Chapter 73

As the corruption washed over Akahaziel, he howled in agony as it seeped into the wounds from his battle with Uriel. He arched his back in pain and then collapsed forward onto his knees. Dmitri backed away towards Wayte and Claudia, Uriel landing beside him. “You did well for a mortal Dmitri,” said Uriel with a rare smile.

“Is it over?” asked Claudia hopeful.

“Yes, you could say that,” replied Uriel and then turned to Dmitri. “I will finish him if you like?”

Dmitri nodded numbly and handed the sword back to Uriel. The Arch-angel took the blade and walked over to where Akahaziel was on his knees, howling in pain, “It is time Akahaziel,” said Uriel.

Akahaziel replied through clenched teeth, “Time for you to die!” he arched back, swinging out a clawed hand. Uriel put his arm up to catch the blow with his armguard. The swing kept going, the force and power behind it much more than the demon should be able to bring to the fore. Uriel was sent hurtling backwards, only slowing by spreading his wings and taking to the air.

“Dmitri!” he called out, “Again!”

Still linked with Claudia, Dmitri began to summon the elemental shields once more.

Akahaziel watched them with dark intent, but was thrown into agony once more as his body was wracked with pain once again. His back began to ripple and pulsate, the pain threatened to rip him apart. His back arched and great black bat-like wings exploded out of his flesh sending blood and ichors everywhere. As the wings unfurled, Akahaziel gingerly stretched them out and his face took on a malevolent grin.

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

“Hurry!” pleaded Claudia to Dmitri as the third shield popped into being around him. He began to summon up fire as the last elemental shield.

Akahaziel leapt into the air and flapped his mighty wings, only to come crashing back to the earth, his wings not quite ready for flight. In a fury, he began to unleash a barrage of corruption into the air at Uriel.

The fire shield popped up around Dmitri and he and Claudia focused together to transmute it into a single powerful shield. Akahaziel stopped his mad barrage of chaos towards Uriel in the sky above to observe the two humans.

“Watch out!” cried Wayte as one of the demonic legion battered its way past his defences to attack Dmitri. It’s clawed talons raked across his chest but made contact with the shield. The shield exploded, its magic coursing through the demon. Tendrils of liquid fire erupted from the demons veins, rapidly snaking all over its body cutting off its air and very soon its life.

Wayte regained the advantage and pushed back the demons once more. Dmitri and Claudia gathered their magical energies and once more Dmitri began to summon the elemental shields.

Uriel, busy dodging Akahaziel’s frenzied attacks was too distracted to notice that the corruption being launched at him was performing the exact purpose that Akahaziel had in mind, to cause chaos and confusion. Akahaziel took this opportunity to strike, Uriel was occupied, Wayte was fighting a losing battle, so that left Dmitri and Claudia. Once the link between the two was gone, he could finish them at his leisure. Without any further hesitation, he loosed a blast of corruption at Claudia. The blast hit her in the chest and she collapsed to the ground.
