The birth or death of a god is the most impactful single event that a world can experience.  Strangely enough, it always goes unnoticed by the inhabitants of that world.  Due to the near eternal life spans that divinities possess, mortals simply believe that the gods take millennia long periods of rest, only to emerge when the world needs to be protected from a cataclysmic event.  This, of course, is merely speculation brought about by the study of long destroyed civilizations, most of which have very contradictory beliefs on the actions of their god.  Their contradicting beliefs are of no surprise to scholars as it is common knowledge that every time a god reemerges from its slumber it favors a different race.  This favor has always led to great prosperity for the race, but also built resentment.  This resentment has caused a large number of races to be enslaved, or even hunted to extinction.  A few of the most famous examples of this are the great builders that controlled the mountains to the north, the lizardkin that thrived in the harsh deserts to the south, and the long lived nature worshipers that found safety and prosperity in the great forest expanse to the east.
