”

I convulse and pass out surrounded by the bodies of the thousands of Deaduns I killed.
