The Devil's Game
002: Who Is the Devil?

002: Who Is the Devil?

The Devourer has given me a task: take a photo of Sasha King’s private parts and upload it to the company group chat.

If I fail, both Sasha and I will face a death penalty.

Who is Sasha King? She’s the deputy head of the PR department and my direct superior.

Besides being my boss, she is stunning. Though she is married, she rivals the most popular young female influencers, her mature charm heightened by her marital status.

If I had to compare her to a fruit, she’d be a peach—juicy and enticing, the kind you’d want to sink your teeth into.

But Sasha, this peach, is not someone anyone dares to approach casually; she has a fiery temperament.

As my direct supervisor, she’s made my life difficult more times than I can count. Being a beauty, she’s always looked down on me, the so-called loser, and ridiculed me mercilessly. According to her, someone like me—poor and insignificant—would never find a woman,Nobody loves me.

Just earlier, she made me deliver some documents. She had messed up the recipient's name and blamed me for the error in front of many colleagues.

I felt like a complete failure. Even delivering a document could be messed up by me. Her final insult was the worst: people like me are worthless and would only find a partner if a woman were blind.

At that moment, I wanted nothing more than to slap her. She made a mistake and took her frustration out on me. It was infuriating.

But she’s my boss, and I had to bottle up my anger.

Now, The Devourer has tasked me with taking an intimate photo of Sasha and sharing it in the company chat for everyone to see.

How is that even possible?

There’s no way Sasha would agree to this!

But if we fail to complete the task, The Devourer has promised us a death penalty. I don’t know who this devil is, but given they could kill Brooks with a single command, making his heart stop, it’s clear this person is not to be trifled with.

I’m genuinely worried.

I can’t shake the feeling that if Sasha and I don’t follow through, we’ll end up like Brooks.

The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

The death game has caused widespread panic in the company. Even our CEO, Claire, had to address the employees.

She told us, “The killer must be someone within the company. The police are investigating, and I’m confident they’ll get to the bottom of it soon. For now, continue with your work and don’t panic.”

But how can we not panic with a death already on our hands?

Our focus is completely on the death game.

Someone in the group chat asked The Devourer who they are and why they’re playing these games and killing people.

But The Devourer didn’t respond. After issuing the task, they went silent and seemed to have logged off.

At this point, Lily spoke up, “Do you really think the killer is one of us? It doesn’t seem right. The Devourer gave a task, and Brooks ended up dead from heart failure. If it was someone from our company, how did they manage that?”

“What do you mean, Lily? If it’s not someone from our company, who do you think it is?” someone else asked.

Lily glanced at the ceiling and, with a fearful expression, said, “I think the killer might not be human.”

“What? Not human? Then what is it?”

Lily said, “A ghost.”

As soon as Lily mentioned “ghost,” a chill seemed to sweep through the office, causing everyone to shiver.

Lily continued, “I’ve heard that this building is cursed. During its construction, workers uncovered numerous voodoo artifacts—strange dolls and bones.”

“This building has seen deaths before, not just one. Nearly every year, someone dies—either from a fall or sudden death from overwork. Last year, a girl on the fifteenth floor was raped and killed in the elevator.”

The more Lily spoke, the more terrified we became. By the end, even she was trembling and could not continue.

Silence fell over us, and fear pervaded the room.

Just then, Claire’s phone rang, and she answered it.

It was the police. They told Claire that the case was resolved: Brooks died from a heart attack, and there was no evidence of foul play.

Claire tried to ask more questions, but the police quickly hung up.

The police's rushed attitude was odd. It felt too hasty to close the case like this, especially with a death and a death game involved.

“What now? Are the police just going to ignore this?” Sasha asked, clearly anxious since the next task involves her and me.

If the police don’t catch The Devourer, what will happen to her?

Should we complete the task as The Devourer demands?

If we don’t, will The Devourer really kill us?

Sasha’s face turned pale with dread.

No one could answer her. If the task were something minor, like touching Sasha’s hand, we’d all encourage her to do it—better to risk it than face worse consequences.

But now, The Devourer’s task is to take a photo of Sasha King’s private parts and upload it to the group chat.

If Sasha did this, how could she ever face anyone again?

And what about her husband? Would he ever forgive her?

But if she doesn’t complete the task, she’ll have to prepare for death.

As for me, I’m terrified too. Honestly, I want to complete the task.

The Devourer can kill with just a word. Brooks, a living person, dropped dead before our eyes. That’s terrifying. I don’t want to end up like Brooks!

But if Sasha refuses, should I force her?

Forcing her would be illegal and, even if I survive, she would definitely come after me.

Time ticked by, and finally, it was time to leave work.

Afterwards, as colleagues left one by one, my phone buzzed with a message from Sasha.

“Ethan, don’t leave after work. I need to talk to you.”

Seeing this message, I was stunned and then my heart raced. I thought, “Could she be asking me to stay and help her complete the task?”

My heartbeat quickened at the thought.
