Viktor took a clean, golden box with “KARLBROS” stamped on it in large, red letters from his pocket and took a cigarette from it. Taking a deep pull on it, he scratched his face and looked across his desk towards his new client, a thin man with perfectly round spectacles wearing a perfectly pressed white dress shirt and a clean black coat with matching trousers.
He looked to be around the same age as Viktor maybe even a year or two older but was sitting nervously on the wooden chair he had been offered, slightly fidgeting a bit from time to time to observe the office of the private detective he had come to for aid. The room itself was small albeit neatly arranged; it had two stuffed bookcases filled with manuals, phonebooks, hand-written notebooks, graphic novels and a few volumes of something that promised “wild nights” or at least that’s what the spine said, beside the shelf was a walnut desk containing many half-opened drawers and an oval glass jar filled with pennies.
Then there was the matter of the detective himself with shaggy black hair, bright blue eyes that looked like they could capture even the tiniest movements and a thin, handsome face with a twisted mark that ran below his right eye to the end of his face beside a thin mouth that was forcibly twisted into a small smile. He was wearing a black shirt with identical trousers and a silver watch on his wrist that seemed to be ticking much faster than a normal wristwatch.
“So, Mr.…?” asked Viktor trailing off unsure of his client’s name “Frank” he replied saving him the trouble. “Mr. Frank” he replied thankfully “to what do I owe the pleasure?” “Well you see it’s quite a sensitive matter and I would much appreciate it if I could have your complete confidence before revealing the details” Frank replied choosing his words carefully so as to not offend him.
“Well, I’m pretty sure you can trust me considering the fact that you have already conducted a very thorough background check on me before showing up here” “Yes, I have some very handy sources” Viktor replied to Frank’s surprised face.
“Now let’s cut the crap and get right down to the details shall we”, “Of course” Frank said clearing his throat and beginning in a formal, emotionless tone “I am the personal secretary of the Clark’s family of whom you will already doubtless know, they are one of the most powerful business families within the city and have established their stronghold over the authorities time and time again, Recently their 2nd son: Ken was found murdered in his bedroom lying on his bed with two clean bullet shots fired into his forehead, naturally his parents are devastated about their son’s sudden death as well as the fact that heir high standing brings forward much more media coverage than normal.
They would like you to clear this entire matter up by solving the case as soon as possible to guard the family against further disrespect and baseless speculations that are directed towards ruining the family’s public standing.”
“Well, shit, That was…a lot to take in, do you want any water your throat should undoubtedly be raspy after all that talking: said Viktor offering Frank a paper cup filled with water. “Yes, thank you very much, now, will you be taking the case?” Frank asked politely after taking a sip “First, I’d like to clear up some stuff, exactly when was the body found? Did you notice any signs of aggression on the flesh and have you sent anyone there to investigate the scene before?”

“The body was discovered when a maid when to wake the young master up at morning, we have not thoroughly checked the body for any injuries or bruises since we haven’t had much tie due to the murder taking place yesterday and because the family stands at such a high position, they did not want to disclose any more to the public than absolutely necessary and have not sent anyone to investigate which is why I have come here”
“Alright, yeah I’ll take it, it sounds interesting enough and I feel like there’s something bigger at play here” Viktor muttered lost in thought. “That is very nice to hear Mr. Viktor, here is your entire fee, in advance of course and I sincerely hope that you are able to solve this murder” said Frank placing a small envelope in front of Viktor. “I’ll be going then, when can we expect you tomorrow?” Frank asked “Er, I’ll be there at 2-4 pm” Viktor replied “Splendid, I’ll arrange a car to pick you up” said Frank in an expressionless voice.
That, won't be necessary Viktor replied and with that Frank set off closing the door behind him as he went. Viktor slowly got up, grabbed his olive green overcoat from the couch, lit up a cigarette and slowly walked down the stairs and out into the street. Whilst making his way towards a grimly lit bar with boarded up windows, he kept taking long pulls on his cigarette and watched a young couple, hardly older than 17 or 18 make out on a bench in the shadows of the countless houses.
Hurrying his footsteps, so as not to disturb the oblivious couple, He took his phone out from his pocket and started looking up the kid’s name and activities. From what he could tell, Ken unlike other rich kids was actually pretty decent, he had been a top student in studies, and worked passionately in his father’s many estates had a handsome face and seemed to have a girlfriend who was a rather popular fashion model.
Viktor opened the door to the bar and was immediately greeted by a sudden outburst of music and noise, he entered the large, brightly lit room and sat on a table for two and patiently waited, he had just ordered two cocktails when the door opened and a very pretty lady with a fair face, blond hair and walnut eyes entered. She was wearing a clean white shirt and a black short skirt that (Viktor disturbingly noticed) rode up her thighs when she walked. He was also pleased to see that she had an attractively large bosom. To complete her almost perfect look she was wearing clear, round spectacles that elegantly complimented her already beautiful face.
Her eyes quickly darted through the entire room before landing on Viktor who smilingly waved at her. After making her way over, she sat opposite him and he began the conversation “First of all, thank you very much for accepting my invite Miss Jenny” “It’s not a problem” she replied curtly “Now, kindly tell me why you graciously invited me for drinks” “I would have thought a bright, beautiful woman like you would have been able to easily tell that” Viktor muttered coolly “Flattery will get you nowhere near what you’re looking for” she said strictly although he could hear a hint of amusement in her voice “Well, I’ll be damned, this was originally going to be a strictly professional conversation related to your job as the assistant of the personal secretary of the Clark’s family but now that my weak, pathetic eyes have laid eyes on you, let’s just assume that that idea has vanished in thin air along with any and all traces of common sense that I might have had” Viktor said, dreamily gazing at Jenny from across the table as a small, pleased smile slowly started playing at the corners of her rosy lips.
