After Schooled

After Schooled

I woke up in a dark room, with cold hard tiles pressing against my back and in pain. I ached everywhere. My head hurt the most. I also kept smelling chlorine, which didn’t help my throbbing head.

“Oh, you’re awake again,” Ria said apathetically. She sat on a chair looking down at me. Her clothes looked different, and her hair was a little damp. Her braids looked nice though.

“Again?”

“You’ve been in and out of consciousness.”

“I have?”

“Quick question. What color’s the sky?” Ria asked.

I scoffed, what kind of question was that. The sky was the color of the sky. Has she never seen the sky? “Obviously green,” I said, confidently.

Ria let out a tired sigh. “Still delirious. That bitch really did a number on you.”

“Yeah, I totally won. You should have seen me. I was amazing.” I boasted.

“Cornelius-”

“Corey. No Corey with a K. Korey.”

Ria sighed.

“Listen, Korey, when I found you in the restroom. You were hurt really badly and covered in your own urine.” She gently explained.

“Why would she pee on me.” I mused. “No wait, she wasn’t a she. She was a he. Does that mean Vincent is actually a she?” I was awed by the sudden realization I made. Sometimes I really impress myself.

“I see, so you’re still going to be a handful.” She said critically.

“Noooo. I’m a good boy.” I smiled.

“My partner’s been tailing you all day and I’ve been looking after you since your beating. Do you have any idea what you’ve put us through?”

I shook my head. I think. All I knew was that I finally had a tail. I’ve always wanted one.

“The first time you woke up. You wouldn’t stop babbling. Yapping nonstop about Shakey's. After you finally settled down, you couldn’t stand the smell of your own piss so you ran off to the pool and threw yourself in it. Only to nearly drown because you can’t swim. I got you out but then you took off all your clothes and jumped back in because you said you were cold. So I save your naked ass, again. Dry you off, with my towel no less. All while you try to braid my wet hair. You know I’ve missed three classes because of you.”

Oh no. Ria saw my pee-pee. Mommy said I’m supposed to show people my pee-pee, and daddy said to always protect your pee-pee from girls. I hope Ria doesn’t tell them.

“Ria, I’m sorry for being bad. You’re really nice and pretty too.”

“That’s sweet, Korey. Just try to control yourself okay. I’m tired and stressed.”

Note to self. Ria needs hug.

“Where are we?” I wondered out loud, staring up at the ceiling filled with tiny holes.

“An empty classroom, I teleported us into. I tried to take you to the nurse’s office. But, you started crying when I told you we were going to the nurse’s office. So I brought you here instead.”

Indeed, medical professionals are evil.

“Wow Ria you can teleport and you’re pretty. Will you marry me?”

“Is that your terrible attempt in asking me out.”

“Oh you’re right. We should go out first. Hey Ria will you be my boyfriend.”

“No.”

“Please.”

“No.”

“Pretty please with sprinkles and marshmallows on top.”

“I’ll think about it. But only if you stop harassing me.”

“Okay.”

I felt uncomfortable lying on the floor so I sat up. I hadn’t noticed I was covered by a red towel until half the towel fell down from my chest. My pee-pee was still covered, so that was good.

“Please don’t remove the towel. I’ve seen enough of your penis today.”

“Don’t worry I’m not supposed to show my pee-pee to anyone,” I said solemnly.

“Shit, how hard did Eva fuck you up.”

“I’m magic so I’ll be okay.”

“Are you even recovering?”

“Cornelius Sage please come to the attendance. Your mother is here to take you home.” The intercom blared.

“Who’s that?”

“You Korey.”

“Oh. Then I better go.” I was about to stand up but Ria held me firmly. Then pointed to the towel. I nodded and tied the towel to my waist as a sumo wrestler would. “Where’s my clothes?” I asked Ria, she had the look of abject disgust on her face for some reason.

“Over there.” She pointed.

My clothes were oddly dry. Most likely a magical reason for why they were. I was dressing myself fine until Ria stopped me. She insisted on helping me put my clothes on. But I don’t think she did a good job. Everyone knows tags were supposed to be on the outside.

Although I knew she was wrong, I did what she told me to. Because it was a nice thing to do.

Like a gentleman, Ria walked me to the attendance office. I really wanted to explore but she wouldn’t let me. I think as my boyfriend she should have indulged me. However, I knew she loved me because her hand never left mine. She held on tightly as if we were star-crossed lovers.

My mommy and big sister were waiting near the office when we came. Ria still hadn’t let go of me.

“Hi mommy.” I waved with my other hand.

“Hi, Mrs. Sage I’m Ria. I found your son in this state. I don’t know if he has a concussion or not but he’s definitely delirious. I think you should get him to a H O S P I T A L.” She explained, politely.

“Ria took care of me. Even though I was a bad boy. She’s really nice.”

“Oh, baby are you alright? Thank you for taking care of him, Ria”

“OW!” Mommy touched one of my boo-boos.

“What happened to him?” My big sister asked.

“I think he fell,” Ria said.

“Yup six times.”

“You fell six times!” Mommy said incredulously.

“Hey, Korey why don’t you show us how many times you fell with your hands,” Ria said nicely.

I showed them ten fingers. They had a look of worry, which was weird since I was fine. I felt something wet come down to my lips. I think I was leaking. So I checked my pants, but they were dry so that wasn’t it.

Mommy grabbed some tissue from her purse and pressed them to my nose.

The leaking eventually stopped.

“Ashlyn grab your brother we’re talking him to the hospital.”

“No. I don’t want to go to the witch doctor’s house.”

“No. They’re taking you to Shakey's, Korey. You like Shakey's right.”

“I do.” I agreed. Then hugged Ria, and told her I’d see her tomorrow.

Ria told Ashlyn to hold on to me tightly. She also said, to be a good boy or I wouldn’t get any Shakey’s.

I think I was a bad boy because we didn’t go to Shakey's, instead, we went to the witch doctor’s house.
