Chapter 3: friends?
Aeon
I opened my eyes without feeling my right arm, I panicked and stood up full of bandages, “woo! Take it easy your wound will open if you move too much.” a person in font of me said. He was normal looking person with blond hair and he looked in his twenties. “Who are you? Where am I?" I asked as I got quickly out of the bed to a position of fighting. "Calm down! If I wanted to hurt you I would've already. My name is Artou I brought you here after I saved you from those hunters. You are healing insanely fast for a human, I am a human too by the way. " he sat on the bed, “if you are a human what are they then? “I asked and he replied "Ah I see, you just arrived to this world so my theory of people getting in different times is true, I got transited 15 years ago." I asked again “transited?"
“It’s what they call here. About every 1000 year a new transition happens. It’s like a game the gods made, the transition is when multiple races habitat another world. Races fight for survival and power and only one race can survive. One of the survivors get to become a god in the end but the rest races will be erased. It’s been 800 years now since the beginning of this transition. Which mean we travelled or crossed about 800 years since the day of the transition."
I tried to understand all these information at once asking anew " what happened to the humans?". and he replied "Unlike us, most of them were taken to another world, the god called it Eden. But a small portion didn't get teleported and got hunted or killed. Any life form from the old world can have their life essence or energy harvested for power, the stronger they are the bigger their value."
"Power?" I asked, "Yes in this world magic is real!" he said before taking a pistol from his pocket. “Eeeh is this your magic? A gun," I said sarcastically, “no I just like guns follow me!" we went outside of a wooden hut in the forest, it was well hidden by branches and bushes and it seemed bigger from the inside. “Look at this!" he pointed at passing flying wolf tree. Circles appeared around his gun and it glowed, he shot the tree creating a hole the size of a truck’s wheel inside it.
“I got us a dinner.” he laughed while skinning the creature.
Magic! It was something I enjoyed seeing, such a thing could exist, and I wanted it too. “How did you do that?" I asked like a little kid seeing his big brother doing a magic trick." not everyone can use the same magic someone else uses, my magic can make weapons stronger."
Every creature has magic even if he doesn't use it, magic is life itself. I thought my magic can be my physical strength. “let me try" I asked him to let me use his gun but I fell to the ground and the blood started dripping from my hand. ” your wound is open I told you to rest."
I never felt this excited since my childhood before my mother’s death, this world maybe can fix me, and maybe I can find an actual normal life here even if it's the furthest normal, but I can finally live a life where I can feel something.
After what seemed like a week, my hand was fully fine, I was still getting used to being left-handed.
"Take this it will hide the aura and the smell of humans. If someone figures you are a human he will probably try to kill or sell you." he gave me some kind of drink, I felt dizzy and stopped feeling like myself after drinking it. ‘Friendship? Is this it’ it was the first idea that came to my mind after I drunk the potion, I was out of character, I never actually cared about friends so what’s the difference why do I feel like this.
“We might be able to get you a new arm."
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
“What? Can magic return my hand?" I asked hoping I can recover it like a lizard’s tail or something “It supposed to, but we are humans. There are no healers who have expertise in human healing. I got the idea to get you a mechanical arm and we can think after that what your next will be." I was thinking just to follow him. I had nowhere to go anyway. He was the only human I met and everyone will kill me if they knew I am human." you will need that mechanical arm, living in this world means you will have to fight no matter how hard you try to avoid it".
We walked for a couple of miles I wasn't getting tired, while Artou did. “Are we there yet?" “No" he answered trying to catch his breath.” can you be a bit slower are you sure you are human?" I was excited to see it. Our destination was a village where there is a friend of Artou can make me a mechanical hand.
We got there. The settlement was just as I had imagined it to be, made of wood and brick, with stores selling all kinds of food and clothing, and fascinating creatures running and wandering around.
Monster hybrids. Creatures that resemble humans but have monster parts, Majin creatures that sprout horns to indicate the power of their magic, and the Greens creatures similar to goblins that have the ability to transform to liquid. They were everywhere in the village, and many of them had weapons. Swords, arrows, spears, and other medieval accessories. Children, ladies, and elderly people were present everywhere, just as they would be in a village on Earth.
“Humans now are called Tranhilyans and Earth's name changed to Tranhilya” Artou said when I was just exploring my surroundings.
He kept providing me bits of knowledge to help me learn more about the world; I can't say I comprehended everything, but it was a start.
There are many other creatures in this new world, including normal and wild demons, elves, Majins, half-monsters, spirits, prayers, greens, and Neons.
Every race tries to survive or to gain power, the most powerful ones are elves and demons, and they kept fighting over land and power throughout the years.
Some races live a hundred, and some are immortal, making them able to live to withstand the end of the transition and fight to the end of it at least.
I left Artou discussing with a shopkeeper about something as I heard the irate voice of someone asking, "Where is my money."
About something.
People were stacking around to watch, a guy with a two small black horns was the one talking. His opponent was a half monster his head was of a crocodile and he was carrying a heavy axe can split a man in two with one hit.
“I can’t give more I have a family to feed” the Halfling answered, he looked afraid of the other Majin. ”That’s none of my business I don’t make the rules I just collect taxes. And as you know if you don’t pay your family will with blood.” The Majin got close and looked at the Halfling that twice his size in the eye.
The Halfling snatched up his axe and declared, "I won't allow you touch my family." I could tell it had been enhanced with magic since it was shining
His strike only caused the earth to tremble; nothing else was touched. He was being followed by the Majin, who teleported behind using magic.
Before assaulting the Majin, the crocodile yelled, "Bastard, confront me like a man." only to see him teleport again and kick him in the back, causing him to fall to the ground.
“leave my family!” the crocodile said with an angry face that got covered with blood after the Majin kept teleporting and kicking him without mercy until the crocodile fell unable to move again.
The Majin chuckled as he continued, "I enjoy it when people choose the hard way". Torturing someone like this is no different from what was in the old world.
“Aeon don’t get involved", Artou said calling for me. We made eye contact when I looked at the Majin and he returned the stare. His icy gaze gave me the chills.
According to Artou, the master guild serves as the equivalent of the government in this world. That Majin was a tax collector for the assassin's guild which is one of many branches of the master guild, which included the adventurer and assassin's guilds...
I couldn't get my thoughts off of that fight; I remembered how fascinating and thrilling using magic was in that battle with those people in the warehouse, and I was itching to engage in combat once more. But even for me, pursuing that Majin would be like committing suicide.
We are present! In front of a crumbling house on the outskirts of the village.
