Chapter 1

A gamemaster (simplify as GM, also known as game master, game manager, game moderator or referee) is a person who acts as an organizer, officiant for questions regarding rules, arbitrator, and moderator for a multiplayer role-playing game. They are most common in co-operative games in which players work together and are less common in competitive games in which players oppose each other. The act performed by a gamemaster is sometimes referred to as "Gamemastering" or simply "GM'ing".

The role of a gamemaster in a traditional role-playing game is to weave the other participants' player-character stories together, control the non-player aspects of the game, create environments in which the players can interact, and solve any player disputes. The basic role of the gamemaster is the same in almost all traditional role-playing games, although differing rule sets make the specific duties of the gamemaster unique to that system.

The role of a gamemaster in an online game is to enforce the game's rules and provide general customer service. Also, unlike gamemasters in traditional role-playing games, gamemasters for online games in some cases are paid employees.

In Royal Road however, only the finest, brilliant and the most experienced players are eligible to be elected to become a Gamemaster. GMs in Royal Road are more or less paid employees, grossing the highest amount at around $73,386 per year, and thus earning the title of being the most sought out career in this generation.

Albeit most of the workers are emanated on the knowledge or experience they possess of the game, not just anyone can become a full time Game Master.

Since GMs have the privilege of early access to events or news about the game, not to mention having more authority over the game than normal users, self-indulgent and ravenous individuals such as our dear Main Character will undoubtedly opt for applying the job as a power greedy GM, and thus, the story from the narrative of a greedy fool for a protagonist shall begin once he finishes elementary school.

As one of the sons of an important person in Unicorn Corporation, Joon Ki was given the privilege of having unfair access into the game albeit being a 10 year old child.  His father was one of the founders of VRMMO  (Virtual Reality Massive Multiplayer Online) and has since been an important sponsor for the VR, thus earning him the title of being the CEO of Unicorn Corporation in South Korea.

Joon Ki ran upstairs towards his room, not bothering to take of the clothes he wore to school today. His mother would punish him for having such low ettique in the mansion but Joon Ki couldn't have cared less. The long awaited holidays have finally come and Joon Ki has two weeks of freedom to play Royal Road without any dreadful homework that has to be done.

Since 24 hours in real time is equal to about 4 days in game time, Joon Ki had the clear schedule of playing for 56 days in two weeks, which to him was perfect. Now, all he wishes for is that his siblings and mother to not bother him during his play time. The book he had read for a year about Virtual Reality had given him enough guidance to start the game without a tutorial.

"Finally..."   He muttered as he continue to open the hatch of the capsule, he could feel the excitement and intensity welling inside of him forcing a broad grin on his small face. He stepped iside the capsule and allowed  himself to relax as the machine scans his irises for further identification.

Smiling, Joon Ki answered without any hesitation.

"Yes!"

Joon Ki's heart rate was slowly increasing.

"Yes."

"Xen."     Xen was the name of his favorite video game hero, he remembered how much he admired the small, cheeky silver haired hero.

—Select your gender from male, female or neutral—

Since Xen thought that having an ambiguos gender appealed to him more.

"Neutral."

—Royal Road has forty-nine races. You may select your race from the primary twenty-nine...—

Xen was a cheater, he already knew all of the forty-nine races. To make matters better, he could even choose a race that has been put impossibe to be discovered by even the most hardcore seekers in the game.

"Shadow race."

The Shadow race was by far one of the impossible races to be discovered by ordinary players.

—You may alter your appearance—

Looking at his reflection in the mirror in front of him, Xen decided to change his look to match his favorite hero. He changed his natural hair color to silver and lengthen it up to his shoulders. As a shadow, Xen's skin color was slightly translucent and he had a dark, smoky glow illuminating his entire body, making him appear smoky rather than human.

He decided to chane the color of his eyes to tinted blue, since his favourite character had it.

After a few changes here and there, Xen has had enough and accepted the way he looked, and finally moved on from altering his appearance.

"The Citadel of Serabourg, Rosenheim Kingdom."

Since that was where every newbie should start in.

— Welcome to Royal...­—

"Pass!"

Xen had already enough infromation about the game, so he did not waste his time with the tutorial.

And within a flash, Xen landed in Rosenheim Kingdom, already attracting the eyes of the curious onlookers.
