Q.“Just who is the Demon King of Greed.”
“Hmmm, who is Greed? Well where do I start…”
“Well to put it simply, he's the Demon King the High Lords fear the most. He’s not the strongest, nor the one that’s lived the longest, nor the hardest to kill, but he’s definitely the most troublesome Demon King in existence.”
Q.“The most troublesome? Could you elaborate?”
“Well let’s cover our bases first, you see Greed is anomaly of sorts. For example, what race is he?
Q.“If I recall, according to the records and witness testimonies, Greed is a Demon of the Horned tribe. Though unlike a majority of his tribe he doesn’t have blue or pale white skin, but skin like ours. Oh and his horn is broken too.”
“You seem well informed, and that’s more or less how it is now, but in the past Greed was Human.”
Q.“What? But that’s impossible. To be a Demon King you need a fragment of the Demon God, and only Demons and monsters are born with those!”
“And that’s what makes Greed an anomaly. He’s one of the two Humans in history to ever voluntarily become a Demon King. Ah, no let me correct myself. I suppose I should one of the three Humans now shouldn’t I?”
Q.“Three, what do you mean!?
“I’ve overstepped my bounds a little bit, let’s get back on topic shall we?”
Q.“That’s...very well. So, what makes Greed so troublesome?”
“It’s simple really, because he doesn’t act like a Demon King.”
Q.“Excuse me?”
“In total our world has seen the rise and fall of dozens of Demon Kings, and we’ve of the academy have recorded down every minute detail. We’ve written down each and every one of their abilities, personalities, general history, race, backgrounds, who’ve they killed, what they’ve destroyed, and how they’ve lived their entire lives. Using all this data we’ve not only been able to approximate the timeframe a new Demon King could be born, but where it would be born.”
Q.“Is that why we haven’t seen many new Demon Kings as of late?”
“No, even if we can approximate the timeframe and location, it’s still merely an approximation. We still have to inevitably deal with a host of new Demon Kings, but by studying them we’ve been having an easier time doing so. After all, there are only Seven Fragments of the Demon God’s will, and each of them are rather extreme in nature. It makes the Demon Kings easy to predict as they themselves don’t follow any form of common sense or logic, but merely the mad desires of the Demon God. But...”
Q.“The Demon King of Greed is different.”
“Precisely, Greed wasn’t born consumed by the Demon God’s madness, he was a Human who learned to write, read, and think. And he just so happened to stumble upon a fragment that was still in the midst of recovering after losing it’s host. The Demon God’s madness couldn’t consume him, he represhed it with his rationale, but his Greed was genuine, and he desired something even as taboo as the might of a Demon King.”
Q.“That’s...frightening.”
“Yes, very. There are records of a Demon King like Greed existing over a thousand years ago, and he plunged the world into chaos before he disappeared. But other than him, every other Demon King until now have been simply mindless beasts. But those three are different, they’re living calamities who can think.”
Q.“But why? Why did Greed throw away his Humanity.”
“He’s searching for something. The records show Greed hasn’t been just wantonly walking around stealing and destroying everything like his predecessors. Everywhere he goes is intentional and with purpose. He’s looking for something.”
The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.
Q.“Do you know what that is?”
“We have some theories. The first major incident involving Greed was when Greed stole one of the High Kings, Crowns, specifically the King of Man’s. Following that he killed an Immemorial Dragon and took merely left with the heart. Then he entered the Dwarven Chief’s Treasury and stole the Cursed Fool’s Gold. Entered the Elven Forest, and cut off a massive branch off the World Tree. Before entering the Spirit’s World, to steal the Fountain of Youth. Afterwards Greed disappeared for nearly a decade, or so the records claim, but...”
Q.“Does the Academy know where Greed went?”
“Yes, because Greed came here.”
Q.“What!? What did he steal?”
“Nothing, Greed came here having disguised himself, and studied. He studied for years, memorizing and learning every little thing we had to offer. Then he went off into the Dungeons, and when he emerged he had stolen the Dungeon’s Core.”
Q.“The Dungeon’s Core? It exists? But why would he steal the Core?”
“To remain eternal.”
Q.“What?”
“The Dungeon’s originate from the Demon God, and as you know there are seven Fragments. But so far throughout history only six of the fragments have really shown themselves? So just where was the last fragment? It was within the Dungeon’s core. The Fragment of Sloth, the piece that held the power of Eternity”
Q.“Is that what Greed wanted?”
“No, it was merely a part of his plan. Following his acquisition of the Dungeon Core, he killed the Demon King of Envy and stole their fragment.”
Q.“Greed has three fragments? But wait, there currently exists a Demon King of Envy.”
“Of course one exists, no one person possesses the ability to possess three fragments in their entirety. But what Greed did do was further break them down into pieces. He assimilated Envy into himself and gained Omniscience. The he assimilated Sloth and gained Eternity. And with the inherent power of Greed that gave him Control, he began to twist the fate of the world.”
Q.“What?”
“Yes, with three fragments of the Demon God, he possessed nearly half the strength of a true God. With the power of Envy and Sloth combined, he was able to view everything that has happened, is happening, and will ever happen all at once. As if looking at the entire history of the world from the outside. And with the power of Greed, which allowed everything to be within his grasp, he began to control everything in the world such that every possible choice everyone makes would lead to a single, ultimate conclusion.”
Q.“This, this has to be impossible. The High Lords would never allow this to happen!”
“You’re right, but they are powerless. To show this to them, Greed went as far as to steal the very Sun, Moon, and Stars, forcing the High Lords to have to recreate replicas.”
Q.“That’s...but how could he steal celestial bodies?”
“It’s because Greed has already transcended the realm of mortals, but he’s already a Demi-god.”
Q. “But I still don’t get it, why do all of this? What is this all for?”
“Nothing, there is no reason, this was simply his desire. Greed desires everything, this isn’t limited to merely objects. He wants to control whether it rains or snows, whether it’s night or day. He even wants to control his own fate, even going as far as to control how he dies.”
Q.“And to that end he would send the world tumbling into chaos, and kill himself?”
“Precisely.”
