“First Life” arc: Chapter one: the beginning. (Edited)

‘Well, that was unexpected, a heart attack at the age of 24 just because i laughed at the jester too hard at a medieval fair and got scared when i started choking on some popcorn that i was eating, (it got unstuck from my throat due to my coughing it out a minute or two after it got stuck but i was still scared) anyway my friends noticed my concern when I started to see the signs that i see in those who are going into cardiac arrest that in that moment i started to have. On the way to the hospital I died, how do I know? I saw it through my spectral eyes, and I had an easy time remembering it too; you’d be surprised how much you remember when you see your life pass before your eyes.

So I started drifting, wondering when the light at the end of a tunnel would appear, when suddenly I was whisked off to a weird spiritual plane in a manner I could only call being soul-snatched and there I met the being I was soul-snatched by, a… Godly Girl Scout what the heck.’

After i had finished with my internal monologue the Girl Scout said, in an exasperated tone, “Are you done with your mental monologue?”

‘Yeah i am done, so… why am i here?’ i mentally asked the odd girl that even though it was a child’s voice it had better pronunciation than a child at the age of around either eight or nine would ever have.

“Basically i grabbed your soul so i can earn my fantasy badge, due to the fact that every goddesses or gods universe basically generates a different fantasy world we have to use our first world as a base not to mention the souls we recycle; as to what we do with the second, fantasy, world; some shelve it and freeze it in time, some destroy it, some play with it, for a bit then erase it.” the girl scout listed apatheticly.

‘What about merging them together? Or turning it into a mysterious video game that appears out of the blue, there are a lot of options other than those.’ i said because i did not like the options.

“Well those are possibilities,” she said, considering what i said, “but we usually save that for the actual fantasy world we make.”

‘What?’ i said, confused.

“We generally send the parts of our prototype that we enjoy to the real fantasy world as for what we do with said fantasy world is really up to us.” she said seemingly ignoring what i said; but then continued “We send the prototypes to scout worlds first and what we then see was how they work and see what they do so some of us who like certain parts of the fantasy to the next world, the actual fantasy world that we make."

'Okay, so when am i going to go to the-' I said as my consciousness faded and i woke up later in a different place and got a shock when i heard a different voice in my head.

Starting first fantasy life, good luck

‘First life?’ i thought in slight confusion and then zonked out again once i woke up again i looked around and heard a voice in my head.

You have been “reborn” as a random young creature, you have been given a leveling and evolution system. In 7 days exactly after this message, hunters will be coming for you in waves (1/day); your duty is to survive as long as you can. If you look around you you will notice a series of chests.

When i heard the message say chests i was confused heavily and mentally said ‘chests?’ and once i looked around and saw the chests.

The chest on the farthest left holds an related artifact (starter artifacts cannot be dropped on death, no matter if it is equipped or unequipped), the chest on the middle left holds a random bloodline (ranges from: common - immortal, related - extremely unrelated;), the middle chest holds a number of verified quality affinity-crystals of a random type (the name is self explanatory, the number and quality can vary from: 1 extremely weak quality - 25 insanely strong quality), the chest on the middle right holds a random semi/active skill (all starter skills cannot be taken from the original recipient) (related - extremely unrelated, ranges from Basic 001 - Heroic 100), the chest on the far right holds a semi/passive skill (related - extremely unrelated, ranges in power from Basic 001 - Heroic 100). These five chests are yours to use whenever you feel like it, however it should be noted that after the seven days should you not hide them the hunters who are trying to end your life will take them, and every other chest hidden in the woods that you can also collect should you find them, away from you so you can’t collect the chest’s benefits for yourself.

The hunters will arrive in increasingly difficult waves starting from easy and increasing in difficulty to the point in which you cannot handle it anymore in which case you will “fail”. When a wave starts you will be transported to a battle-space if or when you win all the damage you accumulated will be erased and not carry over to the next round as well as getting you out of the battle-space. The longer you survive, the better your score and; should you do well enough you may get bonuses/boons in the true next round.

Occasionally you may run into other players who may be at different stages; killing them increases your level but to discourage this each time you kill a certain player they can give a curse to the killer after being fully killed twice unless they started it as well as having a lower exp amount given to the killer, however this is not the only way to increase your level; you may also encounter other, normal, monsters/animals who are not players at all, feel free to kill them and do whatever you wish to them however it should be noted that the player who killed the monster/animal will drop items; alternatively you can kill the hunters for exp as well. You can also increase an item's level with an item level stone. You can ask a single question of the system if you procure a question stone. To level up your skills you have to use them or understand them better in some way, shape, or form. To view your stats say aloud “status”. To communicate with other players you just say what you wish to say for you are speaking the language of beasts and all players, regardless of your species, will understand you. You access your inventory, mentally say ‘inventory’ and it will pop-up.

Starting in 5…

‘So that is all the instructions i will be getting huh’ I thought, I was practicing moving in my new quadrupedal form and i found to my surprise i already was able to move about in my little clearing like it was a natural part of my body, even my tail was moving about how i wished it to be.

4…

I started considering what i should get first, at last i decided after two numbers on the countdown, (the choice was fairly obvious after all).

3…2…

I slowly tensed up like I was about to pounce, or readying for a dash.

1… BEGIN!

I dashed to the chests and opened them (A/N: they immediately get used when he opens them and if it’s an Item it immediately goes to the inventory): bloodline, affinity crystal, semi/passive ability, active ability, and then the artifact chest.

I decided to look at my status so i was about to say status to see what i got from the chests when i got a notice from the system

Congratulations, you have opened: all of the starter chests, these beginner chests (as well as the chests, pots, bag, etc within a 5 km radius of your current position) will restock per three days, however it should be noted these containers actually restock with random items of random rarity in random amounts and random quality every three days; should you decide to put them into your inventory however, they will not restock as time is paused in there nor will the countdown on the restock continue.

Oh… what?! They restock? That is so cool, but i guess it makes sense, any way i started looking around the clearing, looking for something out of place (A/N: i mean like blatantly out of place), and noticed a fern that was clearly plastic and i moved it and was not disappointed, it was a pot that had a unique lid, before i opened it i said “Status,” because i would really like to know what would change before it changed… and immediately got overwhelmed with a flood of information.

Items equipped: 0 ()

Skills: Bite; (Basic, Upgradable, Evolvable,), Scratch; (Basic, Upgradable, Evolvable,), Dash; (Basic, Upgradable, Evolvable,), *NEW* Feature Taker; (rare), *NEW* Storing fluff; (very rare, Evolvable, related), *NEW* Special Constitution; (semi-rare, Upgradable), Magic animal core; (Rare,), Mana Manipulation; (semi-uncommon, Evolvable, Upgradable,), Constellation usage; (common, racial, Upgradable,), Aurora Traveling (common, racial, Upgradable, Evolvable), Dreams come to Life; (unique, racial lineage related, Upgradable), Fluffy Springy Fur (racial, common), Stary Coat; (Basic, racial, Upgradable), *NEW* Reflective Tough Coating (uncommon, bloodline, Upgradable, Evolvable, extremely unrelated), Swiper; (Basic, racial, Evolvable, Upgradable).

Okay… I am not sure how I feel about being called stupid yet adorable by the system. After I shook my head trying to get rid of the sensory overload, I was curious to see if I could see the description of the skills and I checked Feature Taker; to see if I could get a definition from it. And here is what I got from the system.

*NEW* Feature Taker (semi-passive): this ability allows the user to take features, bloodlines, and skills by either seeing the skills/features or eating the features and blood from the bloodlines to gain said Features, Skills, or Bloodlines, however you have to actively seek for said Skills, Features or Bloodlines.

Oh so I can see what the description says. I decided to look at the other ‘new’ skills.

*NEW* Storing Fluff (semi-active, Evolvable,): this ability is a adaptation of the Swallow ability to suit the user’s species this ability allows the user to store items/other beings within oneself, unlike the swallow ability the user activates this ability is used by rubbing against the object that the user wishes to use it on. Unlike the system’s inventory, however, time is not paused inside.

*NEW* Special Constitution (Passive, semi-rare, Upgradable): a skill that denotes lineages that have become stronger and had their body become tougher in one regard or another in this instance this ability means: the user’s hide has become 20% tougher due to the bloodline. Also this due to the connection this ability has with light elements it will purge away any drawbacks the newest bloodline brings)

* To upgrade it, gain another bloodline. Benefits: whatever that bloodline has to offer provided that it helps the user.

Dreams come to life Lvl:1 (semi-passive, unique, racial lineage related, Upgradable): this ability is used when the user goes to sleep (despite anti-dream training) or mentally chooses it, dreams come out in a thirty foot (~9.144 m) radius, like a doorway to the dreamworld other creatures best be wary about being inside that radius; many monsters, animals, materials/items and plants have been spawned from this ability, every non/sentient being spawned from this ability (provided it isn’t a material, weapons count as living) feels a strong compulsion to protect the user, upon the user waking up most of the dream creatures go back to the dream world, those that do not vanish are mostly plants but if it is an animal or monster it will defend the user to its final breath and will do whatever it can, even die for the user which is not to say that the plants that were spawned would not do the same (should they remain) it will do whatever it can to protect the user as well but unless the plant can move from the place it first grew in the real world it wouldn’t be able to follow the user to the battle box to combat the hunters.

The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.

* Current chance of dream entities remaining after waking up: 30% (10% being the original number, this is natural for the foxes of your exact related bloodline, it will automatically revert to the original number after your first dream).

* Costs to use this ability: 0 Mana 0 Stamina (when using this ability it actually increases Stamina, and Mana Regen, but the user is immobile during this skill due to being asleep)

* To upgrade it you have to complete the following criteria: have your first dream and have at least one of the dream’s inhabitants remain in the real world (not including materials). Benefits gained from fulfilling the criteria: doubled radius, increased dream activity, doubled amplitude (increased power, and amount of dream entities amount) (A/N: amplitude also affects the chance of the entities spawned by this skill and is the only thing that increases it at all), 5% increase to the chance that one of the dream creations shall remain in the world.

Well thats all of them, (or at least the ones that i cannot figure out on my own)

Constellation usage (common, racial, Evolvable, Upgradable): this ability is one of the signature abilities of the Night-sky fox, using this ability has its own benefits and drawbacks. Drawbacks: you have to find the constellations to utilize them, fighting with a constellation weapon that breaks will leave you unable to summon it again within three days time, the lower your affinity for constellation mana; the weaker the constellation weapon, if you use a constellation it will use up a number of stars as well as mana, when using a constellation you cannot recall it till the process of whatever that constellation is doing ends. Benefits: when a constellation is found by the user and the user notices it, it immediately gets added to this ability, the better your understanding or idea of said constellation’s usage, the more constellations you have the stronger you get, the more constellations you have the stronger all your current skills get upgraded as well as the constellations.

* To upgrade you have to: discover one new constellation, Benefits: all skills (including this one) are upgraded by 1-5 level(s) (based on rarity of said new constellation), enough EXP to level up 1-5 Level(s), Strengthening of the user’s bloodline by 10%-25% (depending on the rarity of said constellation and rarity of (if all main bloodline(s); Guiding Star Night-sky Fox, Dazzling Dreaming Draco Night-sky Fox bloodline, reaches 100 percent it will start filling any other bloodlines that the user has) (it will always go from rarest to least rare)

* Current constellation amount: 5 (Guiding star, Draco, Dagger, Bow, Axe). Uses:

* Guiding star (3/day): allows the user uses this to find objects or other constellations, the star shines brightly and makes the things you're looking for glow weakly in addition to having said object be illuminated by a translucent pillar, so that you, and only you can see the glow and pillar, unless it’s at night in which case anyone with eyes to see the light can see it. When using it, it will use up a number of “stars” on your coat, of which you now have very few. Only enough for three usages of this part of the skill without using any other part.

* Current Max AOE: 5 km

* Star cost: 13 Mana cost: 5

* Draco (2/day): allows the user to fly (can also use the other, normal, abilities), also grants 10 times: strength, agility, dexterity and defence/Mdefence, excellent for intimidation and can be used for a trump card in tough situations, can also fire laser beams that blow up on contact, when dreaming (or falling unconscious) while using this constellation, the dream currently has a 99% chance to become a double dream (meaning that both the “dragon” and the fox mind seemingly use the Dreams come to Life ability at the same time, however, the dragon mind’s max radius for this skill is always the ancestor who has the largest radius and amplitude, however, upon the user surpassing this radius and amplitude it will instead stay and increase ), there is a 1% chance of it becoming a True Training Dream Once the user uses this ability there are only a few ways to get rid of it; 1: get zonked out from the constant mana drainage, 2: get “killed,” 3: reach an “understanding” of this form (this will also upgrade this particular constellation greatly), 4: get blown-up point blank by your/someone-else’s explosions 5: and the most rare; force a shutdown of this ability, to do this actually gives EXP as well as behaves in much the same way that gaining new constellations boosts your strength and upgrades all your skills (and all their effects) by one level.

*   Ancestor’s dream radius: 156 ft (~47.5488 m). Ancestor’s dream amplitude: 590 ft (~179.832 m) if double dream is activated within the overlapping area amplitude for both are doubled.

*   If using Dreams come to life while using this constellation Mana Regen is multiplied by 5

*   True Training Dreams: a extremely rare kind of dream for any Dreaming Draco Night-sky Fox, it allows any member who achieves this kind of dream to constantly and rapidly increase their radius and amplitude, once a member of the Dreaming Draco Night-sky Fox has achieved this dream that is often regarded as a myth it becomes a constant thing during all dreams thereafter, due to the user’s species being the Dazzling Dreaming Draco Night-sky Fox (the first kind Dreaming Draco Night-sky Fox to achieve this kind of dream) it has increased the chance of a True Training Dream from .000000000000000001% to 1%. It should be noted that when a True Training Dream happens (should the Draco constellation be use) the overlapping area amplitude is still in in effect

* Star cost: 20, Mana cost: 10 per second.

* Dagger (10/day): this constellation weapon is the normal one used for sneak attacks and it’s abilities reflect it: doubled damage if it attacks from behind, however it should be noted however it will also hold its own in normal combat. It will get upgraded when a new constellation is added, low consumption of mana and the mana cost shall not increase when it evolves. Like all constellation weapons the user can mentally move and manipulate it with a telekinetic like mental manipulation (A/N: imagine butterfly knife tricks but: the knife is floating, it is made of stars with mana making the knife’s blade).

* Star cost: four. Mana cost 1 mana per minute.

* Bow (6/day): this constellation weapon is the normal one for ranged piercing attacks and it’s abilities reflect it: ignores 30% of a target’s defence, It will get upgraded when a new constellation is added, low consumption of mana and the mana cost shall not increase until it evolves up to level 4. Like all constellation weapons the user can mentally move and manipulate it. To use it draw the string back and an arrow shall manifest on the bow.

* Star cost: 6 Mana cost: 4 Mana per Minute

* Axe (7/day): this constellation weapon is the normal one for breaking down objects and it’s abilities reflect it: plus 35% damage to structures. It will get upgraded when a new constellation is added, low consumption of mana and the mana cost shall not increase until it evolves up to level 5. Like all constellation weapons the user can mentally move and manipulate it.

Swiper: this ability allows the user to take items from others and do it unnoticed, this ability at level 3 gains the ability to take items from a player’s inventory (the system would like to inform the user that having it at that level would change nothing for the system's guarantee that the beginner artifacts cannot be stolen.

After i had read that i went and opened the pot and looked at my inventory… and realized that i had not even looked at my starter artifact so i looked at it and got this from the system:

Artifact info:

Artifact: Daydream Dream Catcher (necklace) (Unique Legendary, extremely related, Evolvable, Upgradable): an artifact of the Dreaming Draco Night-sky clan, long lost to time, this artifact was once wielded by the matriarch of the clan who had achieved something that no other Dreaming Draco Night-sky Fox before her had figured out; how to do a True Training Dream.

Effects:

+25 int

+30 Mdef/def

+300 Mana/Health

Abilities:

Dreamy miss: a passive ability when wearing this necklace there is a 30% chance, when in battle, that the being who combats the one who equips this necklace (being the user) will miss their attack.

Constellation boost (Passive) (A/N: this ability has two parts): Boosts all constellations power by 30%, when the user gains a new constellation he has all the user’s skills level up by 3-15 levels and the user gains enough Exp to level up 2 times so long as the user is wearing it (the system deems it wise to tell the user that any levels gained by the secondary effect will not be removed if the necklace).

Constellation Reverberation: this ability is activated when the user gains a new constellation or gets an evolution or Upgrade there is a 25% chance that a Reverberation will happen. When a Reverberation happens, a copy of the constellation that comes into existence is absorbed rapidly mutates and gets upgraded (common to rare, uncommon to epic, rare to mythic, anything above rare cannot currently get upgraded) then the user “gains” the new constellation and all of the benefits that getting a new constellation gets added on too.

Infinite endurance: this ability makes the artifact be unable to remove unwillingly and impossible to damage as long as it is worn (it should be noted that some of the effects of the original are removed, rare seeming to be common.

True Training Dream boosting: this ability as the name implies boosts the effect of a True dream and somewhat enhances the chance of a True Training Dream happening,

* Chances of a True Training Dream: 1% → ~13%.

* True Training Dream expansion rate Boost: 300% → 750%

Daydream: a semi-active ability and this necklace’s special ability; when this ability is activated the user automatically uses the ability: Dreams come to Life, but has the negative of being unable to move during, removed permanently (whether it is from being awake or gaining a certain skill) (it should be noted however, that the mana and stamina regeneration bonus is not added when awake).

That is sooo cool. I immediately clicked the icon that had come up when I had checked the information that said EQUIP and felt something manifest around my neck, then I looked back at my inventory and saw a scroll, I tapped it and got this:

Treasure Map (rare):

Details

...Welp, i know what I’m doing after i get all the pots, packs, chests, containers, etc.

I went back to where i first got the message of restocking containers and used the Guiding Star Constellation I then went wandering around following the ribbons of light but first with the closest one which was… right where i started at (A/N: the place where he first heard the system’s voice) what the heck.

I dug right where I started and did it as quickly as I could and after, like five minutes I found a pot. I then opened it and put it in my fur and looked around for the ribbons and saw a huge amount of ribbons in one particular direction and thus ran in that direction once i got there i stared and looked around, a chest was just standing there and many pots and the ribbons were also going into the ground i immediately started to get the ones that are glowing, i took all of them one by one and then putting them into my coat and then dug to reach the other ones one was a odd chest that had a purple glow that was beneath a pot was in addition to the glow that is normal for my skill, but like the rest I opened it and then rubbed it into my fur and went after all the ribbons i looked at what was left, i hadn’t touched them in fact I did my best to not even touch them, i then looked for other ribbons and tracked them down and got them, some were easier to get some were much more difficult, (A/N: Physically at least). And so i went back to the clearing and found where i found the pot and opened my inventory, and looked at my loot;

Two Question mark stones which I’m guessing are the Question Stones that the system told me about, seventy-five gems (just normal ones), two gems with either what looks like a hammer and anvil and an up arrow engraved on the anvil and three fifty seven gold pieces, a… fruit that looks like a cross between grapes and a banana that has alternating green and purple stripes, seven caltrops, two health potions (minor), one mana potion (minor), a “critter container”, a… rubber band? Eh I’ll check it later, a… plushie with a Q in the lower left corner; probably a quest item, five blue flowers, a can of worms; (you think i am kidding but I’m being dead serious), a sack of marbles with the caption “you lost these?”; so now the system is calling me crazy (great, just great,), an egg with a question mark with the caption saying “you can hear a rustling coming from within” if I wasn’t an animal already i would suspect that it was a companion pet... wait can i have one? Eh; questions for later, an earring; (probably another accessory) and then immediately got confused, there was like twenty-two identical scrolls.

i manually clicked on each of them some were just black scrolls about eleven of them to be exact, three were spell scrolls that contain spells (the single use variety) about five of them were of constellations “constellation scrolls” as the system calls them, one was a map of good quality which just showed the surrounding area, an information scroll of all the beasts and some cities, and finally the treasure map i clicked the details button and had the contents downloaded into my mind by pressing the details button.

Required level: 5

1: twenty five seconds walk in the direction of the setting sun

2: turn left at the pitted boulder and walk for 35 seconds.

3: turn right at the weeping oak and walk for twelve seconds in the direction of the setting sun.

4: climb over the creeping crevice and walk towards and through the spider forest

5: at the ball of never melt ice at the forest’s heart turn right and walk for fifty seconds

6: at the spider nest walk right through (literally or over it should the user choose) and walk for an additional 125 seconds.

7: at the edge of the spider forest (cliff) turn left again and walk into the cave of the hive. And keep walking once you get to the heart of the hive, walk around the dais that serves as the Queen’s throne and walk out the tunnel on the other side.

8: when you have exited the cave look for the third tree on the left, then dig at the roots that make the X.

Well so that is what the system says, it appears that I have to be a certain level to do it. I unhesitatingly took out the constellation scrolls (all of them) and I opened the first one… only to realize that I have no clue how to get the constellation on the paper registered by the system as having gained a new Constellation. Then I remembered that my Guiding Star Constellation is still up and running. I then called it to me and had it focus on the scroll then I was surprised the scroll was startled by what happened next. The scroll turned black with the stars in the constellation shining like normal stars in the night sky. As I looked after a few seconds I saw that the stars were connecting with a ribbon like light (A/N: think Aurora Borialis or Aurora Australis but unmoving like a rope pulled taut). And once all the stars were connected it seemed to gain a familiar form, that of a beehive. (A/N: not the cartoony one one may see in cartoons but, a real one, have you seen them? Some of them look like paper wasp nests, (no seriously they really, really, do. Either that or i, at stupid o’clock, looked at a hornet hive and mistook it for a bee hive) and then the beehive and I merged; it was an invigorating feeling and i could feel myself getting stronger i opened my eyes I looked at the scroll and saw that the scroll was back to normal, none the worse for wear.

When i checked my stats i realized that I only went up by the absolute minimum… guess that it was a very common one-!? Why is- oh, well this is going to be interesting. I watch my necklace with some trepidation, what is going to happen? What am i going to get?! Ohhh I feel like a kid at Christmas waiting to open presents! I am kinda bummed that i won’t get most of the rare constellation’s bonuses but i am very excited to get a mythic constellation five seconds pass then ten and finally after 30 seconds the sensation stopped and a massive beehive about five times the size of the previous one. I blinked, had I felt the urge to jump in it, figuring that it was the way to absorb it, i tried to jumped into it… and fell on my face because apparently it was a lot farther away than i had thought, i directed the guiding star to pull it to me, and it did but just barely, it was fairly obvious that it was very far away from me so i started just boosted it… or tried apparently i couldn’t do that unless I re-summon it (or at least that is what the system told me) so i waited and waited.

-3 hours later-

...oh… it is a lot bigger than i expected i looked at the massive hive its size and power had increased a lot. Let us flash back a bit shall we? After i had waited an hour i told the guiding star to increase the pull once it could be sustained, and like three minutes after it shot out another strand… and another and another so i pulled out one of the question stones and asked the system what about? What I was doing wrong of course because it was starting to look like a gosh darn planet! You want to know what the system said? Well here it is:

Target is too far away, wait until you feel immense gravity then leap for it, upon doing so you and the constellation will merge and you will gain the constellation, the more you wait the stronger it’ll be

Current rarity: extremely common (on the line between basic and common but on common’s side), Current Gravity: 0Gs.

The system deems it necessary to tell the host that he needs to mentally reduce the size of the constellation periodically otherwise he will fail

That's right it will get much, much bigger but i decided to focus on the how of the shrinking i imagined forcing it to become more dense and low and behold it worked, it was now incredibly tiny and the size of a marble, and a bit more round, like i accidentally smashed it a bit or something… I hope I didn't damage it too much. As time went on I kept waiting and then shrinking it when it was getting too big, as it progressed i noticed a trend of the constellation growing slower and slower but also getting more intimidating and then i ordered the guiding star to stop pulling it in when it gets to the clearing and to focus on improving its size and power. And went back to waiting and shrinking it back down whenever it got too big. And end flashback so that brings us back to now so after the three hours i noticed it had also dragged in mana of different sorts kind of like a kind of energy gravity well that keeps getting more and more powerful each time i shrink it, and you think that it growing would diminish it’s power but no it just keeps it’s current suction of the mana until i shrink it again and so i, a normal person was getting concerned and suddenly it changed like “a switch was flipped”; kinda changed. i could feel a strong pull of gravity but not nearly enough so i waited more and kept shrinking it in shorter and shorter intervals and when i couldn’t really resist it anymore so i leapt into it.
