Chapter 2: Lin

After returning from the well and sitting at the small worn table he organized his thoughts. He knew that he needed to leave in the future or risk death by his cruel family. Now that he had a way to get strong even if the family begged him he wouldn't return though he knew that this was a fare dream at the moment.

He exhaled deeply and closed his eyes trying to find the feeling of the pearl he had felt before. His mind wondered inward toward his sea of conciseness. In the darkness a small pale light started getting closer he was lunged from his calm state and opened his eye, deeply heaving. As he tried to understand what happen a thought popped into his mind that he need to be higher level to interact with the pearl. After a long while he calmed himself down taking a long sip from the bucket of water emptying it clean.

He felt refreshed although hungry but that was something he was used to and decided to ignore it and focus on the three Cultivation method Earthen Body Cultivation, Five Heart Essence, and Dragon Soul Cultivation in his head. Once again closing his eye, Ling tried to gather the information on each one.

Five Heart Essence was a godly way to gather and temper the qi in the body. Unlike other methods that would just try to sense it and gather it into on dantian. This method tried to gather the pure essence of the qi making a five pointed start in your daitain, and at each point it would hold a pure essence of Earth, Wind, Fire, Water , and Pure Qi.

Ling felt a great since determination to master all of them. This method would break the mold but the requirements to practice it was also server. Unlike other methods the Five pointed star was about balance. To train in order to advance one must be able to have all five elemental qi toward the breaking point and then push on through.

It was so hard that if your start to practicing it the only way to advance in one element was to restarted sacrificing all the effort it took. What astonished Ling was that his was just the entry level of the skill. Even though he wanted to practice it he couldn't because it required, at least the user to have entered Qi Gathering stage.

After feeling a little disappointed he steeled his heart and swift through the next method, Earthen Body. This method was a body cultivation art and was quite rare in the Yulia. Most of the art were those of the sword for martial arts.

The Earthen Body was just the entry level skill and could evolve according to the user understanding of it. The method would gather qi layering it on the skill making it as strong as a mountain but as soft as silk. This art was perfect for his weak body but it to required that he be at Qi Gathering stage as well.

Ling was not to disappointed as he readied himself earlier and looked at the last one called Dragon Soul.

Training the Soul and mind falls into the field of medical art and is little help to martial practitioners of weapons or body. The soul and mind are the hardest to train that's why there are so few magus in the world. There power for formation technicians are abominable and they can manipulate the essence of a element which give them power near or far.

The Dragon Soul is a meditation method that not only tempers the mind to channel energies better but also trains the soul. Soul training arts are but a legend but Ling could feel the instruction in his head as clear as day. What left him speechless what that unlike the other he was able to practice this as it only required the user to practice the breathing method at sunrise.

Ling open his eyes after a long time looking out toward the sun. It looked like a long day lied ahead but he felt weak, as the once dampers pain came back. Looking at his body the once broken leg when he was dragged her had healed mostly and he thought it would take a month for it to fully heal. Lost in thought, he turned he head as a young girl entered along with a tray of food with sadness in her eye.

“Lin Mei, why are you here.”

She looked at Ling in shocked then slowly filled with water as she came to the table and sat down the tray.

“Young master your awake!”

She rushed and hugged him letting take in fresh clean sent. Ling was stunned by this as he had never done this with anyone before.

“Um, um Lin” he stammered as the young girl gently let go tears pouring down her face as a big smile plaster on it. Ling reached out his bone hand and patted her hand smiling at her. After while she had dried her tears and now had bowed.

“Master Ling, you had saved me I could never repay you.”

“Lin Mei its ok you have helped me in the past sharing you food with me. I knew you did nothing wrong it would have been cruel to repay your kindness with silence in your time of need.”

“M-master!”

“Get up, and tell me how long was I asleep and what has happened since then.”

Ling listen closely, trying to understand what happened while he was unconscious. It had been a three week since then and the family manner had not changed. Because of his serious injure his elder sister sent Lin Mei to looking after him and even made her is personal maid.

This surprised him because he knew that his standing in the family did not allow him to have such. She had told him that his elder sister had gotten engaged and the whole clan is in a joyful mood, he was even given twice the food. He usually got one bowl of rice and some small meat for a meal once a day.

A lot of thing happen and it took him awhile to understand this drastic change in the clan. As he wondered, a growl came from his stomach making the room fall into silence.

“Sorry Ma-”

“I wish you'll just call me Ling like usual Lin”

“Oh, ok Ling... I brought you some soup but since your awake you can feed yourself.”

“Thank you Lin is there anything else you need?”

“No, no Ling I'll go get you some water”

“Thank you”

She grabbed the bucket to filled it up as Ling devour the food on the table. He decided that he couldn't do anything except train and would plan to leave and join a sect when he grew stronger.
