To be honest, I never consider myself as quirky in any shape or form. If anything, I'm as eccentric as any other normal guy growing up - wishing to have abs, playing video games, and wanting a girlfriend. The standard package of any high school student.
But now, I'm not so sure if I can accomplish any of that anymore.
“We need to talk John.”
I felt my eyes twitch as I glance over at the sudden appearance of him. A rather average looking face, and lean muscles could be seen under the school uniform. Memories of his state a few days ago come to the forefront of my mind. Must have some kinda fast healing ability or something. My gaze then quickly flicker to meet his black eyes with my own, until switching towards the clock. Dammit, there goes my peaceful afternoon. There's about thirty minutes until the episode starts...
“You know what, fine Saito,” I said with a sigh, while rolling my shoulders. “But let's try to make it quick, there’s a new episode coming out for PSP Daily Life. It's the season finale ya know.”
He made no comment, but I felt like his eyes twitch at that little at my tidbit. Well, it's not like he would care about some silly comedy anime. This guy’s life is literally an anime - a battle one, if three days ago were any indication. Shouldering my bag, I incline my head towards him as he nod in response.
“You’re kinda hard to catch, you know that?” Saito said as we begun walking through the hall. “It’s like your blending in with the background. I’m kinda envious of that.”
I felt my eye twitch again as my body bristle. That’s kinda rude to tell someone. Also, why are you envious? My gaze move to his back, watching as golden sparks flicker off of him. It as if he’s a raging fire - one that can barely restrain its own heat. His main character aura is like a beacon of light to be remember for the ages. That seems way more preferable than being forgotten.
“You're kinda annoying, you know that?” I said with a slight frown. “Also, I did avoid going to school for the past three days.”
If you encounter this narrative on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
Yeah, all just to avoid this meeting. I would have stay for the whole week, but my parents got worry about my grades and kick me out. Though, worry is an understatement...
“Pfft, you are right on that.”
Conversation soon fell off after that, and silence became our third companion as we went up the stairs. I mean, we were practically strangers to each other. Though, I do understand the reason in why he would want to meet me privately. If this were an anime show, he would attempt to keep me quiet. Maybe I somehow develop a role as a strong supportive male friend that helps with the slice-of-life. Actually, I would prefer being use as an exposition tool to help introduce the setting.
In the end, we reach the roof-top.
How typical.
“I need your help,” Saito said without hesitation, a hint of the main character charisma kicking-in. “You have special ability. A strong one if I what I sense from you is right.”
I balk at that. A strong ability? Please, all these useless eyes of mine can do is see the aura of people. I would know. After all, the homeless guy who gift me these eyes told me that's all it could do.
...Actually, that sounds pretty suspicious on its own.
Well, not like he needs to know that.
“I'm sure you're mistake Saito,” I said while clasping a hand onto his shoulder, an easy-going smile working its way on my face. “Look, I won't tell anyone about what happen. I know how this goes. You can trust me.”
Best to cut straight to the point and end this. We waste enough time already. PSP Daily Life could be starting anytime soon now!
Saito blink and tilt his head to the side. His brows put together as he said, “No. I'm sure you are the one mistaken John. In fact, it's pretty incredible to see how much power is brimming out of your eyes. You could become a M-!”
“Nope! Lets stop right here,” I said while covering his mouth. “Look man, I want nothing to do with that world. That life ain't for me. You see, I'm a pacifist! A pacifist, I tell you."
A hint of understanding shone through his eyes. Which only cause my eye to twitch once again. I can't help but feel like a big misunderstanding just took place. This useless bastard is really about to give me a heart attack! Doesn't he understand I want nothing to do with his action-pack life?
Keep me in the slice-of-life genre, please!
Boom!
Dammit, I'm really gonna find that homeless guy and beat him up. These eyes have led me to nothing but trouble!
