Chapter 3 - Having a look around
William left the protective borders of the village together with the squad of guards. They were marching around him in a protective circle.
The guards looked around with sharp eyes and inspected the surroundings for any danger. Though during the whole trip they didn’t once bother or inconvenience the lord himself.
On the way to the farms, they walked over the small moat-Dam combo surrounding the village. This was there to protect the citizens against monster attacks.
Once in a while, they had to maneuver around a deep puddle of water.
Arrived at the farms they met up with the next elder. Tim was managing this part of the village.
Behind him, farmers managed their slaves in collecting the wheat, damp from the recent rain. Which was quite regular this late into the spring season.
William talked a bit about agriculture with Tim. Tim’s eyes opened up when he talked with him. He talked in a hasty pace and gestured around with his arms a lot.
They both discussed the crops optimal for the area and what could be improved. Throughout the conversation, William warmed up to Tim.
And when they talked about the trade possible through cultivating coffee they were interrupted. Tim glared at the person interrupting them until he noticed who it was.
Tom, Tim‘s twin brother, had just arrived with a small caravan of logs from the borders of the forest.
He sweated a loot and steam was rising from him, even though the warm weather. He greeted the lord and included himself in the discussion about coffee. Though he mostly spoke in short sentences.
With the three men talking around feverishly no one was to stop them. They discussed the village's surroundings and the state of the farming, gathering, and logging profession.
The sun slowly went down under the mountains and William had to stop the discussion. On his way back to the village, together with the guard squad, he looked back at the twins.
They continued on their talk while packing up for the day, a smile adorning both of their faces.
On the way back William observed all the people making their way into the village. For its small size, a lot was happening.
Though the slumped postures and downfallen looks of some of his people didn’t go unnoticed to him.
He entered through the western entrance and dismissed the guards around them. They acknowledged his order and made their way into the barracks. Marching slightly lighter than before but straightening up when they saw Sir Albert.
William himself made his way towards the adventurers guild. Mary, he had already sent home. She had walked back to the manor briskly, a light jump visible in her walk.

Opening the guild door he was met with loud music. Around him, various diverse people and personalities were enjoying the good things of life.
The guild’s inn’s barmaids were wearing revealing clothing, sending some leering customer glancing winks. An arm-wrestling match was going on, by the tables before the stairs up.
They led into the guild top floor, housing rooms for the passing monster slayers.
William's personality was noticed immediately, his relatively fine attire stood out in the crowd.
Some of the looks send at him were offensive, or of those searching for money either sexual or mischievous.
Though this all stopped when a silent squeech went through the room. It was nearly impossible to hear but broke the room's tense silence.
Everyone could hear its origin but didn’t dare to look. Just after light wooden creaks could be heard coming down from the top floor.
William took a tentative glance at the silent though loud noise. A veiled figure made its way down the stairs.
He first assumed the figure to be male but the large behind hinted at something else. Once the feminine figure made her way to the bottom floor she walked towards William.
The breaths of the guild's members were held in. No one dared to move and everything was still.
Everyone just stared at the feminine figure making her way towards William. The tense situation builds up into a climax. Even the lightest heartbeat could be heard.
Just at this moment, in a careless second, a loud noise broke the silence.
Pfffhhhh, a loud fart shattered the tense situation.
A fat man in the establishment's corner, with a spoon full of soup, was the culprit.
The guilds member broke out in a loud laugh. The music returned and a loud shout went above the laughing mass.
Feminine figure: “Ayy, Harold, eatn a bit too much of granny's bean stew, havn’t ya.
The fat man went completely red and pearls of sweat made their way down his large forehead. The guild itself vibrated in the loud laughter and the man was nagged by the crowd.
During all this mess William just stood at the guild's entrance. Having experienced the long journey to his current situation as mayor he has seen a lot.
Far worse or funnier than what was happening right now, though he still split a smile when the man farted.
The Feminine figure, revealed herself as the guild master. She guided William up into her office.
While walking up she swayed her behind and bit her lip. When they arrived at the guild's top floor they began talking.
The guild mistress introduced herself as lucy. She was the leader of the surrounding adventurers and monster slayers. She had been in the business for quite a while.
William introduced himself casually, having caught up to his partner's tone of voice and personality.
They discussed various topics and she informed him of the surrounding situation. Though the guild master's casual and carefree tone diminished when they discussed the heightened mana levels.
If it got out of hand it could quickly devolve into a precarious situation. To end the meeting on a positive note William invited her to a meeting in the future.
He then left the guild, said goodby to some of the patrons, and made his way home.
On the way, he met Banelias. He was currently finishing the last discussions with the merchants and traders of the market.
Besides him stood his loyal scribes. When he noticed William he excused himself from the discussion and let the scribes take over.
While banelias made his way towards William, the lord noticed the merchant's grim look lighten up a bit. The scribes took control of the work that still had to be done and brought everything in order very talented.
As baselines reached William, he decided to accompany him on the walk to the nobles' district.
William agreed and they talked about the day's ongoings in the financial and economic area. During the discussion, Banelias began to stutter sometimes and paused often between his sentences.
When they reached the protective walls of the first district William hadn’t learned a lot. He nevertheless said goodbye to Banelias and made his way into the manor.
Finally being home he made his way into the baths.
Having freshened up a bit and with a new look on life, he mentally planned out his future moves.
He wouldn’t sleep tonight so he could take a good mental look at what he wanted to do with his position as mayor.
To concentrate better he fell into a meditative position in the cultivating room and started the planning!!!
