Nature is a force to be reckoned with. It is unpredictable and unavoidable. No matter how long we live in this world, nature will claim our life at last. We cannot understand exactly how nature works, simply because we aren`t meant to know. It will not let us have that knowledge. We are supposed to live here, and be a part of the ecosystem that it made, but we tried to dominate it. When we are close to understanding nature itself, how to control its forces, it will change. It only took a moment. I have lived through it. I have seen the change of nature with my own eyes. It was so much that it held back from the world. Change was nature`s defence.
It was … well, it was certainly unexpected. Renowned scientists all over the world claimed we were close to understanding everything. We were supposed to achieve everything we imagined was possible. The power to control nature. Many people couldn`t wait. Of course, I knew it was too good to be true. It was true that we were close, but now humans posed a threat to nature itself. You know what happens when you corner something up? You give it a choice, where only one answer is the most reasonable. It attacks. It attacks with everything it can to escape, and flee from its confinement.
Humans have always been ignorant. Scientists didn’t even know the consequences of what they did, but it was still tried. Humans made too much excitement around it, and governments would force them to do it anyway. The first warning was simple earthquakes. Not big, horrible earthquakes, but big enough to notice. They were marked as natural earthquakes, but it kept getting worse. I remember when we left the city to escape the damage from buildings that were crumbling apart, and asphalt cracking into pieces. Soon after I left the city, I can recall how much the earth shook. I saw the horrible event I barely escaped. I felt so much unknown emotions at the horrible sight of a mountain sprouting up in the sky from beneath my city. My home was destroyed in mere moments, and I could only watch. I was terrified. I was just far enough from the city to avoid damage, but I could still hear their frightened screams. I could see humans fly through the sky, flung to the sky by the mountain that came out of nowhere. The worst must have been that many of them were still alive.
While I stood there and watched, the earthquakes kept getting bigger. The earth started cracking into pieces. New formations came everywhere, and the world changed from what I had known my whole life. Trees grew at impossible speeds. I could see the roots crawling through the ground almost as fast as I could run, and that was when I was sprinting. Even though I felt terrified of what was happening, I could not help to be amazed. This was not supposed to be possible, but here I saw it with my own eyes. The ocean flooded, and some areas that had been dry for millennia was finally submerged in water again. The air became noticeably thicker as I ran, and I could feel it help my stamina.

I had to find a safe place, where I could survive. I was constantly dodging fast-growing plants, fractures in the earth and the humans falling from the sky. It was not a comfortable sight when you saw a human explode from the force of falling from the sky less than ten meters from you. A little behind me was my family. My mother, father and sister. They ran as fast as they could, but they did not have the ability to keep going. They didn`t make it. They couldn`t run fast enough to avoid the plants. I cannot even explain how horrible it was to watch as the roots took hold of my family. Roots broke their skin in seconds, and when they fell, the roots continued to grow through them just as if they were earth. The only difference between them is that the earth does not scream. They do, and they do so very loudly. The last sentence I heard my father scream was something I will remember. He screamed: “Run, Jack! Run and survive for us!”
I had no idea how long I had been running. My shoes had fallen apart a long time ago, and my clothes were torn. My body felt exhausted, and the scratches all over my body made me want to scream in pain. I couldn`t scream, even though I wished it more than I had wanted an iPhone before this happened. I could scream very loudly back then. Now, I needed my breath. The air was the only support that hindered my muscles from breaking down.
The plant growth had slowed down a lot. I had been able to outrun it, but I could see it kept growing, even though it was slower. I couldn`t stop until I knew I was safe. I had lost my home, my family and my body was exhausted. I wouldn`t give up after I had been through all this. I promised myself that I would do everything I could do to survive. I was by no means an expert of survival, but I knew how to make a flame, and that I needed water more than food.
Even though I was pretty determined to keep my promise to survive, I was close to giving up. That was when nature chose for me. The earth cracked right beneath my feet, and threw me away. The only thing I could do while I flew through the sky, was pray that I survived. I knew that I was alive when I hit the ground, but I didn`t have the strength to get up. The pain and exhaustion became too much. I only laid down and accepted whatever fate I had coming. I closed my eyes and let sleep come over me.
