The dragon lifted her head and looked around her dark cavern. She had heard a voice. But from where? She couldn’t tell. She lowered her head back onto her treasures. Oh, the many venturers that had wandered upon her mistakenly to find that they should suffer her wrath. She had many items from travelers of old, and also of new. Those strange glowing objects that they had tried to bribe her with for their escape. What did they call them? iPhones?
But what did it matter any more? She had all she could ever need from this world. But she was still wasn’t satisfied. She needed more. She had been in her cavern too long for her to stand. She needed to see the world. Actually, she should try to rule the world. Those petty creatures out there wouldn’t know what hit them.
There was the noise again. It sounded like a, “Hey!” But where was it coming from? She strained to listen, looking forever over the cave.
“Hey, down here, you ugly beast!” She still couldn’t find the source.
She felt a poke in her side. She looked toward her stomach, where she had felt it. There, as tiny as could be, was a mouse. For crying out loud, a mouse! What a sight! A mouse was calling to her! Ha!
The mouse stood on its hind legs. It wore a cute little outfit. It was what those moderners wore. A “t-shirt” with a “denim” jacket over it. There was a rapier strapped to its side. The dragon could laugh out loud right now, but she held her composure. She leaned down toward the mouse.

“Are you the creature calling out to me?” the dragon asked.
“Yes, I am, actually,” the mouse responded.
The dragon was taken back for being stupid to think that this mouse couldn’t have possibly been the one to call out to her. Her greed might have been getting to her.
“What do you want? My gold? Begone, or I’ll burn you to your death.”
“Well,” the mouse said, “I am here for your gold. But I do not wish to take it for myself. My city, my country, my world is in danger of falling. We need this to help us get back up and start anew.”
The dragon didn’t care. She wanted to keep her gold to herself. What this mouse spoke of must be lies. The mouse was here to take her gold all to himself. Well, he couldn’t have it. His city would have to find some other way to survive.
“I wish I could give it to you, but all travelers here must end this way.” The dragon started to take a deep breath in, but the mouse stood ready. He leapt up onto the dragon. When the dragon exhaled, she burned all the scales the flames had hit, leaving her underskin exposed. The mouse drew his rapier and japped it into her skin multiple times, ensuring the dragon was killed.
The mouse leapt down. The final things the dragon heard were these words from the mouse: “Your greediness got you nowhere in life. I will take this gold to my city and restore all that was lost to me and my family. Good-bye, Ms. Dragon.” And the dragon fell asleep. Never to be woken again.
