Immortals.

Beings that rule and have domain over the Navic fabric, powerful beings who wield the essence of Nava, the very space that contains reality, on a vast scale that can bring ruin to any planet or system. The attention of these beings turned to humanity as we tried to explore the power of the newly discovered null energy. This null energy, or as later termed, Nava, was observed to occupy atomic space once thought to be empty.

However, as humanity dove deeper and deeper into the secrets of Nava, a lab in Antarctica unintentionally opened the first rift to the Navic archipelago. This realm is a shadow of our reality. It is a realm full of concentrated Nava energy, powerful dangers, and extraordinary wonder.

When the first rift was opened, highly pure concentrated Nava exploded outwards, and danced across the world before the rift became unstable and collapsed. The remains of the lab and its surroundings were buried under hundreds of feet of dense Nava crystals and slag.

Unbeknownst to humanity, when this rift was opened, it became a beacon that attracted these powerful beings. Beings which then forced the rift open once more and subsequently invaded Earth. Humanities greatest weapons did more damage to themselves then to these beings, as atomic weapons detonated and didn't phase the enemy, nukes were torn apart by energies unseen, militaries squashed in a blink of an eye. As the dust settled, as cities burned, and mountains were flattened, the beings left through the rift, leaving humanity to smolder.

From these ashes, we put new theories to the test, rebuilt our society, pushed for greater heights, and discovered how to harness Nava for ourselves. However, we did not forget the unjust and wanton destruction those powerful beings brought to us.

Today, 300 years later, humanity has spread to the stars, bringing their culture, ideas, technologies, and knowledge across a large swath of the Orion's Arm. It was discovered long ago, that Nava was found in higher concentration with heavier elements, which could be mapped to the gravitational influence of celestial bodies. However, any attempts to open a rift were met with a similar fate as the first. Rifts also started forming on their own in regions with unstable Nava Levels due to the impact of the first rift. Whenever a rift opened, natural or not, powerful beings, commonly referred to as immortals, seemingly immune to any weapon humanity could field, exited and annihilated the rift, the surrounding area on a planet and in space, and eliminating all weaponry near the gate.

People die twice, the first when they are buried, and when they are forgotten.

Uglan Kung didn't truly understand this notion until they were of age to witness their first ceremony of remembrance in person. The ceremony, preformed every year for the past 300 years of the Human Collective to remember those who are slaughtered by Immortals, closing a rift.

A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

The ceremony took place over 42 days in the heart of New Terra, the capital of the expansive Human Collective located on Earth, the home of Humanity. Towering skyscrapers adorned with advanced technologies stood as a testament to the resilience of humanity after the first devastating Immortal invasion centuries ago. The cityscape stretched as far as the eye could see, a testament to the progress made since those dark days. Scars of struggles past could still be seen on many buildings, maintained and restored as a reminder of the devastation.

Uglan Kung stood among a sea of people in the central plaza, their eyes fixed on the enormous holographic display hovering above. The hologram depicted the faces of those who had perished in the countless clashes with the Immortals. As the names and images flashed across the display, a somber silence enveloped the crowd. Each face represented a story of bravery, sacrifice, and loss. Some were soldiers who fought valiantly against the otherworldly invaders, while others were civilians caught in the crossfire.

Uglan, as with everyone else present, felt a profound sense of gratitude and responsibility. The sacrifices of those who faced the Immortals head-on were not in vain. The knowledge gained from their struggles had propelled humanity to new heights, enabling them to harness the power of Nava for their own survival.

As the holographic display reached its conclusion, a hushed murmur spread through the crowd. Uglan's gaze turned to the massive structure in the center of the plaza—a monument forged from the rare some of the densist Nava Crystals and Nava infused materials. It stood as a symbol of remembrance, a colossal sculpture depicting figures locked in eternal struggle against an unseen force.

The ceremony continued with a procession of leaders and dignitaries laying wreaths at the base of the monument. Uglan couldn't help but reflect on the progress humanity had made since that fateful day when the Immortals first invaded. The once-scattered and shattered remnants of civilization had coalesced into a united front, determined to defend their existence against the enigmatic beings.

In the aftermath of the invasion, scientists, engineers, and strategists worked tirelessly to understand the nature of Nava and devise methods to harness its power. The Human Collective had established colonies on distant planets, constructed massive space stations, and even formed alliances with other intelligent species encountered during their interstellar travels. Yet, the looming threat of the Immortals persisted. Rifts continued to open sporadically, and the immortal beings emerged, unleashing destruction wherever they went.

The crowd stood in silence, heads bowed in respect for the fallen. Uglan felt a surge of determination, a commitment to carry the torch of resilience forward. The struggle against the Immortals was far from over, but with each passing year, humanity grew stronger, more resilient, and more united.

As the ceremony concluded, Uglan couldn't help but glance at the monument one last time. The figures frozen in perpetual conflict seemed to radiate a silent message—a reminder that the struggle against the Immortals was not just a battle for survival but a testament to the indomitable spirit of humanity.
