The Dungeon Heart
Kittens, FTW!

Kittens, FTW!

A soft melodious tune filled the air of the large open area. Youa looked around, there were no walls visible, the area was bright and filled with stations where her brothers and sisters worked quietly.

Soft murmurs of quiet conversation lent a pleasant undertone to the music. Her brother, Aeron, was tasked to guide her in the ways of her new life. Youa had only recently formed. Every now and then her pointed feline ears twitched to sounds of giggles and laughter that only she could hear.

"You've been doing well, Youa, so today you will spend some time here in the reprocessing room. As you can see, it's very busy." Aeron said.

The stations were small desks that had several inset holes connected to pipes, along the wall next to each station tubes stretched up, continuing further into the air before her standard eyesight could view. She could have enabled her divine sight but it would do no good. These tubes just continued without end. Well, they went further than Youa's interest so she just determined they were endless.

Her brothers and sisters sat in comfortable office chairs while they collected glowing orbs as they came out of the tubes, then they passed the orb through a floating ring where colorful lights flickered until stopping at one color. Once the color solidified, the orb would be dropped into one of the various holes on the desk.

Aeron sighed and motioned for Youa to follow. He led her to a station close by and pointed at the chair.

"We have so many to work with and so little time. It's imperative that the souls get processed as quickly as possible so that no damage is incurred to their essence due to handling delays."

"Um, ok. So, the orbs are like the soul of the animals and people. For them to come to us they have died?" Youa kicked her feet and attempted to spin the chair. "This is silly, why don't we have spinning chairs?" She asked.

"Youa, this is delicate work, I know it seems simple but we have to work quickly and efficiently, among the creator's realms there are so many souls that if we fell behind it could mean a massive loss of our productivity. So, if you are spinning in your chair... you likely aren't being careful." Aeron stated with a frown.

"Oh yeah, well, I'll be careful. It looks super easy. Hey, my followers have some stuff that would probably help me!" With that said her eyes glazed, she started sending out her senses to filter through the images sent by her followers. She got distracted by the video of a naked man dancing around and singing. Really, he looked odd. Why were Earth humans so silly. She started to giggle but noticed Aeron was talking again.

You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.

"Um, yes, Aeron, I will definitely be careful. You can count on me! Youa, Goddess of YouTube Followers, is on the job!" She did a little fist bump in the air.

As the creator's beings focused, prayed and invested energy into their beliefs, desires and wants, that energy pooled in the endless void of the creator's domain. If enough energy was gathered, a new god or goddess would be born out of that energy. For many years, each day, hundreds of thousands of humans devoted their focus and energy on wishes to be Youtube celebrities or prayed for assistance in developing the best video possible, etc. As a result, Youa now sat in the soul reprocessing hall. Where gods and goddesses reviewed the souls coming from the realms and sent them back to continue to grow and develop, and gain greater soul energy. This soul energy kept the divine realm going.

Aeron shook his head. "Just be careful ok, do you understand how it works, like I explained?"

Waiting for her nod, he continued. "I'll sit with you for a time to observe and help if you have any questions."

"Okie Dokie pokie. When do we get breaks?"

Aeron sighed, "Just get started."

Youa sighed and relaxed, Aeron had finally left her after like the gazillion soul she processed. This work was boring. The music was lame. Her tail twitched in irritation. Few of her siblings had a form such as her, but for some reason, enough of her followers desired a "cat girl" that when she solidified, she found herself with ears poking up between the strands of her dark hair, long nails, really claws and a soft fluffy tail.

She looked around and saw that no one was noticing her so she spent a small tendril of energy to pull up a window. It was a private viewing so no one else could see. She focused for a moment and soon images of cute little kittens were dancing around. She smiled. For whatever reason, she really felt in tune with these images. She just loved these little kittens.

She turned to the tube as it made a small beep as another soul popped out. She waved it through the ring, barely waiting for the color to stabilize before dropping it in the appropriate hole. Another beep immediately followed and she held out her hand to catch it, a sudden surge in energy gave her a pleasant chill.

What is going on? She wondered. Her senses filtered, A brand new video, already with a million hits. She turned it on, OH, wow... She suddenly started laughing, quickly putting her hands in front of her mouth to stifle the sounds. She wiped her eyes and closed the video and turned her attention back to her station.

A moment of clarity struck her and she looked at her hands and then looked at her station, just in time to see the orb, the one she had been holding, the one that didn't go through the hoop, disappear down a hole.

Oops, she thought
