Chapter 5: The Source of the Crisis

Chapter 5: The Source of the Crisis

As Lin Xi's consciousness gradually cleared, she found herself standing on a vast grassland. The sight before her stirred a deep emotion within.

The grassland stretched endlessly, the blades of grass shimmering silver under the moonlight. In the distance, the outlines of forests and mountains were faintly visible under the glow of the Milky Way, as if they were guardians of this pristine land. Despite the spacesuit isolating her from the outside, she could still feel the warmth and peace from her memories.

"This scene… It can't be. If I'm not mistaken, this looks like the place where I grew up—Morigen." Lin Xi's voice transmitted through the communicator, tinged with a hint of incredulous self-mockery.

Michael Johnson was stunned, his gaze still fixed on the dazzling Milky Way above. He tried to cover his unease with humor, speaking in a deliberately light tone, "Lin Xi, are you sure we haven't been brainwashed by aliens who then built us a custom paradise here?"

Ethan quickly scanned the surroundings, trying to find a rational explanation. His voice was filled with confusion and disbelief, "Wait a minute… Did you say this is Morigen? Aren't we on the Moon? This can't be Earth, right? Could this be some kind of… surreal illusion?"

Alyia Salvador's expression grew serious as she quickly connected this sudden information with her theories. Her voice remained elegant and calm, but the shock was evident, "Morigen… If this is Earth, then we might be facing more than just an illusion. I think Lin Xi might be right, but this isn't simply returning to Earth. We might have passed through some kind of quantum siphon tunnel, entering a reality where both time and space are distorted."

Michael tried to ease the tension, his tone uneasy yet laced with sarcasm, "Alyia, if you tell me we're currently in the conclusion section of a thesis, I might actually consider jumping out of this dream."

Lin Xi's heartbeat quickened as memories flooded back. She suddenly realized the gravity of the situation, her voice trembling with disbelief, "No, this isn't a dream. This is Morigen… I remember every blade of grass here, this grassland, I played here as a child… If this isn't Earth, then I really don't know what it could be."

Ethan gradually gathered his thoughts but still couldn't fully accept the reality. His voice was slightly tense, "Lin Xi, if this really is Morigen, then we need to figure out where we are. Why are we here? Every second could be a clue, but… this is so hard to understand."

Alyia frowned slightly, and her inner rationality and sense of responsibility led her to quickly make a judgment. Her voice carried authority and calmness, "Whether this is an illusion or a quantum tunnel, we need to stay calm, find the truth, and ensure our safety."

Michael shrugged, trying to calm his complicated emotions through action, "Looks like we need to figure out the rules of this 'dream'. Let's hope none of us get 'eliminated'." He glanced around before breaking into a smile, speaking lightly and with a hint of mockery, "Alyia, I have to say, if we really uncover the mystery of this quantum siphon tunnel, your Nobel Prize is definitely in the bag—at least in physics, or maybe chemistry? Who knows, maybe a double award!"

Alyia raised one eyebrow slightly, a barely perceptible smile tugging at the corner of her mouth. Her tone remained calm, "Michael, Nobel Prizes aren't handed out so easily. But if this discovery is real, you might end up with a mention in the acknowledgments of my paper."

Lin Xi couldn't help but laugh, her voice light with a hint of teasing, "Michael, looks like you better contribute some scientific results quickly if you want to be listed on Alyia's paper."

Michael sighed dramatically, "Ah, I suppose I better start performing. How about this, Alyia, I help you organize the data, and you give me a footnote in the paper—how does that sound, a win-win?"

Ethan chuckled lightly and shook his head, "Michael, don't forget, writing a paper is serious academic work; it can't be as casual as repairing thrusters. But, I do support you applying for another award, maybe… the 'Most Humorous Team Member' award?"

This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.

Alyia nodded slightly, a hint of lightness in her eyes, "Indeed, if there were such an award, you'd be the top candidate, Michael. But right now, what we need most is to make sure each of us can safely return to the Moon. Then we can think about awards."

Michael pretended to think it over, then smiled, "Alright, alright, first we survive, then we talk about awards. After all, without us brave explorers, who would unveil the secrets of the universe?"

Hearing this, Lin Xi seemed to relax a bit, playfully adding, "Then it's settled. Once we're back, we'll all go collect our awards together. As for the paper authorship, Alyia, you can't go back on your word."

Alyia smiled slightly and nodded, "Don't worry, Lin Xi. Once we're back safely, I'll seriously consider your proposal. But until then, we still have a long way to go."

Behind them, not far away, stood a tall "door," seemingly floating in the air, made of semi-transparent energy. The outline of the door emitted a faint glow, with light flowing like water around the frame, sometimes converging into complex geometric patterns, sometimes pulsating gently.

Lin Xi turned around, her gaze drawn to the door, her voice filled with curiosity and confusion, "What is that? I've never seen anything like it… It looks like some sort of entrance."

Michael stared at the energy door, his eyes full of surprise, "Wow, cooler than any sci-fi movie. If this door really brought us here, I'd give it the 'Best Portal' award."

Ethan carefully observed the surroundings of the door, trying to analyze it from a physical perspective, "This door is made entirely of energy, but the form of energy is unfamiliar to us. It looks like some kind of higher-dimensional technology."

Alyia stepped closer, gazing at the door, deep in thought. Her voice remained calm, but carried a tone of deep contemplation, "This might be the 'entrance' of a quantum siphon tunnel, a theoretical phenomenon based on quantum entanglement and spacetime distortion. Under extreme conditions, similar 'doors' might form in the universe, connecting different spaces and times."

Lin Xi still couldn't believe it, but the shock inside her forced her to confront this reality, "So, this door… really brought us back to Earth?"

Alyia nodded, her tone authoritative, "Yes, at least from what we can tell, this quantum siphon tunnel indeed brought us to another spatial dimension, or a place familiar to us but with warped spacetime. It might have formed naturally, or it could have been created by some higher technology we don't yet understand."

Michael quipped with a hint of sarcasm, "So not only are we explorers, but we're also 'time travelers' now? This story is starting to sound more like a blockbuster movie. But Alyia, you'd better make sure we can get back safely."

Alyia smiled gently, her tone soft but firm, "Science teaches us rationality, but when faced with phenomena that defy common sense, humanity reminds us not to ignore the call of the heart. I'll do my best to find the truth and ensure our safe return. But before that, we must calmly face all of this and find a balance between science and humanity."

Ethan continued to observe the energy flow of the door, his voice filled with rational thought, "There might be more hidden behind this door that we haven't anticipated. We need to study it more deeply, figure out how it works, so we can find our way back."

Lin Xi nodded in agreement, her tone carrying a hint of determination, "We've come this far, we can't give up now. No matter how unbelievable the path ahead is, we must find a way back."

The atmosphere gradually shifted from initial shock and unease to rationality and determination. They knew that despite everything before them defying common sense, they had to face it, using science and wisdom to uncover the mysteries behind this mysterious door.

In front of the flickering "door," the team members stood on the vast grassland, the Milky Way hanging quietly in the night sky, surrounded by silence.

Alyia quickly activated the environmental analyzer, her gaze locked on the screen. The data on air composition, temperature, and pressure appeared one by one. Her voice transmitted through the communicator, calm and firm, "Oxygen and nitrogen levels are normal, temperature and pressure match Earth standards. The environment here… is almost identical to Earth's."

Ethan verified the data, nodding slightly, "No obvious risk factors. It's safe to remove the helmets."

Michael unclipped his helmet, took a deep breath, and smiled, "The air is so fresh, it makes me doubt we're still on Earth." The others followed suit, feeling the familiar air; in that moment, they seemed to blend into this world.

Lin Xi removed her helmet and took a deep breath of the familiar air. Everything around her felt like a distant memory. Just as she was beginning to calm her inner turmoil, a figure in the distance made her heart race.

It was a familiar figure—tall and slender, with a hint of familiar melancholy. Lin Xi's heartbeat quickened, memories flooded her mind. It was her father—the figure she had dreamt of countless times, now clear as if she could reach out and touch him. Time seemed to freeze, she could hardly believe her eyes, fearing that all of this was just a cruel illusion.

"The environment here… is almost identical to Earth's." Alyia spoke slowly, and the sudden appearance of a familiar figure in the distance made Lin Xi's heartbeat quicken, "Is that… Dad?"
