Chapter 1: Vampires

Chapter 1: Vampires

The Valerian empire is the largest and only human empire in the world. It is also one of the most powerful empires in the history of Ofafu, standing at the same level as the current Elven empire and the historical Mimian Empire.

Ruled by Emperor Nix Valerian IV, the empire is slowly expanding under his rule. The main focus of this expansion has been towards the south - the territory of those accursed creatures that call themselves vampires. Vampires - the complete nemeses of humans. Having supernatural powers, these blood sucking monsters are destructive demons that simply bring pain to mankind. Vampires, to the empire, are no better than animals - beings of darkness whose very existence causes pain and destruction. They are mankind’s greatest enemy, and a threat to be exterminated.

Closing the book titled ‘The Empire’, a young boy held his forehead and let out a deep sigh,

“This is a complete waste of time,” he uttered.

“The only thing this book holds is praise for the empire and endless hate towards the vampires. There’s nothing useful in this at all.”

Sighing again, the boy placed the book onto the desk in front of him, and walked towards the bed beside the desk. Throwing himself onto the bed, he started to scream and flail around on the it,

‘This is stupid! How did this even happen to me?!’ he thought, although, if one looked at his expression right now, they would see a wide smile, that betrayed his excitement and happiness at his current situation.

A few minutes ago:

To be fair, the room itself wasn’t bad. It had a king size bed in the centre of the room, a bookshelf filled with various books at the foot of said bed, an expensive looking desk beside the bed and various other little things that added to his comfort. It was the boy himself who was the problem.

You see, when he first woke up, the boy was confused about where he was. With no prior memory of checking into what seemed like a hotel room, it was obvious he would be surprised to wake up in one. However, that wasn’t the end of the surprises that were soon to follow. Getting out of bed, the first thing that surprised him was a mirror. More specifically, what he saw inside the mirror. Reflected in the mirror was a young boy with a deathly pale complexion and an emaciated figure, as if he was a cancer patient. He had black hair and was quite short, standing at barely 160 cm.

The most important thing however, was his face. It was handsome. The boy standing in the mirror was short, yes, but was also very handsome. This was when the boy realised something was wrong. After all,

‘This can't be my body! There is no way this short, handsome dude is me! What in the world happened?!’

In complete disbelief, the boy moved closer to the mirror and started making various actions.

He pulled on the sleeves of the formal white shirt he was wearing, attempting to smoothing out the creases along its length.

He shifted around the black pants on his waist, and once he was satisfied with how he looked, began to examine his reflection with more focus.

Running his hand across ‘his’ face, the boy bent forward towards the mirror and noticed the red pupils that were moving around in his eyes.

His mouth falling open, the boy thought to himself,

‘Last I checked, I did not have red eyes…’

Suddenly, something else caught his eye - his teeth, or more specifically, the fangs that were there instead of the canines that should be.

Sticking his face as close to the mirror as he could, the boy ran his hands over the fangs.

“Ow!” he exclaimed, pulling away his hand. Gazing at the cut on his finger, the boy’s eyes widened in disbelief as an idea slowly started to form in his mind.

Remembering something he had only read in novels and the like, something he never thought was really possible, the boy was now beginning to doubt the knowledge he had learned in his life.

‘There’s no way I suddenly transmigrated right? Me? Of all the people in the world, me?! How? I didn’t get hit by a truck, abuse alcohol, or even pull an all-nighter! I simply went to bed in my room! So how did I end up here?’

Shaking his head, he said,

“No, there’s no point in thinking how or why, I’m pretty sure I won’t be able to answer those questions anyway. Instead, let’s try to figure out where and who exactly I am.”

Saying so, the boy started to look around the room and try to gain any clues regarding where or who he was. The first thing that struck him was,

‘Why are the curtains closed? Wait, the curtains are closed, and there are no light bulbs here … so how am I able to see perfectly well in this situation? Do I have night vision?’

Scoffing, he shook his head.

‘There’s no way right? Not only did I transmigrate, this is also a world with supernatural powers? Yeah right,’ he hmphed.

‘My eyes probably just adapted to the darkness.’

Putting away his theories, the boy walked towards the curtains. Looking at them more closely, they were quite the unique curtains. As thick as his thumb and completely black, these curtains were clearly made with the intention to prevent the slightest sliver of light from entering into the room. They were also quite heavy, which he realised as he carefully tried to pull them apart. And yet even with all his strength, he was barely able to move them a centimetre apart, letting only a glimmer of light fall inside the room before giving up.

‘Well, this much light should be more than enough,’ the boy thought to himself.

Slowly, ensuring that he made no mistakes, the boy slowly placed the little finger of his left hand under the light.

“Ouch!” Exclaimed the boy as he quickly moved away from the light.

Wheezing and clutching his finger, the boy looked at the sliver of light with fear etched into his eyes.

‘There’s no f*king way. The light - it burned me. It definitely burned me.’ Looking at his finger, he saw something that made even less sense. His finger, which was originally on fire, was now no longer burning and was instead healing at a very rapid pace. Seeing this, only one thought ran through his mind,

‘I’m a vampire.’

‘I’m really a vampire.’

“I’m a vampire!” , shrieking out loud, the boy jumped in joy, before calming down once again.

‘But wait - being a vampire is nice, but vampires are usually the villains. They are always hunted down and killed, so that’s probably the case in this world also. I can’t bet on the fact that this world is nice and inclusive of vampires… Information, I need information right now.’

Knowing that his next step had to be to find information, he quickly made his way to the bookshelf on the opposite side of the room, being extra careful to avoid the light falling inside the room.

Present:

Staring at the ceiling, the boy simply lay on the bed, thinking of what to do next.

‘Well, let's make a list of what I know about this world. I know this world has a different language, since the book was written in unrecognisable characters. And yet somehow I already know the language, which means that I probably have some of this body’s memories.’

‘However,’ Kho thought, bringing his hand to his chest, where his heart should be.

‘I feel a heartbeat in my chest, so I guess I’m not a dead vampire? A hot blooded vampire? Now isn’t that interesting. Seems like I can’t blindly use my knowledge of webnovels in this world.’

- Knock Knock

Suddenly, a knock resounded through the room. Hearing the knock, the boy sprang out of his bed and slowly made his way to the door.

-Knock Knock Knock

Another sharp few knocks echoed through the room, and the boy quickly reached the door before the person outside knocked again. Swinging open the door, the boy simply hoped in his heart that he didn't end up inside the human empire.
