The next day, Harrison was looking at a few targets in the firing range, while he looked at them, countless thoughts ran through his mind.
Ever since he was a kid, his main objective was to end this madness, his parents were victims of the war and he became an orphan when he was only a 10 years old boy, if it wasn't by the little fortune they left for him, his life could have ended way worse.
Even so, he still couldn't help but reflect on the way things happened, all this conflict is just a local thing, other planets are completely dominated by mages or common humans alone, but is this correct? To fight between themselves? Eventually, another mage would be born on their side and the circle of violence would continue.
As a scientist, he despised politicians and their moves solely based on their interest, he knew very well that magic coupled with technology could bring endless benefits for humanity, he just couldn't understand why they still didn't manage to stand together.
He sighed and took a pistol that was on one of the displays, he loaded it with the special ammunition they use to destroy a mage's shield, it's much more effective than common bullets.
He aimed at one target that was 200 meters away and shot, the screen at his left then showed where the bullet hit, his shot was a few centimeters off the center. He tried a few more times but not even once managed to hit the target.
"Maybe I should try that protocol..."
"Eir, I want you to activate the experimental archetypes, activate the elite shooter profile."
[Right away, master.]
After a few seconds, he felt something inside him change, as Eir used her connection with him, to control and influence parts of his brain, and body, he could see better at long distances and he felt as if his hands were more stable and precise.
"Alright, let's see if it makes any difference..."
He pointed to the center again, this time he could say that his accuracy had increased enormously, his body was stable as a statue, he quickly calculated the distance between him and the target and the wind speed.
Breathing calmly, he focused on the center of the target and fired.
BANG!
Seeing the smoke coming out of the barrel he turned to the screen and smiled.
"A perfect shot." This time he managed to hit the center of the target, the profiles were an extremely useful feature of his AI, through it he could adapt his bodily functions to a few specific situations, increasing his efficiency when doing certain actions.
[Master, I would like to ask for permission to scan your body, I have found something that requires further studying as this isn't in my database.]
'What!?' Hearing Eir's words he was stunned, every piece of public information available was on Eir's database, how come there is something in his body that isn't on her database?
[Based on what I currently know, there is a group of neurons in a region of your brain that is in a state of total paralysis and they appear to be connected with some parts of your body, further analysis could identify whether this is beneficial or not.]
'Alright, proceed with whatever you consider necessary.'
[Very well, master.]
'What a headache.' He thought, what if this is some sort of cancer? Although this could be solved, it would be necessary to spend quite a few months in a hospital.
At that moment someone slapped the back of his head.
"Ouch!" He turned to see who it was and sighed, Anna...
"I see, you actually heard me and came to practice, let's see how your performance is!"
She pulled him away and looked at the screen, she stared at it with her eyes wide for a moment before turning back to him.
"Have you been training these last few months? It seems you've improved your shooting abilities."
"Haha, yeah. You know me, always trying to make sure I'm the best." He gave her the pistol and watched as she tried to hit the center.
"The best? What about the other genius like Taylor Holbach or Eloise Laux from the GIRD?"
"Those useless bastards from the genius institute or whatever? Hahaha! They are nothing compared to me, I only needed two inventions to change the tides of the war, I even participated in the front lines instead of wasting my time at the safe zone, they are nothing compared to me."
"Hehe, as arrogant as always, some things never change." She shot at the target while saying that, hitting the center every time, unlike Harrison who only managed to do that after using his cheat.

Thanks to her augmentations she was a really good shooter, almost no one inside the FH squads could beat her. Cybernetic improvements were something that was present in the everyday life of every human and a few lucky mages that are connected to organized crime. Although the government would like to prevent this from happening, the world is way too big for this, there would always be a rat that escaped their radars.
They practiced shooting for an hour until Anna said something that startled him.
"Hey, Harrison..."
"What is it?"
She dropped the gun and sat down at one of the tables, he saw her depressed look and raised an eyebrow, she is usually full of energy, what would make her so dejected?
"Is anything wrong?" He asked with concern in his voice.
"You know, I have been doing this for a long time, I'm almost 35... Do you know when was the last time I met my parents?" She stopped and sighed before continuing. "More than 17 years ago when I enlisted."
Harrison could only remain silent at her statement, even though he entered the army when he was 16, it has been only 8 years since then and the people closest to him were only his friends since he didn't have any living relatives.
"I still want to have a child, marry someone, and have a peaceful and comfortable life with my family. In fact, the reason I went to your tent yesterday was that I wanted to tell you... Sigh"
She took out her dog tags and gave it to him. "Harrison, all that time we worked together was really special for me, you're the best commander I had, and I'll never forget you!" She hugged him and backed away.
Harrison gulped and caressed her dog tags, he looked at them and said.
"Thanks for telling me, I hope you will have a good life and find a good man to marry... Remember to send me an invitation to your future marriage," said Harrison as he smiled at her.
She looked at him with her eyes red, they worked together for a long time... Ever since he entered the army she had been part of his squadron, they went through a lot of shit and death knocked their doors more than a dozen of times. Harrison might have a confident look and a smile on his face, but as someone who worked with him since he entered the army, she practically saw him grow, she could tell that this was a great blow to him...
"Then... when are you leaving?" Harrison asked with a blank face.
"Today, I have postponed it for two months already, it's time to go home."
He nodded and looked at the horizon, the blue sky and the clouds were like a painting trying to comfort his heart.
"Harrison, if you have time in the future, come see me at Morgreece, I live in Litaly one of the countries in the northern part of the continent. You have my number, so if you ever need me or just need someone to talk just give me a call."
They shook hands one last time and she left the firing range. Leaving Harrison alone to think about his future.
"A family huh..." He shook his head and bit his lips, how long has it been since he had someone to call family? Ever since his parents died, he had been alone, going from one orphanage to another again and again until he showed the world his capabilities and decided to live on his own.
The closest thing he had that he could call home was his laboratory where he stayed most of his time… For years his "family" was only his inventions.
He needed to visit the gym, he wanted to see if there was anyone to spar a little in close combat, he would only be able to vent his stress by punching someone.
...
The gym was on the outside, the tools were there for anyone who wanted to use them. There were also a few rings where one could spar, from time to time there would be someone who went up there and challenged the others, some soldiers even liked to make bets.
Harrison went to one of the rings and looked at the people practicing and training, he was waiting for someone to accept his challenge.
At the back of the gym, two soldiers were lifting some weight, one of them swept his eyes around and locked his gaze at Harrison's figure, he looked at the one beside him and said.
"Hey Alex, look at the first ring!"
"Huh? Why-" The moment Alex saw Harrison, he stopped for a moment, before grinning madly. "Since this dickhead decided to knock on my door I better greet him with my best punch!"
Alex thanked the soldier next to him and went to Harrison's ring.
Harrison saw him approaching and silently muttered to Eir. "Activate the martial artist profile."
Some people noticed that Harrison and Alex were about to face each other and stopped whatever they were doing, it's not always that people with grudges fight, those were the best fights to watch since they always go overboard which made it more interesting.
"Harrison! Do you still remember what you said to me yesterday? Well, I'm gonna make you swallow those words!" Alex had already worn his boxing gloves and entered the ring.
Harrison smirked at his statement and simply shook his head since he would be facing Alex, he had one more reason to vent out all of his emotions, he would make him regret his decision.
"What? Did a cat get your tongue, or are you too ashamed to speak? Maybe you fear me so much that you can't speak, right? Hahaha!" Before he could continue his insults he felt a drop of liquid falling on his face, he opened his eyes only to see that Harrison had spit on him.
"You speak too much, Alex." Harrison didn't even wait for his answer and went at him, they didn't even set the rules, meaning this fight would only stop when someone was fully knocked out.
"Humph!" Alex entered in a combat stance, using his hands and to protect himself.
Seeing that Harrison was doing the same, Alex took the initiative and sent a punch towards him, Harrison however, easily avoided his attack and counter-attacked with a punch of his own which was blocked by Alex.
But he didn't stop there, Harrison used his knee to attack followed by another punch, this time he managed to go past Alex guard and hit his nose, making some blood flow out of it.
"Grr!" Alex enraged tried to charge towards Harrison but didn't manage to hit him, since Harrison somehow managed to avoid him using a weird movement.
While Alex was getting more and more enraged, Harrison was admiring the capabilities of the martial artist profile, this profile was capable of making him react in a more instinctive way to various of his enemies movements, it was really helpful since he could feel that even the amount of energy he expended to every movement was greatly reduced.
Seeing that Alex was approaching, Harrison smiled once more and said, "Time to end this!"
Before Alex could react, Harrison jumped and kicked him three times in the air in a kind of acrobatics worthy of a kung fu movie. Each kick hit his head and managed to knock out him.
Seeing how the fight ended the soldiers erupted with cheers, some had a bitter look on their faces, they bet on Alex and lost some money, so it would be expected that they didn't like this situation.
"Did you see that last kick? That was fucking amazing!"
"Yeah, he looked like those characters from movies who do some impossible stunts!"
