Chapter 1

After what felt like a year I woke up in this seemingly strange place. in front of me sat a woman dressed in a red suit, and she was typing away on some strange box of light. Maybe it's magical or something? I thought to myself while scratching my head.

suddenly a scratchy voice sounded “ Are you going to get up or what?”

“What?” I asked in a questioning voice.

“You are sitting on the floor” the receptionist responded

“Oh.” Was the only thing I managed to say. I hadn't even noticed that I was sitting on the floor until she mentioned it, so I just got up and dusted myself off.

“Umm i’m sorry miss, but do you know where i am?”

she replied back with the same scratchy monotone voice. “ you’re in hell.”

“I’m what now?” I was confused. How could I be in hell? Just moments ago, I was back at my work desk. I couldn't possibly be in hell. Could I? No that's not possible. that would mean I… That would mean I was dead. I thought to myself while chuckling like a mad man before full on laughing, doubling over while clutching my stomach, with tears in my eyes. Ohh what a silly thought. I muttered to myself, slowly standing up again, while wiping a tear from my left eye with my hand.

What i hadn't noticed was the receptionist looking at me with a bored expression that said; are you done? so i quickly collected myself and said “Sorry what did you say miss”

“Well what i was preparing to say before.” she made a hand gesture towards me and continued “that. Before you can proceed from here I will need your name, age and cause of death. Some souls can have a hard time remembering their deaths, so if you need a moment you can sit over there.” She said while gesturing to a white chair, standing in the far corner of the surprisingly large office.

That was when it hit me. It felt like I had gotten run over by a train, lieutenant smith. Am I dead? Like dead, dead? Holy shit I need to sit down. I moved to the chair taking my head in my hands looking down. I got shot, I thought to myself. He shot me, that's what he was sent to do.”Wait, THAT BASTARD SHOT ME!” It had started out as barely a whisper but before I knew it I was full on out yelling. “ HE FUCKING SHOT ME!”I continued. While gradually getting angrier and angrier.

“cough cough”

"WHAT!!!?" I yelled while turning my head towards the sound. That's when I remembered I indeed wasn't alone. And hurried to compose myself. “Ooh, I'm so sorry, I think I'm ready to report about my unfortunate incident now.”

"Name?" she started.

“Alexander Rowe."

"Age?" She continued.

“25.”

“And lastly, cause of death?” She ended.

“An angry lieutenant smith that was sent to kill me. He shot me in the head right after telling me I didn't know how to use my brain. Well I guess that doesn't really matter anymore.” I mumbled the last part.

“Annnnd that's how I died.”

I finished off my explanation. while scratching the back of my head and looking down at the red carpet.

“Welcome to hell I hope you have an unpleasant stay, sir. If you go through the gate over there. You will be led directly to hell.” She says while slightly tilting her head towards the gate. As a way to dismiss me.

“I guess I’ll be on my way then?” I said ending up sounding more like a question than I would have liked.

She didn't even look up when she made a hand gesture for me to shove off already.

So I turned towards the gate again and started walking towards it. The gate itself looked like something out of a horror story. You know, big double doors in wood with a stone ?vault?, metal spirals on the doors and so on.

I walked closer and started pulling one of the doors open. It opened to some kind of portal of swirling lights in all different shades of red and black. It felt enchanting, hypnotizing and magnetic. Kind of like it was trying to pull me in and before I knew it, I reached a hesitant hand out towards the portal of swirling lights.

“Shit!” Was the only thing I managed to get out before falling through.

It was like being ripped apart and stitched together over and over again, before it all finally stopped. I slowly got up while feeling dizzy. My senses slowly came back and I looked around.

“Well this is not what i expected at all.”

It was like new york but more messy and crimes were happening right before my eyes. And people looked so weird! Like why does that guy look like a shark and why does she look like a circus clown?

Then what do I look like? I slowly tilted my head downwards and looked at my body. I was dressed in a long black coat and it looked like I had pencil smudges here and there. My pants were a shade of gray and so were my vest and my shirt was white just like my skin.

Wait. Why does my skin have no color?! How? Why? WHEN? I stopped myself before I could panic too much. I hurried over to a nearby window to see my reflection, to make sure my eyes weren't deceiving me. And just like I feared, I was in fact in the same colors of the animations I was oh so used to drawing. Black and white.
