Tide clenched his jaw, forcing another mouthful of the foul mana potion down his throat. As he began muttering the incantation for his go-to spell, several spikes of earth and stone shot out of the ground, skewering a number of zombies charging him; it was an all but futile attempt. The endless waves of zombies were simply too much for even Tide himself.
Cursing, Tide backed away while starting up another spell. He kept an eye on his mana to make sure that he had enough left for his next couple of spells. Luckily, the mystery potion had been a high tier one. His mana rose steadily as the artificial mana became his own, ready to meet his demands.
His next spell created a trench in front of him, and the zombies mindlessly tumbled down into the pit, allowing the defenders around him a moment of rest. Tanks and Dps all began to down as many potions as they could while the undead slowly filled up the ditch and began to grab onto its edges. Some of the more advanced ones were able to jump across to engage with the frontline.
After taking another breath, Tide immediately began to chant his next spell’s invocation.
This one, titled “Burial,” made the trench collapse in a cloud of dust, putting the undead to rest once more, this time permanently. Around fifty or so corpses were removed from battle with that one spell, earning Tide some attention. After this battle he'd earn some decent merits and exchange them for better equipment.
Unfortunately, not only his allies were noticing his display of magic. Behind the lines of rampaging undead, a death knight noticed the bothersome spell caster and decided to end this nuisance.
Tide reached into his storage ring for another mana potion while the melee fighters once again engaged with the hoard. From the corner of his eye, he saw a flash of green moments before it collided with him and sent him tumbling backwards pining him to a wall. When he looked down, he saw that he was pierced through his stomach. The shaft composed of green flames was protruding from his abdomen.

As his brain began to come back online after the shock of the impact, he immediately felt a fierce pain coming from his torso.
Tide began to scream as the flames of the spear began to disperse, climbing up his body burning him alive. Just as his vison began to blur man wearing something white ran over quickly and held his hands over Tide's chest before yelling some words to him that Tide really couldn't make out.
A warm light began to rain down from his hands and began to push back the green flames and pink flesh began to show as the char on is body peeled off. As he was getting healed the pain from the flames was slowly getting reduced, and his vision cleared, long enough to see the face of the man standing over him. James, one of the best healers and his good friend was treating his grievous wounds with a look of concern plastered on his face.
Hope sprouted in Tide's mind. James could handle this level of damage, after all he was one of the rare epic class users. He had received the Archbishop class and could bring back some from even the worst wounds.
”Hold on Tide, I’ll get you back up and fighti—.”
Before James could finish his sentence the tip of a bone arrow sprouted from his neck causing the sentence to devolve into a gurgle.
Tide’s hope was dashed as he felt his friends blood spray over him. As he choked on the arrow and his own blood, the light dimmed from James's eyes. At the same time the holy light coming from his hands dimmed as well, before he collapsed on to the ground.
Without the gentle light of the healer holding it back, the devilish flames once again began to burn Tides body with a renewed vigor. After a bit more agony, and screaming Tide's consciousness began to fade bring the awful pain with it.
As his life was coming to an end it was oddly peaceful for the circumstances and it felt like time slowed down. In this state bordering on the edge of death he had a couple of seconds where he felt like he could think clearly.
Damit, that was so unlucky. Pulling the bosses agro, getting hit by a high-level skill, and James dying was a string of shit luck.
It was unfair. Some games are just way too hard. Especially this one, because it was made by some godly fucks who don't give a shit about their player base. Honestly, they were shit game devs.
Tide’s thoughts began to slowly fade as the coldness of nothingness replaced the blistering heat of the flames consuming him.
