Chapter 10: Another Unpleasant…

"As Noah said, Auntie, Noah can't make any promises yet because Uncle's proposal will take up quite a large budget," I said in a slightly trembling voice.

“Is that so…” said Countess Coisenmo sounding ambiguous and mysterious.

We are now back to our original position. The table has also been cleared by the waiters on Oliver's orders. As the atmosphere looks awkward again about where to go next with this conversation, even thinking about starting a conversation will not connect each point anymore. Countess Coisenmo is still restless or doesn't feel tired at all as she keeps pressuring me to give an answer about her husband's proposal or regarding my answer regarding my position as duke which she asked me to rescind. I don't want to believe that they want me to kick them out of my residence and use it as an excuse to show how immature I am. But considering what they've done in the past, I believe they are still acting on the orders of that bastard figure who the empire still recognizes as my father and unfortunately is a trusted person of the emperor himself.

Actually, if it weren't for the letter given by Countess Coisenmo, I would love to want to kick them out right now, also not to mention the demand from Count Coisenmo who wanted me to rescind my right to become a duke. For some reason, it immediately evaporated and was not discussed again until now. I don't want to believe that they want me to kick them out of my residence and use it as an excuse to show how immature I am. But considering what they've done in the past, I believe they are acting on the orders of that bastard figure who the empire still recognizes as my father and unfortunately is a trusted person of the emperor himself.

Actually, if it weren't for the letter given by Countess Coisenmon from the emperor. It makes me want to kick them out right now.

"Oh look what time it is now? I have a tea party with Baroness Altamira," Countess Coisenmo suddenly exclaimed as she looked at the clock showing 11 am. Meanwhile, Count Coisenmo didn't seem able to do much, he even chose to remain silent even though his expression was flat, I could see the displeasure in his eyes.

Oliver himself always stood behind me watching all the drama that happened today. Maybe if I don't hold him back, he will get emotional and make the atmosphere even more chaotic.

"Are you going to leave? I wanted to invite you and uncle to join me for lunch?" I said while holding my aunt's hand tightly with a hopeful look.

"Yes dear, forgive your aunt because I have to go first, maybe you will hate your aunt for leaving you for a tea party," she looked unconcerned, "... but you need to know dear, your uncle will do everything he can to help you, right dear?” asked Countess Coisenmo to her husband who just answered in a nod. Still, the sense of awkwardness can be felt.

I held my breath as they prepared to leave for Baroness Altamira's 'tea party'. After everything was done, Countess Coisenmo came and hugged me while saying, “Should you need anything, dear, I’ll always be watching over your back!”

Do you mean backstabbing me?

With a wide, happy smile from corner to corner of my lips, I said in a cheerful tone, "Of course auntie, I will always call auntie 'if' something happens to me."

I immediately lunged back at auntie and hugged her tightly, "I'm sure auntie will always 'watch' me from behind, right?"

Countess Coisenmo smiled warmly but falsely, "Of course dear, oh, right, it's your twin cousin's birthday soon..."

Twins?

Ah... yes, I remember, the twins Lucius and Lucian. The two mischievous and slightly unique twin brothers.

I don't remember much about them. They are a little bit younger than me. What is clear is that they seem to have started a quiet life in the capital after attending Crystal Hill College.

In the game, I didn't see or find them either. Hmm... I'm curious about their appearance.

"Noah dear, make sure you can come, they will have their birthday in June, right on the same sign as their constellation, Solatin? What a coincidence that they were born in the middle of the year, and twins, under the sign of the twin constellation, Solatin. The prophecy from the temple of St. Hurios said that they will bring good luck to all of us!" she said happily.

I replied no less enthusiastically and happily, "Of course auntie, I will come to their party!"

"That's good then, ah... why are we still talking when I have an appointment!" said Countess Coisenmo in a tone of pretend surprise.

In front of the residence, together with Oliver, we saw Count and Countess Coisenmo off. While Count Coisenmo looked cold, indifferent, and quiet. It seems that's what he is like when he has lost a fight. The same as I saw at our last meeting. In contrast with Countess Coisenmo who’s waving her hands, I reply too with a bright smile as the carriage goes and leaves the Albright Manor.

I looked at Oliver who walked closer to me, still with the same unbothered gaze as when he met the Coisenmo couple. I returned and watched the empty garden where Coisenmo’s carriage had just left.

He said in a small but firm and blunt tone that I could hear him, "Good acting, my lord!"

I just smiled. I had expected that Oliver would know that I was just acting otherwise Oliver would not stay silent.

"You knew?" I asked with a curious tone.

Oliver bowed his body, "There's no way I didn't know, sir, my eyes are clear enough to examine their attitudes, temperaments, behaviors, and facial expressions. Surely you also realized my presence during your meeting, right?"

I nodded my head.

Oliver has indeed been the head servant at Albright Manor for a long time, more or less from when he was young as a personal servant to my grandfather, to my mother, and now to myself. I guess he got a lot of experience during that period. Why from his figure do I realize that he resembles someone else that I watch on TV?

Who was that, unlike on TV, Oliver was not that bald but not that thin too…

Ah..forget it. I'll think about it later. What is clear is that right now I need to see the letter.

“Oliver, where’s the letter?”

“In the study!” answered Oliver in a firm tone.

“Right, thank you!”

“You're welcome sir, oh lunch?” as we both took our separate ways, Oliver went to the kitchen and I went upstairs.

“Simple and juicy!” I answered while at the stairs.

“Right away sir!”

As I passed the family picture of mine. Thank god that bastard's fake father was not in the frame. I leave the picture and go to my study.

Meanwhile…

At the carriage that just entered the bustling city of Silverwood, the capital of Solunoct Duchy. The couple Count and Countess Coisenmo still sit face to face in a cold and quiet atmosphere. "What's wrong, honey?" asked Countess Coisenmo in a soft and gentle tone.

Count Coisenmo was still silent, looking at the street. He looked at his wife and did not answer her questions, he looked indifferent and chose to turn his face back to the street.

“Huh…” scoffed Countess Coisenmo, “Don't pretend you didn't hear it, Titus!” despite how soft her words were, it sounded like a piercing knife.

“And what if I heard you talking, my dear wife?” asked Count Coisenmo with such a tone that sounded defiant towards Countess Coisenmo, his wife. Countess Coisenmo just chuckled while shrugging her shoulders, "It's okay, it seems like my husband is a little 'upset', right?"

But her husband chose to remain silent, making Countess Coisenmo smile again and laugh softly, which could hypnotize anyone with that beautiful voice, "I know you're angry because I handed over the letter, right?"

"If you know why did you do it?" Count Cosienmo pressed while crossing his arms across his chest.

Melodious laughter echoed in the horse-drawn carriage that had now left Silverwood and was now on a fairly busy street with several merchants passing by. At Countess Coisenmo's request, as soon as she left the Albright residence, the horse-drawn carriage had to be accelerated without arousing suspicion from Noah, her nephew.

Count Coisenmo himself was confused, about what was his wife thinking. After the high-pitched, melodious, and echoing laughter ended, Countess Coisenmo looked at the figure who had been her husband for 20 years and two children. Her friendly face was well covered by the make-up and makeup she wore.

For Countess Coisenmo, this marriage from the beginning was a hard slap for her who was blinded and fooled by the love and sweet words of the nitwit figure in front of her. Her life changed from a graceful and dignified woman to a stupid, foolish, and low-minded woman because she was deceived by a figure who was truly a sycophant in her life.

She wanted to scream, slap, and tear apart the figure who was openly in love with the housemaid. It was still fresh in her memory, just yesterday, she saw and heard again the figure of the housemaid who had become her husband's illicit concubines. Not only one, even the 60-year-old maid who had served her since she was little also did not escape being the target of her husband's lascivious eyes.

In fact, Helena could have kicked Titus out of her residence, but the handsome Bailey Winfield who was her friend in complaining made her unwilling to end their 'friendship', plus the connection with the capital really opened Helena's eyes to the lives of the noble ladies in the capital. She felt very happy that she was experiencing a second puberty, where her heart beat faster every time she met Bailey.

Forget Countess Coisenmo's strange thoughts and return to Countess Coisenmo who says, "It seems that my husband forgot, that we can take advantage of this incident. So I will explain briefly..."

"So… my dear, did you hear? Little Noah came to me in tears, practically clinging to my clothes like a lost child," Countess Coisenmo drawled, throwing a glance over her shoulder at Count Coisenmo, who only responded with a smug smirk. "Oh, I’ll be sure to inform the ladies at Baroness Altamira's tea party that our so-called 'duke' is nothing more than a sniveling, weak little boy—pathetic and pitifully fragile." Her words dripped like venom, each syllable a barb that lodged painfully in the hearts of those listening. Count Coisenmo was still waiting for his wife who seemed like she would be making a long drama, "... the emperor certainly wouldn't like to hear gossip that a future duke, even though he is the heir and 17 years old," asked the Countess who got a nod from her husband.

"So?" asked Count Coisenmo in a hung tone.

"Of course, isn't your wife very smart? I will use the tears of my crybaby niece on my expensive dress to the ladies and prove to them that my strange niece is indeed just a pitiful 12-year-old child!" explained Countess Coisenmo excitedly.

Meanwhile, Count Coisenmo just shook his head and rubbed his forehead, "Sometimes I'm confused whether I married a cunning or stupid woman or both!" muttered Count Coisenmo.

"Okay, if that's your idea, now explain to me, where is the sign of his cry, dear?" asked Count Coisenmo in a stifled tone.

"What sign? Of course here..." when Countess Coisenmo tried to show the sign that Noah was crying; suddenly her satisfied and happy expression disappeared, replaced by pale and scared like seeing a ghost, cold sweat started to come out, and her face looked increasingly white as if she had lost blood.

“What? What should I see? I could see only a plain white dress like someone wants to have another marriage?” scoffed Count Coisenmo.

"Im...im...impossible..." she stuttered seeing that in reality, her dress was still dry and there were no visible tear marks at all on her dress. Countess Coisenmo even pulled her dress and checked where the tear marks were, because she was sure that Noah had cried on her expensive dress. She can feel that the tears on her dress run down inside her, but she was stupid enough to understand that it was only two tears which she thought was enough to have the stain of a cry visible.

This time there was a laugh that sounded mocking from Titus, her husband laughing at her, his wife, "Hahaha... ouch…hahahahaha...hahahaha…”, Countess Coisenmo who was now blushing suppressed her anger so as not to shout at her husband for laughing at her.

"Ouch...ah...ahahahahaha....oh my gosh I didn't expect it..." Count Coisenmo's laughter became clearer even though he tried to hold it back but the ticklish feeling never wanted to go away from him. Truly, never in his life had his wife been right on the line between being truly stupid and/or an idiocy that had just been seen.

Meanwhile, Countess Helena Coisenmo could only suppress the shame, anger, and defeat that surged from within her. Both of her hands tightly gripped the dress she was wearing, never in her life had she had to admit although not publicly, that indeed she was being a fool.

"I didn't expect that my wife could be blown away by her nephew's trickery!" mocked Count Coisenmo.

"Noah would never do that!" Helena growled she didn't want to look like she was defending herself but she didn't want to admit that she had been played by her nephew.

Count Titus Coisenmo just waved his left hand, he then crossed his arms, still smiling, and said in quite a cynical tone, "It's up to you to say whatever you want, what's clear is that you've been defeated by your nephew who has an innocent face on your face!”

“But…”

He raised his right hand to stop his wife babbling, he took a deep breath to calm his laugh, “Enough my wife, it seems our marriage has fallen apart don’t you think?” asked Titus while leaning forward.

“And why do you think that?” asked Helena while frowning, maybe from outside she looked like that but deep down, she was split between being afraid that her little secret would be exposed and the fact that she hated when her husband started to bring word of marriage to this situation.

Titus only shrugged, “You see how we were just toyed with by our nephew, the fact that we as adults were being toyed with by our nephew the same age as our kids, it was a shame and unacceptable. As adults, we should show Noah that we should be in charge. But look..." Titus spread his arms wide to show their current condition. Never in Titus' life had he been fooled, defeated, or cornered, and he could not accept this defeat by some 12-year-old kid.

Count Coisenmo slowly moved towards his wife and sat beside her, "Honey..." he said while holding his wife's hand.

"We must be strong, honey, we must show your strange nephew that we are adults and we must be in charge to lead him, and he must bow to the adults!" said Count Coisenmo trying to convince his wife, but to Countess Coisenmoe, she felt that this was just one of the tricks made by her husband to show that he was actually smart.

“By asking him to rescind his right as duke?” sneered Helena, while replying to the grip of her husband on her hands. Titus's expression suddenly changed a little, he put on a confused face, "It's not that dear, but does it make sense to you for a 12-year-old child to hold the position of duke? Of course, it's not dear," Titus immediately moved to his wife's side, "Dear, I need your support, we need to end this madness," he kissed both of his wife's hands.

Helena's face blushed in red as spade from her husband's treatment, but slowly her heart, which had been frozen for almost a month after the incident she watched, now stupidly started to melt again against the man who became her first love. Finally after so long of not getting attention from her husband who was busy with his lover, now got his attention again. Indeed she loved her husband but unfortunately, she couldn’t let go of that feeling while her mind was also yelling at her that this was just another show that her husband was indeed just a pawn.

Titus' hands move to touch his wife’s beautiful face, "...I know you might not agree, but I need your support dear,” his hands rubbed Helena’s red lips, “....because without you, what would I do in this mortal world, you are the only person who wants to accept me as your husband. As a husband, it is only proper for me to protect what you want and act as your husband, as your life partner, as the protector of the mother of my children,”

Slowly, Titus' face came closer and whispered to Helena’s ear, “Honey, no matter how much you doubt me about my love, you’re the love, the sunshine, the light, the best gift heaven could give to me. I love you from the bottom of my heart.” Helena’s face could only redden hearing those sweet words that made her heart beat fast and wanted to explode with this happy feeling. As Titus and Helena are face to face, with an unfortunately handsome face, gentle care, and sweet words meet the weak but entitled heart and strong will of Helena, leading to this…

“So dear, would you agree with me that it was impossible for your nephew to become a duke?" just then before she could reply. Titus kissed her and started to make out with her.

Didn't they forget about something?
