Professors, Prophecies and a Revelation

Professors, Prophecies and a Revelation

As I walked out the door of my father's office, I couldn't help but wonder about this prophecy...however ridiculous it may be. "Damien...Damien!!!" I sighed, a crease forming on my forehead but a slight smile playing on my lips. That voice was most unmistakenly of my friend and colleague, Trevor. The voice was getting nearer as it echoed behind me but I kept walking forward...just to rile him up a bit. It was fun to see Trevor lose his cool.

"Can't you hear me you smartass!!" Trevor screeched in my ear as he caught up to me, matching my pace, dressed in his usual, too bright, I'm-as-fresh-as-a-daisy clothes.

Me, I'm a bit more goth, I always wore black, my mother did too... I guess I got my sense of style from here.

"Hey, Damien....come back to me man," Trevor said, an edge to his voice, pulling me out of my thoughts.

"I'm sorry...what were you saying?" I said in a much softer tone than him.

With a scowl on his face, he continued, "Ok, just let me know when you start to wander off to fantasyland."

I chuckled hysterically at Trevor's odd sense of humor as he gave me a weird look.

"Anyway...so, Professor Bellashio was really pissed that you didn't attend her class today, you know the drill" and doing a really bad impression of Professor Bellashio, he continued " The history of our ancestors goes back to the first era millions of years ago when only vampires roamed the earth until now, when only a million of us are left, each and every vampire needs to give it's all into the progress of our race and so does Damien, blah blah blah ....so, anyway why didn't u attend our Ancestral history class, you attend ever fucking class", Trevor said, a quizzical look on his face.

I really didn't want to get into all that right now, so I just shrugged my shoulders, "My father called me into his office", I said in a dismissive tone.

"Because....", Trevor said urging me on. Who was I kidding, there was no avoiding Trevor's inquisition. As my shoulders slumped down, I caved and told him all that my father had told me.

He was stunned, to say the least, meaning he was staring at me wide-eyed with his mouth hanging open.

What was so surprising.....it was just some stupid prophecy about some foreign girl.

"Some stupid prophecy!!" Trevor said with indignation. It took me a while to register that I'd just said that out loud.

"Haven't you heard the gossip?"

I gave him a 'Really-dude' look at his rhetorical question.

Trevor took the sign and continued, "Well, every normal person here knows about the prophecy, there have been plenty of rumors going around about some foreign girl being the destruction of our race as Abner prophesied but" he gave what he thought was a dramatic pause but was just an awkward silence.

"There is another sorcerer who prophesied that a girl from the north will unite all the supernaturals to fight against something much greater than ourselves, something we've never even heard of and she'll emerge as our savior ", Trevor said in a matter-of-factly way.

We reached our Prophecy and Predictions class just in time. We took our seats in the front row as all the girls gave me doey-eyed looks, fighting to take the seat next to me...as usual, it really got on my nerves sometimes.

"Tell me you don't actually believe that shit of a prophecy", I said continuing our conversation from earlier.

"There are too many rumors to dismiss it just like that", Trevor said, now looking at the entrance as Professor Tartine entered. We all faced him as he sat down on his 100-year-old chair with his hands on the equally musty table.

"Vamplings, listen up", Professor Tartine began in his grim voice. "Today, we'll be studying Prophecies and how accurate they can be."

Just then Trevor raised his hand, well, well, this is going to be interesting, I said to myself as I supported my chin with one hand and rested my other hand on the desk as my mouth widened with a grin. The Professor nodded at him, an annoyed look on his face.

"Well, Professor", he began in the most orderly fashion.

"Since we're talking about prophecies and their accuracy, I would like to add onto that." The professor urged him to continue, now most definitely intrigued and so was the class as everyone looked at him.

Trevor continued undeterred, " Well, we've all heard about the two opposing prophecies from the two renowned sorcerers Abner and Rhian, so, what I want to know is which one of them is true." I knew about Abner but not Rhian, word around campus was that Rhian dabbled in dark magic and that's why his prophecies always came true.

Then another guy stood up asking the same question as Trevor and soon the whole class joined in.

"Fine...fine, settle down everyone", the Professor said trying to instill some order.

Tartine continued with a resigned nod, " Yes...the prophecies, both of them quite ambiguous are none of your business, the Ascension council is responsible for them and their source which is also none of your business, now, we are going to be studying....." What he said after that tuned out as I was intently listening in on the conversation taking place between the two girls sitting beside me, both talking in hushed voices.

"Did you hear about what Rhian prophecied, God!!! Wouldn't it be something if some ugly northern brutish girl turned out to be our savior, well, that would be utterly ridiculous, don't you think?" The blonde one said excitedly, barely trying to contain her emotions.

The one with the black hair spoke up as she thought over what her friend said, " Yes, that really does sound absurd."Then after a brief pause, the blackhead spoke up hesitantly as I frowned to myself trying to look indifferent to their conversation. "That's not all there is to Rhian's prophecy..." She again paused looking rather timid. "Well...", the blonde one said urging her on, not giving the slightest notice to her friend's uncomfortableness.

"Well, I overheard my father talking to the king", I sighed to myself, my father wasn't exactly a king, he was their protector for he didn't exactly have an empire or an army or a castle, our people always referred to him as the king...out of respect, I suppose.

"They were talking about Rhian's prophecy, well, there's more to it than we know.......Rhian was pretty specific about this northern girl, he even said that she would be from the village of Voracia, with skin as white as the moon and hair as red as the blood of the Feral wolves." She concluded, feeling quite flustered.

The blonde one however wasn't done yet," But why is everyone so focused on Rhian's prophecy and not Abner's and how the hell could he know her friggin hair color, Rhian's prophecy is seeming to be more bogus by the minute and a lot of people on the Ascension Council are siding with Abner, Rhian doesn't have the support. So, why in the world would the king be concerned about Rhian?", finally a sensible question.

With a frown marring my face, I turned this around in my head and came back to the same question again and again. The professor continued to drone about ...something, I couldn't hear him, for my conscious was shouting the same question at me repeatedly, why in the world didn't my father tell me about Rhian? I had to speak to Abner like..... right now.

I stood up on impulse as everyone gave me an odd look including Trevor who looked up at me like I'd grown a horn, I gave him an I'll-explain-later look.

"Yes, Mr. Carson", Professor Tartine looked up beaming at me. I hated this...this attitude, the professors were just so sickly sweet to me, just so they could get on my good side and stand a chance of getting on the council because my father was the king and head of this academy.

"Would you be so kind as to excuse me, Professor, I have some business to attend to." I said, with great conviction as I walked out of the class, not waiting for a response as I heard him mumble something like " Of course, of course", but I couldn't be sure, since I was already out the door, heading towards the building where the sorcerers and sorceresses were taught, with the intention of talking to Abner, he was the only one I could trust.

I walked through the corridor, passing several classes until I reached the staircase.

I walked out of the building and started jogging along on the green grass, I could feel the cold wind flowing from the north but my mind was swirling with questions to pay any heed to the wind, as the thought of a certain feral redhead crept into my mind but I immediately shook it off, frowning at myself.

Bella's POV

I felt relatively happy, I guess since my stomach wasn't rumbling from hunger anymore, although I was freezing my ass off, at least there was some food in me. Hmm...I was feeling just....content, there...I said it.

But there was just this one teeny-tiny problem, nothing serious...just that I didn't have the life-nurturing liquid without which no life would exist ---water. The little water I'd brought with me wasn't enough to last even a day, I'm surprised it lasted for two. I rubbed my temple vigorously as my other hand dangled from the branch. My legs flat on the branch, my body in a sleeping position but sleep eluded me.

My jaw clenched as I thought this over, water, well, I had to find some source of water like...a lake or a spring...even if I did find a lake, it would most probably be frozen...this was hopeless. Survival just seemed so.....impossible.

I felt my eyes brim with tears, no...I couldn't cry, all I had right now was me, I couldn't be weak now.

There was no question of my parents rescuing me, this wasn't the first time some child had wandered into the northern forest, the parents would just mourn for their son or daughter but none would even think of actually going into the forest and bringing their child back, those fucking rumors had made the people so fucking afraid. So there's that.

Who the fuck was I kidding, I'll be dead in a couple of days, a couple of weeks if I'm lucky, what was I thinking....that some blonde prince would come to save me, his princess, on his magnificent horse and we'd ride out into the sunshine. I laughed at the absurdity of that thought.

See, even when I know my end is near, I can still manage some pretty good humor. That's when my eyelids started feeling heavy all of a sudden, and my brain shut down, as I fell into deep sleep, the thought of a tall, blonde man lacing my dreams as my lips curved up into a slight smile.

Damien's POV

'Hey, can I come in?" I said as I knocked on the door of Abner's office.

"Of course, after all, who would have the courage to defy a prince's command." He replied in mock humor, saluting me as he stood next to a big metal container, mixing something...as usual with a lapel in his hand.

"So, what do you want?" He said abruptly, still mixing something with the lapel still in his hand, looking straight at me.

"How do you know I want something?" I said a puzzled look on my face.

"Damien, I've known you since the day you were born and that is precisely 26 years, in all those years, you only came to me when you wanted something."He said giving me a sardonic grin.

Any other day, I would've loved a friendly banter but this wasn't any other day.

"Ok, it's......about your prophecy about that girl...." Abner cut me off mid-sentence, " I know what prophecy you're talking about." He said giving me a disheartened look. "And about what Rhian prophecied...", I started again but he cut me off...again.

"I was wrong", Abner stated.

"About what?" I said, growing more exasperated by the minute. Could he for once speak like a normal being instead of speaking in short, cryptic sentences.

"My prophecy, it's...wrong, Rhian is right." Why did he always have to speak in riddles, couldn't he just get straight to the point sometimes but nooo, he was fixated on maintaining his mysterious aura, is that even a real thing, I mean....wait, what did he just say, no, he couldn't have said that.

Seeing the look of pure shock on my face, he continued," Yes, it's true, I read the stars wrong, I misinterpreted their position, Rhian read them right, a girl with flaming red hair, with the blood of the night wolf and the great sorceress Akira flowing through her veins, born in the village of Voracia of the north will emerge as our savior and lead us into war against something much greater than ourselves."

I was dumbfounded, that sounded unbelievable to my own ears. But...if Abner has confirmed it, then it had to be true. My legs felt a bit wobbly as my breathing alternated, I needed to sit down.

Trying to keep my voice steady, I spoke up, "Have you told my father that?"

"No."

Well, that was expected and even if he did tell him, he would most probably be hung for there was too much hatred in our hearts for wolf blood.

That's when I burst out, " No, you're wrong, there is no way that some half-wolf, half sorceress will lead us, we'll stand a much better chance on our own. I'd rather die sooner than support some stupid village girl's claim to be our leader based on some bogus prophecy. And you know what? ! Your little savior will very soon be dead, my uncle is headed to the north to hunt her down and will return in no time victorious." I completed seething with anger, hatred for the half-blood lacing my thoughts as a look of pure horror crossed Abner's face on my last statement.

I chuckled evilly, regaining my composure, "What are you so horrified about anyway, if she really is the savior, she'll rally the Feral beasts and my uncle won't be able to kill her, in which case, I'll be happy to fill in for him."

I stormed out, slamming the door behind me before he could say anything. What the hell was wrong with Abner, had he gone fucking insane? How could he even think that some wolf blood could ever be our savior, they hated us and we hated them, our enmity went a long way, centuries have passed, many things have faded away into nothingness but our enmity hasn't, and for good reason.

Even if my uncle failed, I would be the first in line to taste her blood.
