Taking shape

It was as easy as breathing for Mylo to conjure the structure. A simple thought and visualisation and it started to form as his cloak began to glow a shimmering gold. Starting from the ground, large, strong legs with 4 digits designed to grip any sort of terrain began to shape and form. Clawed digits dug massive holes into the ground, larger than them both.

The lower region formed into a large platform with a furred underside, slowly being filled with the beginnings of the lower region of a body. Organs spiralled together and clutched onto bones as a long and thick spine slowly grew up the centre of the platform. Bringing his hands together, Mylo smirked as a large runic circle bloomed forth around the gigantic formation.

Bones snapped into existence as a skeletal structure formed around the top of the spine, and a square skull curled around a squishy brain. A large heart burst into existence with an echoing thump as blood began to pump through the structure. Birds in the nearby area fled with startled cries at the sound.

The collar bones shaped themselves into arms and snapped into place in each of the four corners of the structure, attached at the hip and the top of the spine. Finally, it was time for the muscle. Blooming around the joints, spindly red vines lassoed and latched to bones as they all shaped together.

Bones sailed right through the muscle in cross-shaped patterns as they were pulled back and fitted into cube-like shapes. Staircases of cartilage scaled upwards as each room was formed floor by floor. Lowering his arms, Mylo breathed out as the glow faded, and scales formed over a thin layer of skin.

“That ought to do it. I decided on scales, as to keep a creature of this size warm-blooded would be quite a challenge. It’s not got a consciousness or soul yet. Don’t want to give life to something doomed to fail, as sometimes happens.” Moving to jump up and onto the entrance, Mylo looked back at Elegard.

There was something to be said about his ability to keep his lunch inside his body after witnessing a giant living skyscraper form in front of him. Leaping into the air, he landed 20 feet up and right beside the dragon without any issue. For how horrifying it had been to see made...it was actually quite sturdy.

“I’ll admit. This is...interesting.” The entrance was all scaled, both inside and out. Elegard was grateful for that, if he’d had to watch twitching muscles, that would have done him in. Still, he walked toward one of the entrances. It would take some work, but a door would fit there, and the stairs were sturdy.

“As...creepy as it looks, it does look livable. Well, except for the lack of water and food.” Turning toward the dragon, Elegard briefly explained the basic needs of a human.

“Well, what if I used its spit to—nevermind.” There was an immediate look of revulsion on the human’s face, so Mylo likewise back-peddled. A puzzle in itself, he was clearly lacking details on how their structures came to be. Moving to jump back down, he motioned for Elegard to do the same.

“Well, that’s enough progress for today, I’ll need to conduct research before doing more.” With a snap of his hands, the physical creature in front of him simply vanished into a giant pile of golden coins. The coins then dissipated and swirled together into a singular coin, which Mylo plucked from the ground and ate.

“That was terrifying,” muttered Elegard with a spooked look. All that effort and that giant a creature, gone in an instant. If dragons had the ability to do that...why hadn’t humans been destroyed yet?

“Oh, apologies.” Turning, Mylo brought his hands together in a clap.

“...Say. Uh...If you dragons wanted, could you destroy the barriers that protect our cities?” If this was the case...they needed better security. It would give him a reason to talk to her again.

“Ah. Well…” There was a pause as Mylo frowned. The answer was an easy one, yes they could. In fact, with a single thought, all humans could just vanish. There were reasons why they didn’t, but his mind dwelled on the words Elegard had spoken earlier. A lie being better than the truth.

In this form, he was closer to humans than any dragon previously. But still very much a dragon. A giant beast capable of destroying everything. In comparison, even Elegard was a single microcosm, just an ant. Two worldviews battled for dominance in Mylo’s mind, and he glanced toward the city briefly.

“We could yes, but we won’t.” The dragon won out, and he revealed the answer that was the truth, gaze going to the defeated look on Elegard’s face as he turned and began to walk back toward the town. Idly, Mylo moved to follow.

“It’s days like today I wish I was stronger. So I could protect the things I care about. You have all this strength...and you use it to make stupid...skyscraper things…” It was an insult, and entirely unfair, but Elegard didn’t care. As if sensing that, Mylo breathed out and looked into the distance sadly.

“Your point is very valid. We have unfathomable power, yet we use it to play our own games and create anything our whims desire. We are alone, yet not alone. Even with all our power, we fail to protect anything until it’s too late.” His eyes closed as he shook his head for a moment.

Elegard glanced over in a moment of shock, skipping a step as he regarded the figure next to him. Not as a dragon, but as a human this time. For a brief moment, there was clarity and understanding. Not on all things, but on this one experience they both shared. A very human one.
