Raia tried to do what they asked her, she was very happy to learn new things, more so difficult things that would give her an edge against the other kids at the academy.
She used the skill, manipulating mana was infinitely more simple like this than doing it without the skill like she tried to before, now doing it felt natural, so she took a bit of raw mana from the outside and mixed it with her natural mana and it became elemental.
After that she created the armor.
She tried to move but the armor started collapsing so she stopped, “That was the difficult part” she thought, and so she tried moving the mana with her but it required too much concentration to do; she tried willing it to follow her movements but it lagged behind.
Then she had an idea, why not make the mana always maintain a certain distance from her body; her armor would always be at the right places without lagging behind, and it wouldn't require that much concentration since it was a single simple command.
She tried, and it was a success, it was still extremely difficult because elemental mana was wild; it wasn't her mana which she could control at a whim because it was hers it was raw mana changed to elemental, and it wanted to go wild, to return to being raw.
She could now move, but it was still too difficult to do other activities that require intense concentration while maintaining the armor.
At that moment genius struck, why not spend a little mana to create two very thin layers one inside and one outside of the armor made of her mana so that she could better control the shape.
In this way she could also more easily control the density, if before she had to concentrate on the entire raw mana now she could focus on the two layers and only use raw mana as a filling.
She tried and she succeeded, the armour now took a lot less concentration, still more than circulating mana but with repeated use she could make the process a little more efficient, levels would certainly help with the amount of concentration needed, but right now she was just happy to have succeeded, she used about a 100 mana to do it but it would regenerate in little time.
“Oh god…” Mira sighed, “What did you do this time? I have never seen armor done that way.”
“Wait, are you telling me that the way you do armor isn't by telling mana to always stay at a certain distance from your body?”
“No we don't, we move it.
What you just did will revolutionise the entire concept of mana armor.
The reason we only did small spots was precisely because of the difficulty in moving the armor.
This way everyone could have full armor made of mana with a lot less concentration needed, but you didn't just do that.
Am I right Raia?”
“Yes, I also thought of creating two very thin layers of my mana on the inside and the outside of the armor, so that I can contain the elemental turned mana inside without actually concentrating on controlling it.
This way is also easier to thicken the armor or make it denser with mana.”
“Raia I already told you this today but you are a genius, you know that right.
You are 5 and you already revolutionised an entire field of research
We will let everyone know, we will publish your findings with me and the captain as backers so that everyone knows it's real.
You will be famous, believe me.”
8At this moment Raia couldn't know that, but her discovery would in the future save a very important someone's life.
3 years later
“Good morning Raia, you know what day it is?”
“Yes captain, it's my 8th birthday.”
“And do you know what we will do today?”
“Yes I'll get my adventures licence.”
“Good now let's move while I explain what you will do in a more specific manner.
So the gist of it is that you will take the exam, to not disclose your actual strength it will be a private exam, that means that the people's waiting for their turn and the guilds scouts will be asked to stay or leave the room, if they stay they will be bound by a non disclosure contract to not reveal what they saw.
The only thing they can reveal is if they believe your rating was fair or not to do that you will need a recommendation or some special circumstances, are you following till now?”
“Yes I am.”
“Perfect so the exam work this way, you will fight an examiner at the platinum level, he will match the rating you are trying to get with the maximum being gold there aren't any problems; if he thinks you deserve the rating you are going to get it, if he doesn't he is going to give you a lower one.
We are going for silver so try OK, don't remove the blindfold but at least try.
If you took it off gold wouldn't be out of the question but we are not here to publicise your actual strength but only your apparent one also don't deactivate the enchantments on the blindfold only the sense dulling if you need and I wouldn't be surprised if you did so don't worry about doing it ok?”
“Yes I understand.”
The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
They continued with some light chatting till they reached the Adventurer Guild.
When they entered no one paid them any mind until when they arrived at the counter the captain asked to see the guild master and the clerk a young girls after asking for identification cause not many people have the credentials to see the guild master on a whim and seizing the symbol of the royal guards captain stuttered
“O-Of course Royal guard captain Olaf r-right this way”
Everyone turned their head to the counter and started murmuring.
“Is she a relative? Or his disciple.”
“No it can't be, she is too young.”
“But what if it is I need to see her exam.”
“What do you mean exam? Are you telling me she isn't registered?”
“Didn't you notice she didn't have a tag with her.”
Everyone muted and they all went to the exam arena, this would be the second most watched exam in the guild history, the most watched wouldn't come for decades.
When Raia and the captain arrived at the door of the guild master and the girl that accompanied them knocked.
“Guild Master, the captain of the royal guards, is here to see you.”
“Let them in.”
She opened the door and then she disappeared, she absolutely didn't want to be there.
“Hi Rachel, how are you doing?”
"I'm good, how are you Olaf?”
“Better than yesterday.”
“Always, you always say that phrase.
From school times, I always heard you say the same thing.
Now care to tell me why you are here, even though I probably know the answer already seeing the girl you brought with you.”
“I am here to let her take a private exam.”
“Ok, you hold the qualifications to ask such a thing so yes she can take it but, I want to test her myself.”
“Why would you Rachel, seeing your desk you are quite full of work.”
“Because I can, and I want to see what she can do, you know, the legendary inventor of the full armor technique and the most famous child of her generation both in a good and in a bad way sadly.
Oh… she won't be running for a set rank, the better she performs the better she will place, if she somehow managed to place platinum, she will get platinum.”
“Ok Raia, change of plans go all out.”
“Yes, I'll do it.”
When they entered the arena used for the examination the first thing the guild master said was, “Everyone this is a private examination you know the drill stay and sign or get out, quickly!”
That exclamation got everything on end.
It wasn't every day that you saw the guild master at the arena moreover for a private examination and this impatient.
After everyone either got out or signed the contract she announced, “Today I will conduct the examination myself as we have a special guest, the captain of the royal guards that is accompanying his disciple Raia, who will have her examination.
This will be an open rank examination so the better she performs the higher her rank will be, there are no limitations, do you all understand?”
“Yes ma’am!” they all responded in unison.
“Now Raia come with me please.”
“Yes ma'am.”
She accompanied Raia to her spot in the arena, where she left her then, she took her spot and waited for Raia to prepare herself, but instead she heard her say;
“I would like to ask for one round while blindfolded and one to further test the new magic I created, what it do will be a surprise, the reason is that most times unless I really need to go all out, I'll not take my blindfold off I'm blind from birth so…
I also want to test how good I am against an opponent I have never fought.”
“Testing your limits huh, I like it let's do it.”
“I will be the referee for this fight.
Are both opponents ready?”
Said a voice coming from the sidelines.
Before responding Raia took the weights off and threw them to the side she also deactivated every dampening effect on the blindfold now it was only there, for show and, for habit, then they said in unisom;
“Yes we are.”
“So let's start!”
After the referee had given the start, Raia darted off her position.
Given that her opponent used a spear by the way her body was positioned, and the spell she activated that covered the spear in elemental mana to probably enhance durability and sharpness.
“Closing the distance already, you know what to do or are you guessing?”
Raia didn't respond.
When she was in striking distance Rachel thrust her spear towards Raia's head at the speed of mid silver, but she easily dodged with minimal movements while continuing her advance.
Now was her turn to be in striking distance so she did a drawing upwards slash and obviously Rachel dodged.
She started backpedaling to gain distance, but Raia was hell bent on staying close, so she followed with a downward thrust to the back of Rachel's leg to halt her momentum because of the dodge; but instead Rachel jumped.
Raia was not surprised by the move so in a split second she sheated her sword, and then she drew it in an upward slash and Rachel being in the air couldn't dodge but she still tried.
She prepared a spell to propel herself sideways but Raia used {Negation} on it.
The attack didn't hit.
Rachel used the long reach of her spear to plant it on the ground and dodge, then she managed to retreat and distance herself.
They went at it for a while, with Rachel steadily increasing her strength and both never getting hit.
After a few minutes Raia didn't follow her anymore, instead she asked “How was I?”
“For now low gold is not out of the question, and you are clearly not going all out.
You definitely have some attack spells but you are not using them.
You also aren't using your main sword.
This one clearly isn't as perfectly balanced as the other one. It seems heavier, am I wrong?”
“No you are not, for attack magic we both know that with my style of combat Anti Magic attack spells are not a good match but I'm working on it.
As for the second one this is actually my main sword, it's heavy because I want it to be heavy.
This is still training, the only reason I removed the vest and the senses dampeners on the blindfold is because if I didn't silver would have been the maximum I would have been able to attain, in 2 years I would have had to grind gold and reach elite.
Now I am already there, or close enough to have quests that can pose a real challenge so I can focus on training instead of focusing on grinding ranks, something that I don't have time for.
The quests I would take in lower ranks would certainly make me rank up in two years, but they definitely wouldn't be good as training.
Now, please decide my rank based on what you have already seen and not what you are going to see now.”
“Why?”
“You'll see.”
“Everyone, this is top secret information.
The test is concluded, get out.”
After everyone got out, with a little difficulty, some people thought they had enough power to be allowed to remain.
They were quickly shushed when they came to know that the only reason their guild master could know was because an exception was made.
“Raia, you're good, no one's here.”
“Perfect.”
Rachel was confused to say the least, the fact that she normally couldn't know what Raia was about to show her was startling and concerning, she had enough clearance for just about anything, she was basically a general in terms of military rankings before the Monsters appeared.
What she saw was peculiar.
Raia took off the blindfold and opened her eyes.
They were completely white, you couldn't see her iris nor her pupil.
It was completely white and it was unsettling.
But what she did after even more so, a spell circle she had never seen appeared and duplicated.
Shortly after it changed size and became extremely small.
It went and touched her eyes and the white part changed colour and became transparent like the one from normal peoples, her eyes were silver and they were mesmerising.
Rachel shook her head to clear her thoughts and think about what just happened,
“What the fuck was that?”
She asked extremely shocked, so much that she was shaking.
“That would be my newest creation, and a project witch I have worked on for the past 3 years and thanks to my blessing now it exist.”
Rachel took a deep breath and asked,
“Is that it, cause yes, changing the colour of a body part is extremely concerning, it is not something I wouldn't have the clearance to know?”
“It is not it, this spell does not change the color of body parts, it changes the body itself, permanently!”
Raia demonstrated it by: changing her height, making her arms extremely long and worst of all growing horns and wings.
She then returned to her normal appearance and said.
“See this is the reason.”
Rachel nearly collapsed right then and there, this was not something that should exist, it was absurd that a human created something like that.
“How did you create something like that no one would let you do that.”
“Well about that, I wanted to surprise my magic teacher by creating something to cure blindness, but I screwed up and created this.
It can't regrow limbs or anything of that sort mind you, something has to exist within your body to be able to be changed, you can't change an arm in a hand or anything of that sort.
But still it would be disastrous if someone came to know about it and discovered the spell circle, so this has been classified to the level of state secret.
That is why you couldn't know about it under normal circumstances.”
“Wait how did you create horns and wing then?”
“I found a loophole, that exist within your body wasn't said like that randomly, if you eat something it counts as within your body, so I ate wings and horns created them before they were digested, and then left them in an extremely small size, so small that it can't be seen or even perceived by touching the zones were they are.
So now I can grow horns and wings.
Also I didn't explain that before, it is not a spell that consumes mana continuously, it is a one time cost, high mind you, but not so much to hinder that many people from doing a lot of small changes.”
“Ok so this is not just extremely concerning this is straight up madness something like that shouldn't exist.”
Rachel said she was increasingly more concerned, thank god it wasn't public information.
Then they fought again, with the addiction of horns and wings Raia was extremely more agile and if Rachel were to rank her now high gold would be the bare minimum.
Being able to see didn't change much when she was on the ground, but when she was flying it was the only way for her to be able to know where she was and where to go.
“That's the reason you wanted me to rank you before all of this, I admit if I had to rank you now I would give you at least high gold but it would be difficult to not get caught. Is there any other absurd thing you would like to show me or we are finished.”
“For today yes we are finished.”
“What do you mean for today are you thinking of creating something like this again?”
“Maybe, who knows.”
“Olaf please say something you've been quiet all this time.”
“I can't stop the creative genius that is my disciple, it would be counter productive.”
“I will need a drink after this.”
Rachel said exasperated.
