Prolouge: Birth

On the 7th of the Month of Seriel, year 3,377,777 after the first ascension, with only the moon Katib visible in the otherwise blank sky, the streets were bustling with commotion. Today was the legendary day of sevens, as the date perfectly formed a 3377777/7/7, and the major empires had all declared the day a global holiday. The air was filled with smoke, alcohol, and most importantly, celebration. Fireworks were ignited everywhere, illuminating the city with a plethora of colors, ranging from deep blues to fiery oranges to just plain old white. Trash lined the streets, drunks and their drunk buddies passed out on the street, but today was not the day to worry about those things; tomorrow was.

Far away from any deafening firecrackers or blinding fireworks existed a small town by the name of Strago. In this small settlement, there were still festivities for the day of sevens, but instead of the noise of cities, it existed as a gathering of all of the citizens at various bars around towns. Here, people drank cheerily and spoke loudly, but for the most part the streets were quite empty. The streetlamps flickered, and laughter echoed throughout the city.

On this day at the edge of town, in a cozy 2-story house, a fairly uncommon but not unusual event occurred; a woman had triplets. The father was was a traveling merchant who left as soon as he came; in this quaint house only lived the single mother. She had no extraordinary talents, worked as a baker, and at night moonlighted as a bar waitress. While not attractive, she was also fairly unremarkable, and if you saw her on the street you would most likely forget what she looked like the next time you blinked.

These brothers were not identical, and in fact looked very little like each other, and later on in life people would be quite surprised when they realized that they were, in fact, triplets. Aside from being triplets, there was one other thing that connected them, and that was a peculiar formation on the threes’ backs while they were born. The mother was so relieved and tired after their birth that she did not notice even the formations, and after a few seconds of glowing they disappeared into nothingness.

A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

On the first brother’s back was a image of a dragon’s head emerging from nothing, the torso gradually faded. the head and body were pointed down, and started at the base of the neck, only extending around 10 centimeters down. Before disappearing, the dragon appeared to snake down the boy’s back, travelling until it reached the lower back, and by then the dragon’s tail appeared, and then the whole symbol suddenly disappeared.

On the second brother’s middle back was symbol of a dragon biting its tail. This formation was of roughly same size as the one on the first brother’s back, and if you looked closely you would see that the head was the same as well. The circle rotated once 360 degrees, and then too disappeared.

Finally, on the third brother’s back was a symbol of a dragon as well, with its head at the base of the neck and the tail at the lower back. This dragon shifted upwards, the head and body fading into nothingness, and soon enough the dragon disappeared.

These babies did not cry, and only looked up at the night sky through a window in the ceiling, staring at the sliver of Katib with curiosity, and then fell asleep.

Prior to falling asleep, which the mother did soon after, she named them in between her panting. “Vehafor, Thirku, Bekilip.”
