Chapter 1

The world was deathly silent, yet filled with people. My eyes  searched the street  for him. Pleading to the gods that they didn't harm him. It was my fault.

He wouldn't  of gotten caught, if it were for me. His leader.

Finally. Among the people. There he was. The white untamed hair was now scruffier. Upon his lip, sat a dried wound. The nights he spent awake left bags under his eyes, but what separated him from the crowd was his black eye and the open wound of a slit that lay across his freckled cheek.

A guard held his restraints, walking him up to his death. Parading him as if he was a new clothing.

He had no fight left in his eyes. They knew that. They knew what they were doing to him. Making him an example.

For those who break the rules.

For those who dare to fight back.

Felix's eyes were locked with mine as he walked past. Determination was lit in his eyes again. My hand gripped my dagger that was hidden behind my cloak.

Before I could pull it out my hand was pulled back to my side. "There's nothing we can do for him now," Archie announced behind me. Whispering his words in my ear.

They had him for two nights. Before we could plan anything, they announced it the following morning. His execution.

Before Felix took his first step up the wooden stairs, the masked soldiers took off his chains. Allowing them to drop to the floor.

Felix wasted no time and punched the nearest one, an attempt to knock him to the floor. At least that would've happened if he wasn't so weak. The guard next to him, grabbed his arms and twisted them behind his back. A yell of pain came from Felix.

My feet stood rooted to the ground, as my eyes looked towards the stand the Royals sat. The Second Prince Nicolas, from our sources, he plans with the King. Was sitting next to the Queen, who had an unreadable look on her face, however, Nicolas a pure look of excitement as if this was his first time out the castle.

The eldest Prince Cassian, the one the King neglects the most. Due to the rebellion stage he's in, even though he's in his early twenties.

Royal Road is the home of this novel. Visit there to read the original and support the author.

Unlike the others, The King, had a smirk on his face as he watched the audience gasp from the scene that they watched.

There was no need for that and he knew it.

Before I knew it Felix was on the stand. The priest stood beside him. The axe man behind him.

"Felix Cayer, you are found guilty of an assassination attempt against the Royal Highness, you are hereby sentenced to death. Do you have any last words? " The Priest spoke.

Felix turned to the right. His head held up high as the soldiers gripped his hand tighter, a poor attempt to keep him still. And yet he had no pain to show to them. "King Kalon, I have a message from the citizens of this city! You better watch your back from now on! Your reign is coming to an end,"

While he spoke the soldiers forced him to kneel on the ground and forced his head on the stone slab. He looked up and scanned the eyes of the public and met my eyes, which were hinted with guilt no matter how hard I try to mask my face.

"It's not your fault," those words were mouthed from his lips. "Stay strong,"

The axeman raised his axe in the air. Slow drumming came from the masked soldiers who stood at the gate.

I looked away not baring to see my friend dead.

Pricing sound of bone echoed the air, Felix's body became limp.

His head still attached to the body. Another blow came. It came off.

I looked at Archie, who looked at Felix when he died. His hand was shaking in mine. He noticed me looking at him, then nodded toward the King causing me to look.

He was standing up. He was actually standing.

"Let this be a warning to those who rise up against me. You will fail. You will die,"

The king wore a red  velvet cloak embodied with golden leaves, that trail down to the end. Prince Cassian stood up, about to leave before The king grabbed his arm and made him turn around.

"I didn't tell you to leave, Cassian!" The king warned his son. "Sit." The king demanded.

Rather than obey his Father, the Prince stares the king down completely obdurate "Don't you dare demand me like I'm some chained up dog," Cassian spoke loudly shoving the hand off his arm.

"Maybe you'd prefer chains and a collar for public events like these," His father suggested. Although they are a few miles away due to the silence we could hear them loud and clear.

Prince Cassian moved forward towards the exit in the stand, but was stopped by a male soldier who's mask around their eyes were a deep forest green and threaded golden leaves within it. Symbolising the fact he was a part of the royal guard.

"Ace, step aside. You're suppose to be my guard under my orders," Cassian states with his a voice of authority.

"My dear boy, when are you going to realise I own everyone," The king spoke beside him.

"You don't own me," Cassian walks past Ace, and got pinned by the wall by him.

Tipping over a flower vase that was on the balcony, it fell.

Leaving an echo of the broken pieces, people who were underneath scrambled away in haste.

"Ace, let go," Cassian struggled against him.

While the Prince tried to move Ace off him, The King had left. Along with the Queen and the young Prince, Nicolas. Ace made sure to let Cassian go after they were the only ones left with a glare Cassian went.

A sound of hooves echoed the gallows. They were leaving. People left with them on foot going back to their daily lives.
