In a cramped, dark apartment, a man sat in a chair, yawning as he stared at a computer screen. Closing his eyes, he began to recite the words that appeared on the screen perfectly.
"The world will soon be overrun with Monsters, the cemeteries empty of bodies, and the water dried up. It is the End of Days. But a Saviour will appear, ready to do whatever is necessary in order to stop the world from ending. Who is the Saviour?" He smiled to himself, opening his eyes as he saw the Character Select Screen for the ten thousandth time.
First up was Janus Thunderbolt, Son of the God Zeus. As one could guess, he has an affinity for lightning magic, being better in open areas surrounded by enemies. Unfortunately, he was made to take after his father quite a bit. His endings always ended up with him cheating on whoever the heroine came to be. If the heroine was the Princess, he was killed for Treason.
Next up was Leia Frost, Daughter of the Ice Fairy Elsa. She, too, had the obvious affinity for ice, being wonderful at CC. She, however, was so cold that she froze almost everyone she touched, including the King, after she saved the world. Thus, she was executed for Treason.
The last MC in End of Days was Lily Silver, a genius swords master. She did massive damage, but was overrun by numbers easily. So, obviously, she was married off to some random guy in a different kingdom, never to touch a sword again.
All of them were raised as siblings by a Baker in the countryside named Dio Baker, on top of Dio's son, Greg.
He clicked off the selection screen, intending to log off for the day. However, a message popped up.
You are choosing none of these characters. Are you sure about this?
He paused, as this was the first time he had seen this message. Still, he clicked yes.
Instantly, his PC shut off, turning the room completely dark. "What the hell?" the man complained, grabbing the screen, shaking it. Nothing happened, even though he tried rebooting his PC. Finally, he gave it a soft kick, careful to not damage it, before moving into his bed. He was snoring only a few minutes later.
Hours later, while the Sun was rising, the computer finally turned on. It contained the simple message, Most compatible character found. Enjoy the End of Days!
"Greg! Get up!" yelled a voice the man had never heard before. He jumped, his mind working overtime as he noticed how bright it was. He always had his shutters down. In fact, what was with this room? It was different, completely different. Where was his PC, his games, his consoles, his-
It was an immediate reaction when he saw his hands. Thinner, full of calluses, and tanned. He felt his stomach, noticing how much thinner it was. This was not his body. He tried pinching himself, feeling the pain clear as day.
The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.
"Greg! Don't make me enter!" said the same voice, immediately followed by a pounding on his door.
Not knowing what else to do, he walked over to the door, timidly opening it. "Hello?" he said, then froze in shock. He recognized the girl facing him instantly, with her pale as snow skin and dark hair.
"What are you doing, not even dressed at this time?" she said, glaring at him. "And Dio wants you at the furnace in five. Come on, hurry up! He's not going to wait forever!" Slamming the door shut, her footsteps echoed away from the hall.
He looked down, only now noticing that he really wasn't dressed. That wasn't the issue, however. "That was Leia, wasn't it?" he muttered in shock. Even his voice was different, sounding far younger.
A pop-up appeared, showing a blue window that said, Yes, it was.
"This is really End of Days?" The question seemed stupid, even to him.
Yes, it is.
"Then, I must be Janus, right?" The silence told him more than he'd like. "I'm Greg, aren't I?"
Yes, you are.
"Why am I Greg?" he cried, his voice choking a little.
Greg Baker was the most compatible character for you.
"I'll just go back to sleep, thank you very much~ AGH!" Suddenly, a terrible shock went through his body.
No, you won't. You will stop the end of the world, or die. And you will keep your identity a secret, if you do not wish to be burned alive.
"But I don't know anything about Greg!" he complained.
You now know everything about Greg.
He found that was true, as memories came flooding into his head, giving him a headache. He blacked out for only a moment, but he was now dressed, walking through the small building the Baker's called home, with barely any input from him.
He found himself opening a door, knowing exactly who was behind it. A burly man stood, watching over a furnace as it started heating up, making sure it was fueled for the day. He looked to the door, his face blossoming with happiness.
"Ah, son, you're finally here," he greeted, beckoning for him to come closer. "I was worried."
"Don't be, father," he responded, the words feeling foreign in his mouth. he moved closer, barely noticing the heat that blasted him nonstop.
Dio nodded, turning his head back to the furnace. "Is this hot enough? Or does it need to be hotter?"
"Just a bit more, or the bread will be undercooked," he answered immediately. It felt like he had been doing this for years, which was more accurate than he wanted to believe.
"Correct. Now, heat it."
He did so, the motions feeling as natural as breathing, his focus sharpening. He smiled as he did something familiar, then frowned immediately. It shouldn't have been familiar.
"Alright," Dio called, placing a hand on his shoulder. "That's good enough. Take an hour off."
"Got it."
He went back to his room, falling onto the bed. While staring at the ceiling, he asked, "Who am I?"
In response, the window popped up, answering, I cannot answer that question.
"Figures. So, why am I here?"
To save the world, of course.
He waited for more information, though none appeared. Finally, he asked, "Isn't that the job of the main characters?"
Yes, but they will never be ready for it. Unless you push them.
"I'm not going to like what's next, am I?" He sighed, sitting upwards.
You must blame the death of someone close to them on a Monster. This must happen before the Academy closes admission, or the world will be doomed to fall. You have five months.
