The pilot

The world faded slowly for Toto. The harsh screech of tires, the blinding headlights, and the sudden pain that tore through his chest became distant memories as darkness claimed him. Yet, in that abyss, a peculiar warmth embraced him. It wasn’t the eternal stillness he’d imagined death would bring, but something different—almost alive.

When Toto opened his eyes, he wasn’t greeted by the smoky streets of the city he’d known, nor the familiar noise of bustling life. Instead, an overwhelming brightness filled his vision. He tried to move, but his body felt foreign, weak, and unresponsive. His mind raced. Where am I? What happened?

A woman’s gentle laughter filled the air. “Look at him, so full of life already,” she said, her voice soft and melodic.

Toto’s vision adjusted, revealing a stunning woman with golden hair cascading down her shoulders. Her eyes, a striking shade of emerald, gazed down at him with a tenderness he had never experienced before. Beside her stood a man, tall and imposing, with jet-black hair and piercing gray eyes. He held a look of pride and awe as he stared at Toto.

“Rex,” the man said firmly, his deep voice reverberating in the room. “Our firstborn son.”

Toto’s heart stopped. Rex? Son? What was going on? He tried to speak, but the only sound that came out was a feeble cry. His tiny limbs flailed as realization dawned on him. He wasn’t in his own body anymore.

Memories began to flood back. The car crash. The pain. Death. And now... this? Reincarnation? It sounded like something out of one of the fantasy novels he used to read in the orphanage.

The woman—his mother, he realized with a jolt—gently lifted him into her arms. “Welcome to the world, Rex Peverell,” she whispered, placing a soft kiss on his forehead. Her warmth was overwhelming, and for a moment, Toto—no, Rex—allowed himself to bask in it. It was a feeling he hadn’t known in his past life.

The man—his father—stepped closer, his large hand resting on Rex’s head. “You are the future of the Peverell family,” he said with a hint of pride. “The heir to our legacy. Strong and wise, like the Peverells before you.”

Rex’s mind reeled. He had been an ordinary orphan in his previous life, struggling to find his place in a world that barely noticed him. And now he was the firstborn son of a duke, destined for power and privilege.

As the days passed, Rex began to piece together his new reality. The Peverells were one of the most powerful noble families in the kingdom, known for their influence and martial prowess. The estate was massive, filled with servants, guards, and endless corridors. And though he was a newborn, his mind remained intact, carrying the wisdom and experiences of his twenty-two years.

But with this new life came questions. Why had he been reincarnated? Was it a gift, a second chance to live the life he’d always dreamed of? Or was there a greater purpose behind it all?

As Rex gazed out from the comfort of his ornate crib, the stars beyond the grand windows seemed to whisper promises of adventure, danger, and destiny. Whatever lay ahead, one thing was certain: this life would be nothing like the one he had left behind.
