19 - The Demon Lord's Summoning Has Gone Somewhat Okay

Pain was rapidly pulled through the sky to the dueling opponents. As he dangled from the flying broom in a manner that resembled a chandelier, he had a thought:

"Maybe I should have learned how to do a pull-up," Pain said aloud with a sigh.

The Dark Commander decided there was no use in dwelling on things that we're currently out of his control and instead began to think about things in his control. He decided to determine the best one-liner he could make when he sent the two to the other world.

Unfortunately for him. Onyx's broom was the fastest mode of travel in the world. At top speeds, it could easily surpass the fastest planes in Pain's old world. Onyx had set the broom to max speed, something that could end Pain's life if he were not as versed in magic as he was.

From the ashes of the two colossal transformations, the former Demon Lord and Holy Queen took back to the sky. They faced each other with magical lightning crackling all around them. The wind furiously whipped their hair and clothes, and their eyes glowed with energy.

It was this scene that the broomstick, in which Pain hung on to, flew up and stopped next to. The two foes turned their heads to look at the person who interrupted their fight.

"Wassup, I came to stop you," Pain said while he gripped the broom tighter as not to slip off and plummet.

Neither the Holy Queen nor the former Demon Lord said anything. A gust of wind suddenly blew Pain away from the fight. The broomstick struggled to float in the same spot, and Pain spun on the bar like he was doing gymnastics. When his feet were up in the air, he managed to maneuver so that he landed in a more seated position on the broomstick.

Pain silently gave himself a pat on the back for the maneuver he would not be able to ever pull off again while the broomstick stabilized in the wind. The former Demon Lord and Holy Queen looked his way as he made a happy cheer for himself.

"Maggot, I will kill you when this fight is over!" they both yelled simultaneously. The duo glared at each other with hateful eyes.

"Well, good to see you two are on the same page. Maybe you will be able to keep each other good company," Pain said as his fist lit up with magical energy. He flipped his hair in the wind and smiled at them in an attempt to strike a dramatic pose.

The former Demon Lord and the Holy Queen began to fire a barrage of magical shots at him. The broomstick had to jaggedly fly all over the sky so that Pain would not be hit with an attack. To an observer, it may have appeared they were panicking to get rid of Pain before he could cast his new spell. In reality, they were using as little energy as possible to swat an annoying fly away.

"Fly up!" Pain yelled at the broom. It went along with him and headed up to the sky until it broke free of the colorful bullet hell the duo was creating. When they were clear, Pain carefully put his feet onto the broomstick and leapt off.

The former Demon Lord and Holy Queen looked up at Pain while stopping their attacks.

"He must just be stupid," the former Demon Lord said.

"He is a fool to be sure," the Holy Queen agreed in an odd moment of alignment between the two.

"Alright! Time for you two to... See you in... ah whatever. Goodbye!" Pain, who had not had enough time to prepare his finishing line, yelled as he threw his fist forward.

As he punched the empty air high above the duo, the magical energy burst off his fist. It flew to the pair while taking the shape of a truck. They scoffed at the level of attack that flew their way. To them, the magic was not strong enough to do any form of damage. They decided to brush the spell off and turned to each other to continue their fight. The magical truck collided with the former Demon Lord and Holy Queen, engulfing them in the energy. It quickly dissipated, and the duo that had just been engaged in a world-ending conflict had disappeared.

"Whew, glad that worked," Pain said while wiping his brow, "Okay, broom, you can catch me now!"

Pain looked over to the broom, which was now falling along with him. Pain turned his gaze from the broom to the ground, which was quickly approaching. Then he looked back to the broom, which appeared to be out of magic.

"Well, that's unfortunate," Pain said out loud.

Meanwhile, or actually a little before Pain cast his spell, the others continued to watch along in the castle.

"Do you think he will be okay?" the Demon Lord asked, now sounding slightly concerned.

"Even if he died, I feel like it still wouldn't kill him," the Hero said with a sigh.

"I don't know, they are firing a lot of shots at him right now..." the Holy Princess said with a hint of concern in her voice.

"Don't worry, once he gets out of that, all he has to do is hit them with the spell and fly back. As long as he doesn't do anything like jump off the broom, he will be fine!" Onyx cheerily said.

It was at this moment that Pain jumped off the broom.

The crowd just stared at the sight with deadpan expressions.

"He jumped," the Holy Princess said in a blank tone.

"He sure did," the Hero affirmed in the same tone.

"Pain why!" Onyx cried out. She put her hands to her mouth, "Huh, I never told him that he has to keep putting magic in the broom to fly it!" she suddenly realized.

The Demon Lord ran forward and stopped short of just falling out of the hole in the castle's wall.

"Pain!" she yelled as he was blasting the duo with his spell. Without much thought, she leapt out of the castle. The wings on her back suddenly grew large, and she took off to the sky. She didn't even comprehend it herself for the first few seconds.

Moments later, she caught Pain in the air. She grabbed him under his arms so that he was hanging below her as they soared through the sky.

"Oh hey, you're flying!" he shouted with a smile.

"Don't say anything," she replied sharply.

"Oh, but I thought of lots of great things to say if this day ever came!"

"I can always let go of you."

"I'll wait until we get to ground then!"

"I'd prefer if you didn't say anything at all," the Demon Lord sighed. They flew in silence for a moment before Pain spoke back up.

"Hey, Charlotte."

"What now!"

"Thanks for saving me!" Pain said, looking up at her with a smile. The Demon Lord turned her red face away from his.

"Idiot, what kind of Demon Lord lets her Dark Commander die in such pathetic manner."

"So, if I died going down in a fight, that would be okay?" Pain asked a leading question with a smirk. The Demon Lord didn't answer.

"Let's just go back to the castle!" The Demon Lord shouted as they flew down to the ground below.
