Chapter 3 - A Monumental Realization

Chapter 3 - A Monumental Realization

Having felt and witnessed the various activities those around him experienced, Eli was surprised by the overbearing and foreign feeling of envy that suddenly overcame him.

He was always indifferent to such minor and minute activities, so why has this feeling enveloped him? Although he felt confused, he didn't necessarily dislike the feeling. He was always an existence that maintained and protected such emotions and experiences for others, but never felt them for himself.

Eli's revelation was than interrupted by a young child sitting next to him while he was partaking in his usual fishing. The child, based on appearance alone, couldn't be older than 7. This wasn't a common occurrence, children and adults alike always avoided Eli, so this was quite the event.

"Can I join you, mister?" asked the child -- Eli, not being a brute, smiled and handed the rod to the child.

This isn't the first time the child has taken interest in Eli's somewhat odd schedule. Afterall, the man simply sits there and fishes for what seems like days without doing much of anything. Any inquisitive child would be curious about this strange man. So, naturally, the child asked, "Say, mister, why are you always sitting here fishing alone?"

This had been the first time anybody had spoken to Eli since he arrived here, so he was naturally a bit taken aback, after a brief pause, Eli looked up at the sky and responded saying,

"boredom, I suppose. It was finally time for a change."

Just as he uttered these words, the waters began to shake and rattle getting stronger by the second. The rod the child was holding was also getting heavier and heavier, almost as if something massive had bitten it.

Right on queue, an enormous fish the size of a medium sized building started to pull on the fishing string. This naturally caused the child to gravitate and be pulled towards the water at an extremely quick pace, the fish jumped outside the water, sending the child into the air with it.

Clicking his tongue in annoyance, Eli jumped towards the fish, kicking it once, which caused the outer layer of it's skin to fly off, instantly eliminating it.

Eli than caught the child mid-air, placing him safely on the ground. It was than that the child thought to himself,

"This was no ordinary man."
