Chapter 7: "Knockout"?(╭ರ_•́)

“Who are you, really? Why are you attacking me? Where is my father, Dr. Elock?”

Although she had temporarily escaped immediate danger thanks to Nisha’s protection, Alice’s initial fear was quickly replaced by a growing sense of unease.

Since the attack began, she hadn’t seen any sign of her father.

The polite Mr. Elock hadn’t appeared like the typical kidnapped victim in TV dramas, pushed out into the open, nor like the powerful characters from anime, who make dramatic, shining entrances.

This dark and cruel reality quickly gave rise to a terrible suspicion in Alice’s mind, so frightening that it drove her to question her attackers directly in search of answers.

However, it was clear that the men in black present wouldn’t answer any of their “target’s” questions. Even after witnessing four sniper bullets stop “out of nowhere” mid-air, these machine-like assassins hesitated only briefly before raising their weapons again.

This time, the oncoming attack was a full-on storm of bullets, unleashed without any restraint.

“The second target has appeared. Use maximum force immediately. No matter what happens, we must complete the mission... For the glory of the kingdom of Astralis!!”

“Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!”

Sparks lit up the night-like darkness, and the heat waves from the gunfire tore apart the neatly arranged flowers in the garden.

Following the orders of the lead man in black, seven other professional killers pulled out compact submachine guns hidden in briefcases and began shooting relentlessly.

With the help of tactical aiming sights, nearly all their shots landed on target.

Still, while Alice momentarily froze under the rain of bullets, Nisha’s defense was astoundingly strong.

The “saturated firepower” of the seven men in black had no effect other than warming the cold air. Hundreds of alloy bullets clattered harmlessly to the ground in the mansion’s garden, while the girl, now with a look of growing anger, stood unharmed at the doorway to her home.

In fact, by the time the eight electromagnetic submachine guns had completely emptied their magazines, Alice, who had been “enjoying” the display of light and shadow, had already regained her composure.

When faced with a sudden crisis, some people panic and freeze, unable to think, while others remain clear-headed and methodical. Alice was evidently one of the latter.

Perhaps, in that initial moment when she believed she was about to die, the helpless little girl had felt despair so deep it paralyzed her.

But with Nisha now showcasing its astounding ability to defend against attacks indiscriminately, the calm buried deep within Alice’s heart was awakened.

She didn’t want to die here.

She needed to find her father! However, the shield created by Nisha’s body was a completely isolated space. Not only was the light noticeably dimmed inside, but even sound couldn’t penetrate it!

Realizing this, the girl quickly understood that she couldn’t stay huddled under Nisha’s protection forever, trembling in fear.

The air inside the ten-meter-diameter sphere was limited, and before it ran out, Alice had to face the enemies head-on and take the initiative!

“What... what should I do now? Nisha’s intelligence isn’t enough to make the right decisions. Everything depends on me... Should I try to knock these people out like they do in movies, then interrogate them one by one?”

Rapidly reflecting on her mere eleven years of life and her “experience dealing with bad guys,” Alice instinctively dismissed the simplest option—killing—and decided she would knock them out instead.

After all, in movies and anime, the protagonists always handled villains this way. They’d just hit the enemy on the back of the head with something, and no matter how big or strong the bad guy was, they’d collapse instantly.

“That’s a good plan. It seems simple enough. Nisha and I should be able to do it.”

Resolute, Alice fixed her gaze on the leader of the men in black, who was reloading his weapon, and gave her first offensive command to the small ghost, still hesitantly maintaining the shield.

“Nisha, hit the man in the middle on the head, just like that scene in ‘Magic Girl Ifa’ versus the Apple Thief!”

The scene she referred to was a comedic fight from a children’s cartoon that Alice often watched with Nisha. For that reason, she believed the small ghost still remembered how the protagonist dealt with her enemies.

Simply swing your arm hard and hit the enemy on the head. That’s all. While the men in black attacked from both sides of the garden, Alice only needed to get close to the leader, who was clearly in charge, for Nisha to strike.

It didn’t seem too hard, right? Perhaps even Alice hadn’t realized it, but as soon as she gave the order, she surged forward at a speed almost comparable to her school scooter.

Though the leader immediately performed a tactical roll to evade her sudden charge, it was futile.

“Boom!”

Unfortunately for him, Nisha was far too fast.

Extending something like a flattened arm, the small protector attacked with such devastating force that it blew the leader’s body apart, scattering blood and chunks of flesh across the garden.

It was a perfect attack, an exact imitation of the protagonist’s movements in the cartoon.

The difference was in the sheer power...

The Apple Thief should consider himself lucky to have faced the merciful Magic Girl instead of the oblivious Nisha.

Against this hammering strike, comparable to a heavy industrial press, not even a medium-sized hover car would have remained intact, let alone a human body.
