Prologue: The Journey of a New Demon
Jake had been in hell for 300 years, his existence a never ending nightmare. Every day, he served as a slave to higher ranking demons. Mocked, humiliated, beaten, whipped, and burned-it had become his daily routine. But now, those memories felt like a distant haze as Jake finally received the opportunity he had long awaited: becoming a Devil's Intern, the first step toward rising in rank in hell.
Jake sat in the waiting room, the atmosphere dimly lit with a greenish-gray glow, reflecting the despair and pressure that permeated the place. A nametag reading "JAKE" hung from his neck, a symbol of his potential new beginning.
A demon sitting nearby struck up a conversation.
"Hey, Jake, right?" the demon asked in a deep voice.
Jake, startled to be recognized, replied, "How do you know?"
The demon pointed to Jake's nametag, chuckling. "It's written right there on your name tag."
"Oh, right! Hahaha. I even forgot I was wearing it," Jake replied with an awkward smile.

They chatted briefly, discussing their hopes for their first assignment on Earth. Jake expressed his desire to become a Crossroad Devil, a demon who tempts humans into making contracts in exchange for their souls. The conversation reignited Jake's excitement, even as his heart raced with anticipation for his name to be called.
Suddenly, a voice echoed from the speaker:
"Soul 1.223.768.736.837.232.363.467. JAKE."
Jake stood up, his body tense yet excited.
"Jake, it's your turn," said the demon beside him.
Jake entered a small room that resembled an interrogation chamber. The walls were gray, and a dim light hung overhead. At the center of the room sat a woman behind a desk, her face expressionless but exuding an undeniable authority.
"Take a seat, Jake," the woman said, her voice firm yet cold.
Jake obeyed, his heart pounding.
"So... Jake, how do you feel about this opportunity?" the woman asked, her sharp gaze fixed on him.
Jake took a deep breath before replying with enthusiasm, "I'm very excited, and I promise to do my best for... uh... this hell."
The woman gave a faint, almost imperceptible smile. "Jake, there's only one hell, and there's no need for overpromising. The most important thing is maintaining the balance between good and evil in the human world. You'll be assigned a mentor who will guide you. They will determine whether you are ready to take on assignments on Earth, work here, or..."
She paused briefly before continuing in an even colder tone, "...return to serving other demons as a slave here."
Her words sent a shiver down Jake's spine. He knew exactly what kind of torment awaited him if he failed. Returning to that life wasn't an option.
"Understood, ma'am. I'll do my best," Jake replied firmly, though fear churned in his gut.
"Good. You'll meet your mentor tomorrow. Best of luck, Jake," the woman said before gesturing that the meeting was over.
Jake left the room with a mix of fear, excitement, and hope. In his heart, he swore to succeed-no matter what it took.
That night, in the darkest corner of hell, Jake prepared for his new journey.
