S2 Chapter Five: Encounter in the Forest

I accidentally posted this chapter before I proofread... you don't want to see my chapters before I proofread... I make a lot of mistakes, it's painful... Aii~ don't yell at me. Anyway, this is the last chapter today.

The sun had set and the moon was now shining brightly along with the stars in the night sky. In the gardens of the school Opinum, three people sat under an apple tree.

“We’re all in the same class,” Tear said happily, she was laying on her stomach while kicking her feet back and forth joyfully.

“Myth, just like Rose said,” Erebus said, leaning against the tree and eating some of the mana stones he had brought from home.

The three had managed to score perfectly on the written test and on the magic gauge, instantly making them the best within the freshmen class, no, within the entire school. The concept of “keeping a low-profile” didn’t last for long. Instead, they did the exact opposites and became the famous transfer students within a matter of hours.

“It’s a shame I can’t sleep with Lord Erebus, though.” Tear sighed heavily. The female and male dorms were separated and males weren’t allowed in female dorms and vice versa. They could only be on the first and second floor together. Even then, the boys or girls couldn’t stay past sundown.“Humans are such prudes.”

“Ignoring her,” Vye said. “Lord Erebus, how do you plan on gathering the information for the Dragon Council?”

“I’ll have to actually meet the students to know if there’s anything strange about them. With my eye constantly revealed it’s a bit of a headache, but I have to be on alert.”

Tear sat up. “The eye hurts you?”

“Mm. I get headaches after a while, that’s why I typically have it covered. I’m basically processing two different sets of information constantly, after a while, I get a little disoriented.”

Tear swallowed, she had thought Erebus wore the eyepatch because he thought it looked cool on him. There was an actual reason behind it, how surprising.

She still didn’t understand how his Eye of the Void really worked, but she was able to piece together that he could see mana that was invisible to the rest of them.

“We’ll have our first class tomorrow, from what Rose told us, there aren’t many people in the Myth class, and since they’re freshmen, I doubt any of them have been used for the change yet,” Erebus murmured. “I’ll need to meet with the seniors and juniors somehow.”

Vyne nodded. “That’s true. Rose said that there were multiple classes that the four years were intermixed, so, it shouldn’t be that hard for you to meet some. I’ve already begun to look into the student body in order to find out who’s suspicious.”

“As expected of Vyne,” Erebus said, patting his subordinate on the head.

“I have a weapon of my own,” Tear spoke up, also wanting to be patted on the head.

“What?”

She smirked. “Don’t underestimate the power of us females.”

“Don’t tell me...” Vyne’s face paled dramatically. “You’re going to sell your body for information.”

The sound of skin smacking against skin resounded throughout the night. A red hand-print formed on Vyne’s face.

“What do you think I am!” Tear screamed, raising her hand to hit him again.

“A whoring pig,” Vyne responded.

Erebus ignored the violence and turned his head to the sky, eating his stone. “What a peaceful night, truly the embodiment of tranquility.”

Indeed, Erebus, this was a lovely night.

...

Under the same sky as Erebus and his fighting servants, two figures made their way down a hill. One was a young boy holding a map, and the other was a man who towered over the child.

Respectively, they were Weryn and Magnus.

Weryn kept glancing at the map as he walked. “Erebus marked this spot on, but I don’t see any indication that there was any type of building here. There are no clearings large enough for a house to be built and there’s hardly any wildlife or edible plants around here to sustain anyone.”

Magnus nodded his head sadly in agreement. The quality of soil around these parts was low and there were too many monsters, so there weren’t many settlements nearby, meaning that one would have to get the food on their own.

That being said, the monsters in this place weren’t any pushover. Weryn and Magnus had run into quite a few of them and deemed that they would be difficult opponents if the two were any weaker than what they currently were. It’d probably be tiresome, no matter the person, to live in a place where they were constantly under attack.

Most monsters weren’t even edible unless you had the ridiculous constitution of a dragon. They were immune to the majority of poisons, and their stomachs could break down nearly everything.

But since the person here was definitely not a dragon, they would need some type of edible food supply.

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

“Well, even if we can find the slightest trace of her existence around here, it’ll help us find out even more about her.”

The young dragon nodded his head. “Let’s search diligently.”

“Nya~ you don’t have to worry about that, I’m already here,” an irritatingly high-pitched voice spoke up. “Who are you, nya?”

Weryn and Magnus instantly went on guard. “You should tell us who you are first,” Magnus said, his killing intent leaking out.

“Nyaha! How dangerous, I’m scared.”

The verbal tick on this one was grinding on Weryn’s nerves. “Are you perhaps the one Erebus was searching for?”

“Erebus?” A massive burst of power exploded, even making Magnus’ heart waver for a second. “You were sent by that bastard, nya!”

Bastard...? Weryn could hear the obvious anger in that person’s voice, it was probably the one Erebus had sent them to find. But Weryn had been under the impression that they were on good terms.

“Nya, how dare he?” the voice trembled with fury. “Why are you here? Tell me, what is your purpose... nya?” The last “nya” was tacked on as if they had forgotten.

“To ask a favor of you,” Weryn answered, still trying to locate the source of the voice and energy.

The surge of power increased. “A favor, nya?” The sound of bushes rustling could be heard and a blur of a figure charged at Weryn. A clawed hand reached out and clutched Weryn’s face, slamming him into the ground and causing the entire earth to quiver and created a blast so strong that the surrounding trees were uprooted and sent away. The chunks of earth stayed in the air as if they had been frozen before falling to the ground.

On top of Weryn was a naked female who only wore a skimpy loincloth and had paint smears underneath her black eyes, a single line drawn over her nose and mouth. A cat tail flicked back and forth while two ears were twitching.

Weryn’s face, despite the predicament he was in, reddened at the sight of the naked woman.

“How scandalous,” Magnus said, taking a mental photo. “Weryn’s first experience as a young man.” He wasn’t very concerned about Weryn’s safety, in his mind, the kid could take care of himself.

The catwoman had her sharp nails pressed against Weryn’s jugular. “Erebus sent you?”

He nodded, his eyes tried to stay on her face, but they kept drifting downwards to two naked globes. He didn’t find this situation pleasing in any way, rather, it was incredibly uncomfortable for him.

Suddenly, the intense atmosphere dissipated and a broad smile brightened her otherwise average features and added a beauty to her face. “Is that so? Erebus isn’t a name I’ve heard in awhile. That bastard left mighty quickly after he ate through my supply of mana stones.” She got off of Weryn and folded her arms over her chest, popping her left hip out. “What does he want?”

“The ‘nya’...” Weryn muttered. “It’s gone.” He stood up and confirmed his suspicions that she had been forcing herself to say “nya”.

Her eyes widened. “Nya? What are you talking about, nya? I never forget my nya, nya!”

She totally forgot.

“Excuse me, Miss...”

“Mae, nya.” She wrapped an arm around Weryn. “But it’s okay if you call me Big Sis, I’ve never had a little brother before.”

She was promptly shaken off.

“Miss Mae, my name is Weryn and this is my companion, Magnus. We were both sent here by Lord Erebus to request your assistance with an incredibly issue entrusted to him by the Dragon Council.” Weryn dug into his pouch and pulled out a folded piece of paper. “Here.”

Mae snatched the paper out of Weryn’s hand, pushing her dirty blonde hair out of her face as she read.

Magnus and Weryn watched her expression change into a serious one as her eyes moved over the words. Her eyebrows furrowed and her thin lips pulled into a frown.

Her expression cleared and was replaced by its easy-going smile from before. “Nya? How interesting, to think the humans did something like this. Mm, I’ll help out if he pays me.”

Erebus had foreseen this, so Magnus unclasped the heavy sack of gold coins from his belt and walked over to Mae and Weryn. “Is this enough?”

She stretched out her free hand, Magnus put the coins in her hand. “This should be enough, nya~” She tossed the coins up and down. “I’ll be a freeloader at his place too... Oops, I said that out loud.”

A few moments of silence passed over them.

Mae looked at Magnus and Weryn before clearing her throat. “Nya, I’ll work in his castle because I’m sure the materials there would be the most suitable for my work!”

Magnus and Weryn both gave her disbelieving looks, they couldn’t believe she tried to make such a clunky recovery after her true intentions had slipped out. She seriously tried to act as if nothing had happened, she was shameless!

But somehow, it wasn’t hard for them to understand why Erebus and she were friends.
