"Interesting it knew what the two skills did just by looking at them, just what are these things up top it's much different than it's status and what's a template?".
Infected template reserved for units that had been infected and underwent morphing of biomass whereas the actual template is used for pure form fleshphage, note once a template of any kind is made it can't be changed but can be removed. Tier how strong a creature is the higher the tier the stronger the monster tho tier aren't everything. Tier level due to your uniqueness the system applies to you differently making it so you have to level up your template tier 10 times in order to progress and while you yourself has no tier your units do.
"So that's what they are simple but understandable good but it not having a tier itself may be problematic, looking back at the unnamed unit it came to a realization....it had no name so what should it call itself?.
It couldn't help but struggle before coming to a conclusion, it needed a name not to simple nor something overused and it shouldn't be overly long perhaps nexus will do yes nexus, it doesn't know where it got those words from but just this word feels just right".
Name has been obtained you will be referred to as nexus for now on.
"Wondeful no longer is it nameless now it next step is to wait the only thing it can do right at the moment".
[Commencing test]
"That was quick surprisingly quick, the floor of it's prison opened up revealing 6 platforms each one higher than the last and small in surface area as well the last one having two dead rats instead and both of them were as small as the rat it infected before fusing it to the big one.
Putting this body to the test, it went to the lowest two first scaling them easily just for the third one to have a spike in difficulty as it was almost half the size of it's host body and was a bit slippery almost causing nexus to fall a couple of times before it was able to get a good grip and move on to the other platform.
The fourth one caused nexus great trouble due to it small surface combined with it wobbling and moving back and forth causing nexus to fall and crash onto the floor but sustained no damage luckily, getting up it redid the platforms 6 times and this time on it seventh try was better as it got a more firm grip and was able to balance out.
with a leap it finally reached the last platform and in the end the prize tho it didn't want to fuse them to the main body so it would simply infect them instead seeing this as more of a number advantages.
Nexus pushed the bodies off the platform before getting off it as well as the virus bit the rats while simultaneously activating it's skill causing a warm feeling to flow through it host body and into the rats, now to just wait which may take a couple of hours but it'll hopefully be worth it and should expand it knowledge".

[Commencing next test]
"The platforms went back into the ground and were replaced by a platform with a glass cube that contained 3 rats this time and had 3 different shaped holes on three of it sides, looking around nexus was stuck on what it was suppose to do it tried to break the glass but it was too tough and it didn't know what to put in the shapes, the celling above the cube opened up and dropped 3 shapes onto the ground almost hitting nexus with one of them, looking at the shapes it understood and took the 3 sided one and dragged it towards one of the holes on the left of the cube and push it through the hole, for once nexus felt this feeling of pride with how quickly it solved the puzzle.
Moving on the other holes weren't that difficult either and in no time the cube was opened giving it even more rats to infect so without a further to do it got to work as usual while waiting for the next test.

4 hours later was how long it took for the test and there multitude to end and 4 hours for the bodies to be fully infected something nexus will have to think of later when a wave of memories hit the virus like a hammer the exact moment the test ended rendering nexus immobile as it knowledge of the lab and the things it held in store expanded, one of which was the number of floors now being a total of 5 and it was on the lowest.
This would be problematic given the security having weapons that would destroy this body easily and another issue is that it doesn't know what's outside despite it searching the memories it got since all of the rats were raised in the lab.
It'll deal with that issue later right now same goes for why it haven't gotten a level either because infecting things don't provide exp or they do but not very much, it could feel a connection to the infected rats a copy of itself was in each of them something that should've felt weird simply felt natural to nexus looking over to them they all stood up and stand still unliving and devoid of motion awaiting nexus orders but at the moment it had none".
[Commencing combat test]
"Perhaps not, as the floor opened up again this time instead of it being more rats it was some sort of green creature?
it was short around 4ft sporting a long bumpy nose and a hideous face with a deformed body the arms and legs of this creature were disproportionate giving it a hobble as it looked around the room before locking eyes on it and the other infected units the creature gave a surprised look if you ignore the big beady eyes and wrinkled face.
It ran towards them despite the fact that one of the rats is a mutated monstrosity and by ran it was more of a hobble jog given it body structure, wasting no time nexus had the infected rats spread out easily surrounding this hideous being as it got the main body ready for a fight since it was the main target.
The creature leaped at nexus it bumpy clawed hands raised and mouth opened wide showing rotting teeth, not holding back it met it leap with a leap of it own slashing it bone claws aiming for the head, the two sides clashing as the both of them tumbled to the ground but the battle was over in mere seconds with nexus removing it claws from the creatures face already having infected the body, with another command the rats and nexus itself pulled the body to the corner of the room where they stopped and settled down.
Ding!
[Level up]
Ding!
[Scratch leveled up]
Very anticlimatic but it's better that than risking losing this body since none of the other rats were strong enough to face the enemy, wait it was a idiot it should've used numbers on the enemy instead of engaging in a 1v1 but then again the rats wouldn't affect the battle that much and might've hindered nexus because all it would need to do is pick the rats up and throw them at nexus though that depended on its intelligence something it may have lacked.
Either way it would still have to play the waiting game given it circumstance but as long as it got more mass from these test then maybe it could create something to assist in it future escape only time would tell".

Gobbloids not to be confused with goblins are green deformed hideous monsters that came to be by unknown means some believe they are a world curse brought upon the world by a god being a dick for no reason while others believe they were the result of very poorly done selective breeding and inter breeding between multiple compatable races that through multiple generations created these freaks.
Gobbloids are KOS due to them being vermin thanks to their very rapid reproduction violent nature requiring females of other races to reproduce and them becoming nuisances once they form into a hoard and start attacking settlements, there is no way to eat or prepare a gobbloids because of how inedible they are and have no body part that's worth any money.
They are incredible stupid and very easy to kill rarely living long enough to become a tier two let alone a three unlike goblins that despite them also being a pain in the ass are able to be much bigger threats.
Now if you excuse me we are going to start another campaign in hopes of getting rid of these damn parasites.
