Book 4 - Chapter 17

Petor sighed as he withdrew his hand from what were supposed to be lightning bomb bushes and made notes.

“How’re they looking?” Valter asked, as he wiped his hands on his pants, behind him his and Petor’s armored were laid out on the forge tables.

“A whole lot of nothing unfortunately,” Petor said as he moved to the second last trough of Crystalline Bramble hopefuls.

“The Sharpened Galeseeds, Firebomb and the Lightning bomb bushes didn’t take on the attributes I wanted. Instead they’re just slightly different Galeseeds and Boulder bushes without the crystalline Willow, Hellfire or Stormvine attributes showing through.” Petor shrugged. “Got some good experience from making them at least. Its going to take a few more generations before I’m able to modify them into what I want.”

“Learning can be half the battle,” Valter said.

“Yeah.” Petor knew the words were right, but they weren’t the ones he wanted to be hearing. He reached the end of the brambles. A few of them had crystalline sections with the same tell-tale molten cracks running through them. Though they were fragile and easily broke off the plant with the slightest disturbance.

A big consolation was that each plant he grew gained him essence, three quarters of his core was filled with green.

“On the right path, just needs some more time.” Petor stored away his plants. He hoped they’d have some time on their journey, but he doubted it.

The door to the house opened as Mya stepped out wearing a new outfit. A light tan pair of pants with a white shirt and a waistcoat stitched in gold. She wore two new bracers backed by a leather material. Three circles were inset into each of them, a rune covered piece screwed into each socket.

Her hat had additional details sown into it as she strode over.

Petor finished up his notes and stored the last of the plants.

“How goes it lads!” She called, blinking rapidly against the sleep. She’d been up all night in the living room working on their final pieces of gear.

Petor felt the mana fluctuations of the gate and a familiar signature heading for them.

“Desari’s on her way.” Petor told the others.

Mya let out a low whistle as she looked over Petor and Valter’s armor. “Damn, now ain’t that some shit.”

“Hmm?” Petor turned his head.

Valter had his arms crossed, his mouth curved upward as he sat against the side of his forge, letting Mya have full run of the place and access to the armor.

“Well damn, that is special,” Mya took out her glasses and checked over the armor, picking it up and moving it around.

Desari rounded the corner to the space, her strides carrying her across the space quickly. “Alright, I have everyone’s potions and medical supplies.”

She drew out bandoliers of gear, creating three distinct piles.

“Yours,” She said to Petor, pointing at it as he approached. “Mya your one’s on the end with the small casks.”

Petor stored the gear away in his storage device.

“Care to share what you’re seeing?” Desari asked.

“Well,” Mya took out paper and pen, copying down information quickly before putting it ontop of Valter’s armor.

Petor leaned in with the other two as Mya moved around them all and collected her alchemical gear. He knew what it should be based on his chats with Valter.

Mya snapped out a jacket of black and put it down on a free table, adding in extra pieces. “Your gear Desari.”

She dropped a hood off at the top and then moved around to Petor’s armor and laid down a large green scarf ontop of Petor’s armor, she gave Valter a cap. “To protect your heads.”

“I’ve already got the materials and patterns, as well as the sizings. I’ve also got a few pieces that I want to work on for you two,” Mya looked between Valter and Petor.

“Knew you cared. Got to have fashion in the middle of a fight.” Petor scooped his hair back.

Desari glared at him from the side, with about much effect as water flicked at a wall.

Mya clicked her tongue, hands on her fist. “See you get it. Sure you can destroy all your enemies before you, but doing it in style.” She tucked her fingers into her waist coat. “Now that’s what professionals are all about.”

Done with her posing she took out bundles and threw them at both men.

“What’s this clothing?” Valter asked.

“Since you two are fans of the simple pants, shirts and gambesons and I’m a fan of my new found sense of smell.” Mya held onto the front of her jacket, eyes moving between Petor and Valter in admonishment.

Water striking wall.

She let out a huff as her words held no grasp on them and took out several items of clothing in a flourish.

“Most of this I was able to source and then I added in a few stitched enchantments to help out.”

The pants had the stitched enchantments down the seams while the shirts had them across the back and the Gambesons were sown up inside so they would push against the back of the wearer instead of up against the armor that would go overtop.

Mya lifted up the individual pieces, showing up the sowing.

“Pants and shirt have enchantments that will work over twenty-four hours on the ambient mana to clean themselves. No more laundry out in the field. The Gambeson has an updated enchantment to regulate your temperature no matter the climate. The quick one I did here just decreased the overall temperature.”

Petor picked up the pants and pulled on them, finding them stretch.

“I didn’t add temperature control with the pants as it would have taken up the two enchantments, instead I worked in an enchantment that would activate when warm and when cold to allow more or less air through the material.”

“Love a nice breeze in the afternoon,” Petor quipped.

“Desari taught me how wind and air are really how we insulate ourselves,” Mya looked at the other woman.

“When you’re cold your hairs stand up because they’re trying to capture as much air as possible and hold it to you to create a thermal barrier against the rest of the world. The more air that you can keep close to your skin the warmer you’ll be.” Desari explained. “If the air around you strips the air close to your skin, then you’re going to find yourself a hell of a lot chillier.”

“Thank you for these Mya. I can honestly say I’ve never had better clothes than these,” Valter said.

Petor nodded in agreement.

“Good! The Gambeson is actually layered with different materials to decrease the amount of impact force transmitted from your armor to you, gives you padding and saves your lives.” She picked up the shirt. “Pretty simple shirt, good at soaking up your sweat when it needs to and keeping you warm when you are.” She indicated to the pants and Petor handed them over.

“The pants are made of a material that’s hardy, comfortable on the skin and moves easily, while also being stretchy so when you put your armor overtop you can move your joints without your pants restricting your movements.”

Petor examined them closely.

“Thank you Mya,” Petor said, putting down .

“Not a problem, now remember to pack some damn soap for the road will you? Just got back my sense of smell and sometimes you want me to burn my nose right off.” She handed him back his pants and took out her card tapping it to his to transfer the funds.

“I’ll do my best,” Petor grinned.

“You’ll also be happy to know that I sold off the cores that Valter liberated on our port raid. Then the ones that you got from the dungeon fighting too. All but the green cores.” She said.

“How many do we have left?” Valter asked.

“One hundred and thirteen green cores, quite a bit of jumping around with that.” Mya winked.
