The Final Test

Talon and Lyra charged forward, the heat from the colossal corrupted elemental scorching the air around them. The creature’s towering form was made of molten rock and dark magic, its body pulsating with raw, malevolent power. Every step it took shook the ground beneath them, sending cracks spidering through the stone floor of the chamber. Lava dripped from its massive limbs, and its eyes glowed with the intensity of the corrupted fire that fuelled it.

Talon’s heart raced as he summoned the power of the elements. The earth beneath his claws trembled in response, the air around him swirling violently, and the fire within him roared to life, crackling with fury. He had unlocked three elemental powers now—fire, air, and earth—but the sheer size and strength of the corrupted elemental before them was unlike anything they had faced before.

“We’ll have to work together to take this thing down,” Talon said, his voice tense as he and Lyra dodged the elemental’s first massive swipe. Its molten arm slammed into the stone floor, leaving a trail of lava in its wake.

Lyra nodded, her wings beating furiously as she soared above the elemental’s head. “I’ll go high and draw its attention! You find a weak spot!”

Talon growled in agreement, diving low as Lyra unleashed a burst of elemental energy at the creature’s molten face. The blast struck the elemental, but it barely reacted, its dark magic absorbing the attack and twisting the fire into smoke.

As Talon circled around the elemental’s massive legs, he scanned its body for any sign of vulnerability. The corruption had spread through the creature’s core, darkening its once-pure fire with malevolent energy. But there was something deeper—something unstable at its centre.

The core. Just like the other corrupted creatures they had fought, the elemental’s power came from its core. If they could destroy it, the entire creature would collapse.

“Lyra!” Talon shouted, dodging another molten swing from the elemental. “We need to go for the core! It’s unstable—if we hit it hard enough, we can bring it down!”

Lyra glanced down at him, her eyes narrowing as she saw the flickering glow of the core beneath the elemental’s molten surface. “Got it! I’ll distract it—hit it with everything you’ve got!”

Talon didn’t hesitate. As Lyra swooped in, firing bolts of elemental energy to keep the creature’s attention on her, Talon gathered the power of the elements within him. Fire, air, and earth swirled together, their raw energy building in his chest as he prepared for the strike.

The elemental roared in fury as Lyra’s attacks pelted its molten body, its massive limbs swinging wildly as it tried to swat her out of the air. But Lyra was quick, darting between the creature’s strikes with the grace and speed of a seasoned fighter.

Talon took his chance. With a deep breath, he charged forward, his claws glowing with the combined energy of fire and earth. As he neared the elemental’s chest, he released a powerful burst of air, propelling himself upward and straight toward the creature’s core.

“Now!” Talon roared, driving his claws into the core with all his strength.

The impact was explosive. The elemental let out a deafening roar as Talon’s strike connected, sending shockwaves of energy through its massive body. The core flickered violently, destabilizing under the force of the attack.

But it wasn’t enough.

The elemental staggered, but it didn’t fall. Its molten body surged with renewed fury, and it lashed out with one massive arm, knocking Talon away. He crashed into the stone floor, the impact rattling his bones as pain shot through his body.

“Talon!” Lyra shouted, swooping down to his side. “Are you okay?”

Talon groaned, his vision blurry from the impact. “I’m fine… but it’s not enough. We need more power to break through the core.”

Lyra’s eyes darted toward the elemental, which was already recovering, its molten body reforming as it prepared for another attack. “If we don’t stop it soon, it’ll tear this whole place apart.”

Talon’s mind raced. He had already unlocked three elements, but the others—water and light—were still locked inside him. He could feel them, waiting to be discovered, but he didn’t know how to access them. Not yet.

“Focus on what we have,” Talon growled, forcing himself to his feet. “We need to hit it together. If we combine our attacks, maybe we can generate enough force to destroy the core.”

Lyra nodded, her face set with determination. “Let’s do it.”

They both took to the air, circling the massive elemental as it roared and lashed out, its molten limbs thrashing wildly. Talon could feel the power of the elements coursing through him—fire, air, and earth all swirling together in a chaotic dance. He had never pushed himself this hard before, but there was no other choice. They had to finish this.

“On my mark!” Talon shouted, gathering the power of the elements into his claws once more. “Now!”

Together, Talon and Lyra unleashed their combined elemental power. Fire, air, and earth surged forward in a concentrated blast, aimed directly at the core of the corrupted elemental. The force of their combined attack was immense, the air crackling with energy as it struck the creature’s molten chest.

The core flickered violently, pulsing with dark magic as it struggled to contain the sheer force of the attack. The elemental let out a furious roar, its body trembling as cracks began to form along its molten surface.

For a moment, time seemed to slow. Talon watched as the core buckled under the pressure, its dark energy unravelling in a cascade of light and shadow.

And then, with a deafening explosion, the core shattered.

The elemental let out a final, agonized roar as its body crumbled, the molten rock that had once made up its form dissolving into pools of lava. The dark magic that had fuelled it dissipated, leaving behind only the fading echoes of its corrupted energy.

Talon and Lyra hovered in the air, panting from the effort, as they watched the elemental collapse. The chamber around them fell silent, the oppressive weight of the dark magic lifting as the last remnants of the creature’s power faded.

“We did it,” Lyra whispered, her voice filled with awe and relief.

Talon nodded, though his body ached from the battle. “Yeah… we did.”

But even as the elemental fell, Talon’s mind raced. They had defeated the creature, but the corruption that had spread through the Citadel was still a threat. And the figure who had summoned the elemental—the one cloaked in shadow—was still there.

As if sensing Talon’s thoughts, the figure stepped forward, its dark, cloaked form emerging from the shadows at the edge of the chamber. “Impressive,” it said, its voice filled with dark amusement. “But you have only delayed the inevitable. The corruption cannot be stopped. It will consume everything, in time.”

Talon growled, his claws flexing as he prepared for another fight. “We’ll stop it. Whatever it takes.”

The figure chuckled softly, its voice echoing through the chamber. “You are powerful, dragon. But you are still blind to the true nature of the corruption. It is not a force you can fight with strength alone. It is a sickness that infects all—elementals, dragons, even the very land itself.”

Lyra’s eyes flashed with anger. “You’re the one spreading it!”

The figure shook its head slowly. “No. I am but a vessel. The corruption is far older than I, and far more powerful than you can imagine. It is the darkness at the heart of this world—the shadow that has always existed, waiting to rise again.”

Talon’s heart pounded in his chest. The figure’s words sent a chill down his spine. The corruption wasn’t just a force they could defeat—it was something far more insidious, something that had been waiting for eons to awaken.

“And now,” the figure continued, its voice growing colder, “you will see the truth for yourselves.”

With a wave of its hand, the figure summoned a portal of swirling darkness, its edges crackling with dark energy. The portal pulsed with malevolence, and Talon could feel the weight of it pressing down on his mind, filling him with dread.

“You may have won this battle,” the figure said, stepping toward the portal. “But the war is far from over. The corruption will spread, and soon, all will be consumed. You cannot stop it.”

Talon snarled, his claws glowing with elemental energy. “We’ll find a way. We’re not giving up.”

The figure paused, its head tilting slightly as if considering Talon’s defiance. “We shall see.”

With that, the figure stepped through the portal, vanishing into the darkness.

The chamber fell silent once more, the weight of the battle and the figure’s words hanging heavy in the air.

Lyra landed beside Talon, her eyes filled with uncertainty. “What… what did it mean? That the corruption can’t be stopped?”

Talon stared at the spot where the figure had vanished, his mind racing. “I don’t know,” he admitted quietly. “But whatever the corruption is, it’s bigger than we thought. And we’re going to need more than just strength to stop it.”

Lyra’s wings drooped slightly, her face set in a mixture of determination and fear. “So… what now?”

Talon took a deep breath, steadying himself. “We keep moving forward. We’ve unlocked three elements so far, but there are still others—water and light. If we can master them all, we might be able to fight the corruption from the inside.”

Lyra nodded, though the weight of the journey ahead was clear in her eyes. “We’ll have to find the source of it, won’t we? Whatever’s behind all of this.”

Talon’s gaze hardened. “Yes. We’ll find the source, and we’ll end it.”

With their resolve strengthened, Talon and Lyra turned away from the crumbling remains of the elemental and the dark portal that had vanished. The Citadel of Ash had tested them, but they had emerged stronger, with a deeper understanding of the powers they held.

But the battle against the corruption had only just begun.
